Love this. In AoE2 I constantly worked on build orders vs AI and got too stressed in ladder and would flub everything. With AoE4, I picked Abassid (because camels), watched a guide or two for build orders, practiced a few times against the AI and then jumped into ladder/quick match team games. Accepting that I'll lose often makes the game way more fun, and when I win it's like, hey, that happened the way I wanted! So cheers Beasty for the guides and good content.
No joke, best and most useful video I've ever watched on RU-vid. I'm so motivated to improve in AOE4 after watching this twice and taking lots of notes today. Conqueror, you will be mine!!
In ancient Japan, many people traveled across mountains and rivers to listen to the teachings of the master. It is believed that once a person has mastered one skill, he can learn others without being taught. Today, we can understand the teachings of the world's number one master while sitting at home. Thank you, beasty. This video is priceless.
very wise. the very same holds for Fitness, chess game and any other leisure activity. the problem - as you mentioned - is that most people are not interested in improving, but just in obtaining narcissistic satisfaction. you traced a logic and reasonable path, but it requires a mature approach, i.e. a clear goal (improving, not winning), and an honest self-assessment on motivations for playing. which is out of reach for the majority of players. 😃
Great video! Guys, take notes on what I would call the "mindset" tips to improve. These apply to every game and maybe could even apply to situations other than games...these are the most important!
Hey Beasty, could you please release a water guide? As one who has never followed builds and made my own china build that caried me like 14/0 against gold and plat players I felt really solid. But I just got stomped. HARD. By an HRE player, and his tip at the end was “never ignore water.” I have aways hated water and avoided it, but after that break in my win streak, I feel compelled to learn water. And it is a lot harder for me to learn. I’ve been a land China main since start, being only civ with full mastery. I’ve considered myself a great player, almost always beating plat players (unranked usually) as china, but after being destroyed I really need to learn water. Specifically the juggling of my land resources. How early do I invest into boats? How hard do I invest? How many boats do I want? How do I balance land military with navy?? My account is rob-otc, if it is relevant I lost on Mediterranean. Overwhelmed by landschnencs and Man At Arms. I ALWAYS have the best economy in my games, so I never feel so helpless like I did in that game. His economy was just way better than mine due to fishing. To the point I know I have to learn water to improve.
Hey man, been watching you for a long while now, since sc2 days. I just wanted to thank you for making such a great vid. I've been dabbling in aoe4 since launch but have been losing interest recently because I have been winging it in games. At first I liked how I wasn't tied down to one civ as I was when playing sc2. However, the game becomes less enjoyable when you are playing against people with build order knowledge. I just watched another vid on your two TC HRE build and played some games with it. While I lost both of them it really was more enjoyable to go into those games with a clear cut plan :D
Love your vids. A request; Can you do a video discussing all the good/ bad matchups and maps per civ? You mention it here and there in your tier list videos and how to play x civ vids, but it's never a complete run through for all civs - which would be very useful. So as Civ X, what are the good match ups and maps versus bad match ups and maps? And then all the way through all civs
Like the healing rate of Malian warrior scout. Healing scouts helped with the hit an run and to preserve units while slowing the enemy. They scouts should heal faster. I miss that. I like English and I play passive/defensive.
also people sometimes pioneer new civ relationships and sometimes matchup win %'s have been flipped on their heads because people learnt how to play their matchup.
Keep it up Beasty NEXT video like to improve: " OK that's the keyboard, that's a mouse, if u press A (Q) move on keyboard u can attack all enemies or enemy buildings next to" KEKW
I'm going to call bs on this video. it's just that people who are good at rts are trained differently. they are good at multitasking, great usage of short-term memory, amazing reflex. But what Beasty is greater at is that his calmness to every situation and sprinkling the tastiest salt on the game. Unfortunately, many can't achieve this even with the help of "tips for rts" That's why I LOVE beasty.
I can see the future reddit thread: Beasty ruining every future RTS by fast-tracking improvement for new players. Using too much meta-cognition. Having fun OP!
@@foswa6335 I've seen a lot build orders from him. But, I can't see what he is doing first and how. I know he explains everything. As, Chris Peng said, I'll just watch some games on Twitch that will be helpful.
i was brozne playing english, i changed civ i got to gold and now playing another civ and im almost platinum. i improved a lot bec Valdemar19022 coached people for free and i joined the coaching session and next day i was doing 10x better.
Also this video explains why I am in gold. I struggle to have the time and/or energy to really try all the time. Sometimes it’s fun to just queue up a no stress team game haha
Hi. I'm level 172 on aoe4, right now doing the malians mastery, but I'm struggling to win against the hardest AI. Against which civ should I try? Any tips please. Thanks
I'm still trying to figure out which civ is most compatible with my playstyle. Although I've played AoE4 before, I played it for fun, but I would like to improve my game and play pvp, maybe even get some rank. Initially Initially I played with the French and the Rus, but recently when I got back into the game I was enjoying playing with the Ottomans, but I also tried to give HRE a chance after the Beasty build order video. self-criticism: My indecision between which civ to choose hinders me, but I believe I can see my mistakes after defeats, although I find it difficult to correct them because I am a noob.
From one. Noob to another, I just reached gold from bronze in rank! I only get a couple hours a night if I’m lucky so not a lot of practice time. Best thing I can tell you is keep playing till you figure out which civ you like most. I love mongols switched to Delhi for a good while and back at mongols and doing better now. Just takes time, I still get my ass handed to me but hey it’s fun to play and learn. Also for the love of god, if I mass knights, do not mass spearman, I have people do that a lot and they waste time chasing me as I’m hitting their economy and pressuring them. Crossbow or handcannoneers. Hope that helps, keep at it!!!!
