I think we reached a point where there are two ways to play grouphug. - The "original" one, is all about giving everyone a ton of resources. But what firstly did confuse me there are two "finishers" steal everything or more chaos! That doesnt feel grouphuggy. - and the other one is politics, but in nice. If i would create a new name it would be "singlehug". Means you give only ONE player a toy each time you play something, but you dont have to spoil the same player all the time. And in my personal opinion the second playstyle gets a lot deeper. I mean just take your time and think about what would happen if you give one player an extra turn. That sounds insane or? But also if you give someone so much power, what could you try to get back? And thats the idea behind it. that was just in case of the extremes you can go. If you wanted it more plain: How about a show and tell for one player? How about you and me draw 3 cards? If you do small things how much faster does that player reach the "Breakpoint"? (Where he outvalues) But thats just for the feeling. Now lets dive deeper. If you are able to push one player to a place he will be archenermie, but cant hold it as long as he needs your support. You can be the worst Nightmare for the hole table and play politics in a hole new dimention. At that point if the archenermie goes against you, he loose. If the other two go against you, they loose. Cause as soon someone does something against you you help the other side. At best in a way both sides still need to answer the other side and let you disbalance all things again. If there is no archenermie, you create one. If the archenermie falls you create a new one just to backstab him too. If your skilled and played right its posible to go yourself for a win (depending on your goal). In my case give everyone 100 extra turns and teferis protection for the style win ;) So yeah i played both and my god are those completely different. Thanks for reading and taking your time :)

And if you want, i would be happy to see your ways for a "singlehug". Would you go all in? Would you mix it with other types? In wich way would you try to push another player? 👀

@@CommandersBrew It's gonna be Questing Phelddagrif as a commander (in trusted playgroups, otherwise og Phelddagrif), because the secret lair art has it wearing a cape, and if that's not legendary, I don't know what is. Also, it has a vultron wincon then. Otherwise, I like your control pics like Narset's Reversal, using their ressources against them. I'd like having symetrical value, everyone drawing cards, and then breaking that symetry with wedding Ring, Propaganda, Soul Warden,drawing cards when they draw cards, maybe control their board with sacrifice prevention and/or leyline of Singularity, and accelerating myself. I don't know how controling/staxy I should get with things like the leyline, but it's a fun challenge, seeing if I can outrun people.
Thanks for the tips in the video, I will consider many of your ideas, I'm almost exclusively a hug deck player and it brings me such joy to give everyone what they want, however they are not aware I'm the one dictating who wins, with counter spells and gifts I can turn a king into a peasant, and if all else fails I have a couple wincons to just slip in and take the victory myself when everyone is too busy at each others throats.
I run all of them in Kennrith! Will breaker is probably the only mean card. Xyris and Nekusar on the board are chef's kiss. Win-cons are not necessary, the games are really fast, and even if I lose it feels like I win. I usually use it when we are drinking, testing, or inviting new players.
Don't forget mind grind as a wincon. UGB best wincon. They've been drawing and searching lands all game and now they lose if there is less than 20 in their decks.
I built my group hug deck in 2015 or 2016 and never really though about win conditions like milling or using opponents creatures against them. It's always been "Everyone get your lands!!!" Then Armageddon... and put my lands back on the field, then board wipe and twilight priest.
This video is great! Currently trying to put together a "friendly" deck with endless card draw but things like sheoldred, peer into the abyss, and iron maiden. Things to pull out a win in a single turn when people dont expect it! This video definetely has given me more ideas and how to play the politics of a hug deck
i just built a deck that is pure hug. as another youtuber put it its a "lets go play mario kart" group hugs. I do pillow fort but rest of deck is geared around giving opponents infinite life, demi infinite mana, infinite creatures (hippos or spirts is my favorite) and as much draw as they want without forcing them to draw out.
I built mine to over hug then panic and stasis lock the board. That or hope I'm ignored until I can swap boards with the last guy standing. When I play pheldegriff I play to cause chaos not win.
I love this new deck style (even if I miss Andy). Tempting Wurm is "fun" but do you know what is better? Boldwyr Heavyweights. And then you Fractured Identity it for the lolz. Heck even Fractured Identity your own Tempting Wurm. Then you get to drop your hand as well.

I play a completely symmetrical Kynaios and Tiro deck, and managed to pull off a hivemind/teferis protection, with possibility storm by casting a heroic intervention O.o
