This is a video on importing Wav loop samples and creating new style patterns in Korg PA series keyboards. It is a simple but powerful feature that is particularly unique to Korg PA series keyboards. The same method is applicable in all the PA series keyboards ranging from PA 300 to PA 4X. In this video I have tried to explain the method comprehensively especially the do's and dont's to follow while carrying out the process. For this reason the video is a bit lengthy because I have explained and showed things which people especially the beginners might tend to ignore and consequentially affect the quality of the final product (The new style).
I have created these loops by taking the loop samples from the net and editing them using a free sound editing software called audacity. The link to download the software is here; www.audacityte.... There are many video tutorials on the same. In this video I have used the loop samples of tabla, dholak and duff (three different indian percussion instruments) with a BPM of 152.
If you look at a style it has got different elements like intros, variations, fill ins, break and ends. In this video I have covered importing and making all these elements except break.
The process has two different steps;
Step 1- importing, editing, slicing and saving the wav groove samples from external storage device like pendrive.
Step 2. Assigning these saved groove samples to different elements of a style in style record mode and changing different parameters.
Both these steps have to be done simultaneously. If you do one step at one time and defer the second step for another time you may not be able to perform the second step if the keyboard is switched off accidentally or deliberately. You will have to perform the whole process again. If it happens this way you will have to delete the already imported wav loop samples which you could not assign to the style pattern that you wanted to create. It is advisable to follow the below mentioned things while following these procedures...
1. While importing the sample keep the loop on button to hear the sample continuously and detect any errors.
2. Select the appropriate meter before slicing a wav loop sample. when you make different elements of a style with different wav loop samples try to keep the same meter throughout. If you selected 4/4 as the meter for variation 1 you can not make 4/2 or 8/8 for the other variations. It should be the same or it will be end up corrupting the different variations in the style play mode. The only exception is the fill ins because their length is normally shorter than the other elements. Therefore, if the fill in is half the length of a variation you can adjust the meter by making a 4/4 to 4/2 and so on to keep the BPM uniform.
3. The tempo of all the elements has to be same. If you have elements in different tempos you have to make them all same. In my case I adjusted their tempos using audacity. If you import variations with different tempos, they will all be distorted and sound weirdly when you assign them to the different elements in the style record mode.
4. Keep the actual measure of the loop to get the exact BPM of the wav sample. For example if the actual measure of the loop is 2 and the keyboard selected measure is 1 the BPM of the sample will be half of the actual BPM. You increase the measure to its original measure and then you can get the actual BPM of the wav sample.
5. When you assign these saved wav sampes to a new style keep the same measure of the wav loops to the cv length and record length in style record mode. For example if you save a loop with 2 measure and keep the cv length and record length to 4 you will experience a two measure delay when you play it.
6. The BPM and meter of the imported loops should be the same when you assign these saved wav samples to a new style. If you don't do this way the style will sound weird and out of proportion. You can increase or decrease it in the style play mode. If you saved the fill in loops in different meter you should match that meter in style record mode.
