This video will explain how to "improve your eye" so you can see a distance. I explain how it's listening to the beat of the canter and feeling as well as seeing the stride coming.
There is no such thing as a bad distance, just a distance you don't like. Your idea of a bad stride might be when your close but to a professional rider, they might think that is a great distance. Try to accept and re-act, then the strides become consistent and smooth.

Love how you talk about listening to the canter! It's something a lot of riders forget about but is so useful :)

Your videos are helping me so much as I get back into riding after 20 years off! There's so much to think of when approaching a jump but your advice is always so practical and easy to digest and put into action :)

See the distance and accept it! Look at the ground rail and count your six strides to help keep your rhythm. Works every time :-)

It immerses the brain in the rhythm of the canter, so simple but so effective.

I can see distances, but when I see a 'bad' distance, I don't know how to correct it. Let's say I see a really deep distance 5 strides away from the jump, do I collect the canter, or support with my legs for a bigger stride?

Such a useful tool.. really helps with the riders timing leading up to and over fences and also has the added bonus of making you breathe throughout your SJ round!! - has really helped my daughter with her riding! ;)

Hi! So I am wondering what to do im short turns when it comes to counting six? Because a really short turn sometimes will give me 2-3 strides before the jump? So shpuld i count from the turn?
@KirstinKellyEquestrian
@KirstinKellyEquestrian Год назад
I look early and start counting before the short turn as counting six gives you long enough to listen to the beat too

Now when you see the close distance, lift your chin to engage your core and encourage the horse to rock back and propel upwards ✅