@@WardaddyXCIV absolutely brother, it’s all about staying positive and knowing you’re always able to improve. That mindset alone will help you. I thought I’d give Malians a try, few times for the whole trade boom. I can’t do it it is too much for me to do I’m not that advanced yet lol but mongols I can boom boom boom. I believe in you bro. If you want to join a great community where there’s a lot of help and knowledgeable people go to twitch and look up Twinkie757. I’m not saying you’ll have the same experience I did but it’s a start.
@@TheRealDickNixon yes, although I am currently busy with studies I will try to practice. I spent a few weeks without playing, which must have hindered my progress, but my strategies were quite basic, and I could hardly deal with couters. Normally I used the build order of the ottomans of archers + sipahis, attacking the opponent as quickly as possible, but I needed to develop a more versatile mentality of attacking the opponent's resources. Thanks again, I'll look for the twitch channel you recommended.I still need to watch Beasty's new video about civs.
Auto build barracks every time. Wall up most vulnerable villager entrance. Scout their school of cav so you know when knight is out and follow his knight with scout. Repel with spears. Do not chase and try to kill, only repel with the spears and keep spears close to your villagers.
Id say thats the opposite for me. I was playing english full feod every game, then defolt french and I was burned very fast, cause I was just loosing at some point, and had a feeling that nothing I can do, i didnt know how to win some maps and matchups. Once I started playing meta civs on meta maps and any strats that make sence it became way easier to learn
“I don’t know how to win on some maps and some matchups.” He literally said in the video: you need to learn about the maps and matchups by e.g. watching high level player’s replays, ask questions to someone who’s better than you, examine your own losses, and … just think hard. If you put no effort into actually learning and thinking, of course you’re gonna keep losing.
@@chrispeng8417 the point is proplayers don’t play some civs on some maps, and some starts in some matchups, that’s what I learnt from them and it worked)
You guys realize society is collapsing and staying too distracted by games is going to leave you like a Dark Age Vill against a Fuedel Age society and a Post-Imp tyrannical government in the real world, right? We might have months left of a stable society, and if you're waiting until then to develop your stable base of real life, you're going to greatly regret all the time you spent on this game. Spoken in love.
@@Jk-qx7gm so what you gonna do instead? you gonna magically change the trajectory of society and the world? Escapism is a necessary human element, and we've been partaking in it since the beginning of human kind. Can you over do it? Sure, but u also cant just sit around and stress n worry about all the things u cant control 24/7 either. Its like getting all up in arms over the gaza or ukraine war and shit like that. Whats that gonna do for ya? Nothing, nada, zilch
I don't think that's very helpful, because even if I (Plat III) play against a Diamond III player I will have a 99% loosing chance. Just start into Ranked, after 5-10 games (It is normal to loose almost all of them.) you will be placed with same skill opponents. From there, you can start improving, analyizing your replays etc.
@@athenus.f28 i mean im not aiming to win anyway, just need a feedback. and the stuff diamond players and conqueror players pay attention to is vastly different
No matter what beasty says, IM STILL THE LOSER OF THIS COMMUNITY....I just don't think he gets some of us lower level players since he's a skilled gamer for so long. His content is great and I'm a subscriber but I think some content is just not helping us. That lowest ranked player he made a video on is NOT showing how really bad some of us play. If some of you all seen some of my replays and how I get trashed you'll be like "daaamnnn son where'd you find this!?"
Lmaooo thats funny man and I get it. I think his points later in the video will help you tho. Watch a replay of a loss and pick one thing you think you really mess up. Then go into a game against AI and focus on correcting that. Then continue doing that until you improve. For instance I used to float big resources constantly as well as not produce villagers constantly. So now those 2 things are always on my mind. Build buildings, build villagers, build buildings, build villagers. I'm way better bc of it. You can do it.
@@tfigmoney520 thanks dude, I'm always bummed out on this game and it seems I can never get beasty or any "pro" to reply to anything I ask. Yet everyone else at least gets some form of help. It's not their responsibility to carry me or anything I know they're not obligated for anything to me it's just I do subscribe and watch their videos and I can't even get one video review. Sucks man but I appreciate your support and suggestions, I also float resources and I tens to choke up on castle age meaning feudal I'm strong with a rush but castle seems to be more involved and I'm not good at expanding and controlling three different places at once. But I will try and practice your method so thanks
@@kmikel3669 one thing to remember is this game is HARD. Its a lot to keep track of, a lot to manage. So cut yourself some slack. But at the same time these pros don't owe you anything as far as video reviews so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I like beastys suggestion. Go into a discord and ask someone slightly higher level than you to look at your replay and see if they will give you advice. You don't need a pros advice to get better bc they are so much higher level. You'll get there :)
@@tfigmoney520 yea I know good and well this game is hard, I hear you in that. And as I said no one owes me anything, but I would think if I created content I'd like to reach out to those that follow me and make my channel what it is. I'm just one person I wasn't saying this in a bad way. I'll keep trying as you are and appreciated the feed back. I did forget I watched a few of demuslim's streams and he replied in length on the first one I watched a few days ago and just that bit helped a lot he seems like a cool dude. But I asked some that are a little higher than I and honestly most are arrogant and talk crap and just want to see anyone lose so it's no help man. I guess the low gold league is where I have to stay lol. Game is amazing tho I won't take that away from it
