When you can teach a musically abstract technical artistic subject in a non-technical visual & taste-oriented way like this? Your lesson methods become pure genius. Has to be one of the top easiest to grasp music lessons ever published on RU-vid. This will be a classic for years to come! Kudos!
Great. Very enlightening. I'm at the point where I need a methodical way to practice over Blues chord progressions, and this is the perfect answer and method. Thanks!
I was just binge watching your videos and I found this one, that I've watched BEFORE, but NOW is the first time that I realized that this video is by YOU!!!! I LOVE this video, and your OTHERS are ALSO good!!!! 😍
I love anchovies! So by your reckoning the altered scale is - base, anchovies, chilli, garlic, tomato, pineapple and salami (no cheese). That is one hell of a pizza. On the other hand, the lydian dominant is base, oregano, tomato, garlic, cheese, garlic, ham, salami which sounds much more like something a normal person might eat.
Very imaginative approach and very inspiring. Thank you for all your sharings. It's very stimulating and really encourages to invent on our own too. Tons of digital applause (likes and shares) !
The best video I've watched on this subject! Very tasteful solo choices, easy to replicate - one thing is to hear the notes being played by someone else; another totally different thing is to play the same lines and listen to those amazing tones coming from yourself! And the way you made the pizza metaphor actually working - we can indeed feel how each interval tastes - is pure ingenious!
Wow!!! Sir, your ideas, your presentation is brilliant!! You are an incredible musician and teacher. As an old washed up man, I only wish I could have had a teacher like you when I was a boy. In a world where there is so much bad and hate, it is good to know that there are people like as you who are spreading such good!! Whoever put a thumbs down on your work is jealous and envious. Please keep posting.
Hi Nick, all these teaching videos, are quite entertaining which holds the viewer's interest! Thank you for developing these awesome ways of learning and enjoying music! 🎶
Great Video! The thing i like best is the clarity of examples. It makes it easy to compare the different note choices/colours/flavours with each other. nice one!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VERY USEFUL VIDEO. GREETINGS FROM BRAZIL. GOD BLESS YOU AND WISH THE BEST. THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT GENEROSITY IN SHARING YOUR GOLD KNOWLEDGE WITH ALL OF US.
Hello Nick, Congratulations! I most say that this method works very well I used it with some of my mallets beginner and intermediate students. It's very basic and super easy to understand. Not intimidating at all! Anyone can do it. Great information on you Chanel. Oc
Man... I love the way you teach! This is a great approach with great practical examples! Could you upload a long video with just the backing track from this video?
I wish you had shown the patterns that you were playing in a score so we could better understand how you use each of them for a melody. This is the creative part. Many people can just play the melody fragments by ear, but other people need to at least see it once on paper if this is very new to them.
three major blues scales for the whole progresion fits nice, terefenko says the same, i like what you have done, the same changes for the three chords sounds nice all the time and is a good method, really good one
Very nice and usefull tuto ! Very usefull for the ears and the fingers on instrum. I discovered something deviate from this : the basic 1 3 5 6 of the base pizza is the base for Piano Left Hand ! Thanks a lot, I will practice this for my Left Hand. Thanks a lot and take care
Of course I forgot to mention this tuto is very usefull to internalize the key degrees. When I play the 1356 my feeling is : it could be enough, full of sense. This is very uefull also to practice some finger prints on the keyboard. By the way, is this approach different than scales approach ?
Or should we build our pizzas as tertial structures? For instance Lydian pizza is base, tomato, cheese, olives, oregano, garlic and ham? That makes more sense actually as a menu listing.
Hi, I have a question. You're playing all these scale degrees over only dominant chords, if we change the chord that's being played under the melody (and therefore the context) the note sounds must surely change to different 'ingredients'. Or do the comments you made about each degree apply regardless of the chord? Thanks!
Charlie Pitcher the ingredients would surely change if it were say a major chord and even if it were a dominant chord not a part of the blues, this is more a metaphor for what each note is like when playing the blues and how you can use each one to add flavor to your solo
Every budding blues guitarist should work through this. I'm looping the examples to follow along. I think this is good ear training. For me, you seem to come in early on the 5th bar (catches me every time). Are you playing a clarinet or an oboe?
Congratulations my friend I subscribe and I give you a thousand I like, I love music, just a big curiosity: what software do you use for animations? Respectfully greetings and blessings from Mexico City
Great lesson!! Only one thing I would add.....Please, don’t put Grandma in such negative image! I’m a Grandma and I play Monk both on sax and piano! Just saying....😎
Jazz Duets , thank you for responding. I didn’t just “take it that way”. The image of the angry, sour Grandma is a stereotype of older women and as you might know stereotypes are not a good thing for anyone...its limiting for everyone. Just saying...it’s hard to break into new thinking but it has to. Thank you for listening! And again...you are a great teacher!
I got this idea from 'Madagascar' - a film my kids loved- where there is a sprightly grannie ! So it was kind of positive. BTW I am old enough to be a grandpa! especially here in northern argentina where it is not uncommon at 35!
Very creative...Thank you... It is like when A. Rimbaud talked about synesthesia in the XIX century. Music is so abstract that semiotic cannot reach it. Pizza might!
You have produced an Awesome Sauce. You can cook for us anytime :). This was very informative in content i am eager to just play around with the concept.
