In this video we cover how to identify five medicinal plants and talk about their uses. Plants like Yarrow, Mullein, Plantain, Jewelweed, and Boneset are all really easy to identify and make great medicine. Their uses range from medicine for cuts and wounds, inflammation, infections, colds, flu, acne, and more. Whether you are looking for plants in your yard or in the wild these plants are sure to make some great medicine for you and your loved ones. How to identify Yarrow can be a little tricky as it can look like Poison Hemlock to some, but this video shows you how to identify it while taking that risk of improper identification away so you don't have to fear. These medicinal plants grow in all sorts of environments from fields and clearings to your lawn, they can be rather easy to find once you know how to identify them.

Maybe you're born with it...maybe it's Mullein! Thank you much for taking time to thoroughly discuss & display each plant in this vid; so much more practical & helpful in learning about how to recognize, harvest & use forgeable plants than trying to learn by field guides.

Lol, that's funny! No problem Shannon, I agree that field guides can be difficult to learn from as you can't see the plants in enough detail to cover the bases of each plants features. Thanks for commenting!

In Indiana you can find wild yarrow growing at the edge of a forest or trail, looks like a small fern coming out of the grass

Please use the 'LATIN NAME' so there is no cofusion! Thanks, Yes great toilet paper substitute, I speak from experience :) In the days of old, When knights were bold, and paper was not invented, They used to wipe their rumps on cabbage stumps, and walk away contented. :) Well they were not aware of this handy plant!!! Thanks for the great video. . and paper was not invented ; They used to wipe their rumps on cabbage

Have you written a book on wild edible plants are medical plants. If not would you who would you recommend? I am from South Georgia are plants maybe our little different from yours but I'd like a good reference book for edible and medical plants other than Peterson their books were written about the same time I was born a references are 1952 + 3 + 57. We'll keep the videos coming I really enjoy them I think they're helpful I'm new to Bushcraft and survival. 🚶💀

A question about common mullein. In one of the books I have read about medicinal use of it for asthma - used like a tobacco, inhaling its smoke. Though it wasn't a book on herbs. Can you confirm that this is one of the way of the use of that plant ?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles Год назад
I have read the same thing over the years but honestly I wouldn't recommend smoking it for asthma. I'd recommend a tea or tincture so as to be easier on the lungs.

Hmmm.... they should be there, as I'm seeing them in my video manager when I look at my individual videos. I'll go look on my mobile device real quick and see if they are showing up there, be right back.......okay after looking on my tablet they are showing up in the video description. Are you scrolling down all they way, I assume you are, but asking because they are after my patreon link so they are kind of far down. Just curious and I can't figure out why you are not seeing them. I appreciate you bringing this up Teja, and hopefully I can figure out why they aren't showing up for you. Haven't heard any one else mention this to me yet. Again thank you for bringing this up!

Sorry but Lambs ear is another plant altogether and much smaller.Anyone who calls this plant lambs ear would be incorrect. How you tell Mullein and Lambs ear apart when they're young is by taking a small leaf and crushing the leaf.Lambs ears is aromatic and Mullein is not.Lambs ear is shiny and silky where Mullein is dull looking and rougher.Lambs ear in the wild doesn't grow very tall but Mullein can get 8 ft tall. I would suggest anyone who wants to use either or both of these plants be aware they do not have the same medicinal properties and are not used for the same thing.

I do not know if yellow flowered yarrow can be used in the same way, so I an't be of much help here unfortunately. You could try a google search and see if it has any uses or possible toxins that may make it to where it's not usable, again though I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be of more help here Kaye, I try to answer every question I'm asked with good info but sometimes I can't. Thanks for asking though and hopefully you find some info on it and get the answers you need!

@@yvesrondeau9389 not necessarily. I have white (taken and transplanted from wild), yellow and pink. The colored ones were obtained from commercial seed, so there’s no doubt they’re yarrow.😀Tansy has tight, deep gold button-like flowers and a strong, distinctive smell/fragrance.

When using Mullein as toilet paper the leaf will leave behind on your behind or whatever😂 those little spikes that when you are making tea of the leaves you are supposed to strain out so the little spikes dont lodge in you throat🤷🏻‍♀️ be safe! Mullein is not recommended to use as you would use safe Lambs Ears plant
