Great video with great info. Thanks for picking up your shells and not leaving an trace you have been there. This video has me super excited for moving to Vegas now.
Good job picking up shells!! I had jack rabbits about a dozen of times. They are ok, just tough and dry and you have to be careful where you harvest them from as they can carry some serious parasites and viruses. One reason I hunt them is to bring home cleaned out and boil them for about 3 hours and give them to my dog to eat. Dogs love them and they are very high in protein.
Just watching many of your videos since yesterday. What a good job did your parents on you man. You are growing as a very clever and resourceful boy. Life will treat very well to guys like you who know how to survive and solve problems by themselves. I am learning here a lot about hunting. After almost 18 years crazy for flyfishing is time to learn something new. Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
Dude, good shit! I like the behind the target awareness briefing in the intro. You all have good hunting ethics too. My concern in the desert is the snakes.
Waiting for it to get cold Adrian jr. My family is thinking about making sausage links with the jack rabbits meat. Do a "catch" and cook for jacks. Much respect for you and your dad for putting that hare out it misery.
went out myself about two weeks ago. got 6 for about 3 hours of walking around. missed 3 or 4. saw another 10 or so. bunnies in decent numbers. got a new spot. definitely, new bunny hunters need to Google maps out their plan of attack. otherwise it's hard to find good spots.
hey there thanks for sharing, yet ill give you small tip thats you can add. try to be more quiet and bick the right time for hunting for rabbit specially. they are more active from dusk time up to night time
I have a question. I would like to take my kids hunting for rabbit here in high desert in Cali. How can I know which are good for eating?? I see lots of jack rabbits out here
What i love about these guys is ypu can tell they have auch a respect for nature. Naking aure to pick up after themselves and having regard for non game animals. Way to go.
Steven Rinella did an episode on Meateater on how to eat jackrabbit and make it taste real good. I thought the same as you but I'm going to give that a try.
Jayson Potter 7 1/2 shot is a little small it might work at close range but it’ll put a lot of unseeded shot into the rabbit if you’re trying to eat it
I'd never shoot rabbits with anything over a 20 gauge. Anything bigger than 20 and I feel like i'm picking the rabbit out of the shot rather than vice versa. If you've got one, .410 or 28 gauge shotguns are perfect for rabbit as long as you're a good shot and are quick on the trigger. Happy hunting!
Hey I live in Nevada too and just live a few miles from Reno.. love your content, but what editing software do you use? And have you done a jackrabbit cooking video? Thanks!
Sin City Outdoors ah yeah I have that video in my watch later video, I've been trying to get some rabbits with my .22 and cook them the way you did. I hear jackrabbit has way different taste, and no actual nutrients. Would you say different?
Michael Kemp oh no, jackrabbit tastes like gamey rabbit. shotguns for rabbits means you gotta pick thru em a bit to get the bb's out, but they are delicious! my best advice is to either cook them fast if you fry em, or to cook them super slow on the grill. low heat with BBQ sauce
My suggestion gentlemen is when you prepare either animal keep one thing in mind. Cottontails are great for pork and chicken recipes and jackrabbits are good for beef recipes. Oh and brine the meat because you're dealing with animals that are athletes not like stationary farm animals.
Sin City Outdoors would you recommend using an improved cylinder choke? I have a 12 gauge with a 28 inch bird barrel so it holds the pattern pretty tight and I don’t want to shred my rabbits. I was thinking of using no.5 or 4 shot.
