This step-by-step video will teach you how to correctly identify thread pitch and size using calipers, a pitch gauge, and a thread identification guide. Topics covered include a visual guide to individual parts and names (crests, roots, flanks), the difference between tapered (dynamic) and straight (parallel) threads, the purpose of each (plus the need for sealants), followed by proper measurement procedures of both thread types.

Great information. The demo at first is showing someone applying Teflon tape backwards. Much easier to unroll the tape with tension. Thank You for the video.

Someone will make a lot of money if they can develop an app that will let your phone camera scan the thread and then give the readout of all it's details without having to use a tool and look it up in a book. Guess I am just that lazy.

What is the part number for the thread identifiers. The local swagelok distributor told me that all 3 have to be ordered as a kit and the kit is like $80, I dont really need a digital measuring tool but the guide and thread measuring tools would be super handy. I love swagelok products and I buy swagelok for personal projects and at work for projects.

I threaded my first pipe today but the original ones that were already done that I bought were 20mm on the outside and is being sold as DN15 from China. The pipe that I bought at the home depot afterwards is 21.3mm Used 1/2" die and wrench with oil but it was not easy. Do you think I'm killing my die or is the 20mm not the normal standard? After I threaded the pipe it does fit although the outside differs more than 1mm. It's more for a Steampunk artwork so it doesn't have to do something important like heating.

What does the 1.5 or 1.25 on the thread mean? For example a 10x1.5, what is the 1.5?
@mobmob5944
@mobmob5944 9 месяцев назад
this video is actually quite confusing as he doesnt really make clear what form of measurement is being used at that instant and/or the images that were used are not matching what he is describing like female or male end ? and to answer your question just incase someone else comes across this M11x1.5 or M10x1.0 is in metric format and the 1.5 is the thread pitch from crest to crest

is m4 - 0.7mm the same as 4mm - 0.7mm ? www.amazon.ca/Metric-Taper-Plug-0-7mm-Pitch/dp/B00ANY5I5A if not, whats the diffrence between these 2?
@jon8864
@jon8864 8 лет назад
They are the same. M4 stands for metric 4, which is 4mm. The 0.7mm is the pitch. The difference between the two taps is; one is a taper tap, and the other is a plug tap. A taper tap is pointer than a plug tap. There is a third type of tap called a bottoming tap which is less pointy again. I'm sure a quick google will show you when to use each, but they all tap the same size whole; for an M4 0.7mm bolt.
