I'm not your target audience (inspector), but I found this very interesting. I was hoping this also had something to do with the multi-wire branch / shared neutral circuits I have in my 1959 house. After getting a few minor shocks updating my switches and outlets/GFCIs, I finally researched and learned enough to realize that my house has a bunch of these types of circuits. After seeing all the circuits on my panel skimping on the neutral wires, and I am shocked to find it's a quite common practice. My breakers for these shared neutral circuits were never fitted with the "common handles" to assure both circuits are shut off before any work is done. I've set a long-term goal to run additional 12 AWG neutral wires through the old metal conduit to separate the circuits as much as possible. Do you have a video I missed on that topic or strong feelings about shared neutral circuits? Thanks

So is it based off of service or what the panel is rated for? For example 100 amp service but the panel is rated at 200 amps? My panel is rated at 200 amps, I have 100 amp service but the panels has 30 single pole slots (15/15).

the only thing worse that an unethical contractor is ANY home inspector you care to name every last one of them is a scammer they have no licensure and zero liability for anything they claim and yet idiotic home owners pay them to come out and act as if they have the slightest clue about the trades.

Excellent and informative video. I'm in the process of adding 3 new circuits for my garage. This video has been super helpful in confirming what I was thinking. I have a breaker box that has 2 tandem breakers installed where the breaker box should not allow ANY tandem breakers. I believe that I'll be upgrading my box to allow not only for the 3 circuits that I want to add but also for the 2 additional circuits that were added in the past via these 2 tandem breakers. I'm also considering upgrading my service from 100 amp to 200 amp. I believe that I'll pull the trigger on this also.

If box bus tabs can handle a double pole 60, I see no reason why a tandem 15 would be an issue on any 1 pole or bus tab. I could be wrong, but it sounds logical.

Thanks. So many videos on RU-vid showing electrical advice by people who are not electricians. Working in facilities I’ve learned a lot, or not seeing the work by other electricians blows my mind. I’ve now bought a very expensive circuit tester to match circuits with breakers on old panels. I’ve always wanted to map both dead and hot runs which also happen to just be laying loose in the drop ceiling just waiting for someone to life a panel. I’m also looking to update or change the configuration of my cutler-hammer home panel so your presentation has helped me with that.

Helped me out a lot regarding the use of tandem issues and did make me feel that my time was not wasted in one of my projects installing a sub panel when the main panel was "Full" I learned a lot thanks
