In this video I want to show you how I collect and identify worm castings that lay on top of the soil. Its great to use them in your vegetable & flower containers, to feed with natural and organic material Mother Nature provides for us right at the tips of our fingers.
As always, Thank you for watching and Happy planting! I really appreciate every one of you for stopping by and continuing to support me throughout my journey

This is great for urban gardeners. A trip to any local woods that don't get disturbed often will yield pounds of great castings. Just turn over the leaves and the ground will be covered!

Hi Stacey, you are doing great. I love the information you share. I had no idea what earthworm casting looked like. Or where to find them. Thanks 💕 NonnaGrace

Your so welcome NonnaGrace! I had no idea either until I found it by a bunch of worms under my containers. An old timer told me what it was.. lol

They are found in the grass around the garden usually where the soil is fertile. I even find them under leaves that have been laying on the grass fora while, under cardboard if you lay it down under your containers(they love it and it breaks down over time). Also under grass clippings by a fence line😁

I usually some fresh castings on the ground. Do you need to dry them out? Can I crush them and mix them with my planting media? Thank you for sharing
@StaceyHerewegrowagain
@StaceyHerewegrowagain 4 года назад
I just crumble the worm castings and place them in my containers. I don't store the worm castings.. I just harvest them when needed and throw them in my containers right away

I try to utilize everything I can, even worm poop.. lol I didn't think to start collecting and looking for them untill I started growing 6 years ago and needed to buy some worm castings. I had a neighbor show me what they were and how to utilize them for growing 😁

Do they only do their poops on the surface?
@StaceyHerewegrowagain
@StaceyHerewegrowagain 2 года назад
I believe so lol. I'm not too positive and knowledgeable about how the process actually works, but I do know they produce a lot of good usable poop on top of the soil 😁 I always collect as much as I can lol

Why would you do it when a bin might provide you with ~50-100 pounds of castings (or as much as you need) with little-to-no effort within just a month.
@StaceyHerewegrowagain
@StaceyHerewegrowagain 3 года назад
Why not🙄.. Finding a bag of worm castings is nearly impossible these days. Sometimes we have to use what we can find. A worm bin would be great, I just haven't had the opportunity to make one yet. Most of my growing containers have a lot of worms and castings, so I can get it from there, when and if I need it. If your in a pinch, this is a good way to utilize what's in and around the ground 🙄 (The worms are in there natural environment and I don't have to do much maintaining lol)
@Metaltraderx
@Metaltraderx 3 года назад
@@StaceyHerewegrowagain not meant to insult or anything. Just looked more tedious than just a bin. I have several bins and at any time there is lots of castings. Just adding leaves maybe once every other month and kitchen waste as it comes... :-) also feels like if its difficult to find a bag of worm castings in your area, I would think even more about setting own bin. Never need to scavenge hunt again... :-)

Hi, Is this not to do something with termite.I got plenty on my backyard.
@StaceyHerewegrowagain
@StaceyHerewegrowagain 11 месяцев назад
These castings are from earthworms, not termites 😊 At least in my case. If your worried about termites, you could get your property tested for termite activity.
