How To Install 4WD Systems LOKKA In A Nissan Patrol

Here you'll see how I've installed the 4WD Systems LOKKA in my 06 Nissan Patrol.
Once you have the diff centre out, it's fairly straight forward. It's a little bit fiddly - but it's not rocket science.
When putting the axle gear, cam gear and spacer in place, make sure you get the order right - or you'll have to pull it all out and start again (a lesson I learnt the hard way).

You made that look easy! I have had one sitting in my shed for a couple of years with the intention of putting it in but I never seem confident enough. Might give it a whirl now that Im confined to the house and nothing to loose 😅 Great vid mate!

The hardest part was pulling apart the front end to get the diff centre out. Separating the tie rod ends was a pain, until I went out and bought the correct tool for the job - 30sec later it was done. The LOKKA really did go in that easily. If you can get the front end apart, you’ll have no trouble with getting the LOKKA in. Plus there is a full set of instructions for getting the LOKKA in too. -Hillboy

Finished? What about the pin? Without that installed it's not going to work.

Fair call. I didn’t show the rebuilding of the diff, or rebuilding the front end with new seals. But I can assure you the pin is in there. ;) - Hillboy

@@LastXplorer Some housings or hemisphere's have the pin retainer just mashed in place with a punch mark, I was hoping for a butt thread tap & grub screw retainer with loctite.

I’ve only really noticed it on tight turns (like wheel hard over), as that is when it is at its worst (and I was listening for it) Doubt you would even notice when you’re out wheeling - I don’t. - Hillboy

G'day mate - sorry for the slow reply. Yes, I am still using the factory auto hubs on the Patrol. I've got about 238k on the clock now. I think they have been in there for about 40K give or take.

Hi Tito, I am really loving it. I haven't had the opportunity to get out and use it as much as I would have liked. I was out on a muddy trail the other weekend with the family, and we passed a 80 series who pulled up and told us they couldn't get past.(They were camped near us, similar AT and standard lift) We cruised up it, 2nd gear low - you could feel the car slipping but it just kept going forward. Was really quite impressive. On the sand - didn't even know it was there. On high speed compacted dirt roads is where I have noticed the steering seems more direct (not sure if that is quite the right way to describe it). Still, no drama's with corning. On bush trails, stuff that you'd normally get hung up on, or need to use a bit of momentum to get over, the Patrol just plodded along as though there was nothing there. Again, no issue with steering in and around the tight stuff. It really has increased the capability of the patrol quite dramatically. Cheers, Hillboy

Hi Tito - having the Patrol, it's got the bullet proof LSD in it. So I only have the LOKKA in the front. I guess it comes down to how hard you are planning to go. Most of the stuff we do it touring, as opposed to heavy duty, big articulation, wheel lifting step climbs. Give Raleigh a call at 4WD Systems and have a chat to him about what you want to do. He'll point you in the right direction. Hillboy

@@gufiaito69able front, I had a front lokka fitted to a 2004 ford courier. Arb air locker in the rear. Just driving with the front lokka in made the car so much more capable. Rear locker was only engaged on steep slippery hills.

What happens if you leave out the thrust washer ?

The short answer is, it probably wont work and because the gap is too big you'll break pins. The long answer - as part of the install you need to check the gap between the cam gears to make sure it is within tolerances specified in the installation instructions for your vehicle. This gap is crucial to the correct operation of the LOKKA. If the gap is not within tolerances you'll need to get a slightly thicker or thinner thrust washer(s) to ensure the gap is within tolerances.
