How to Install a 2085X Steering Servo | Traxxas X-Maxx 

Can not believe this isn't a stock part.

Just finished this job it took me about an hour with power tools plus some distractions. Works great so far

Just got mine , absolute beast ,love it ,blows me away , built like a tank but fitted with a pee shooter servo . oh well fitted the new 2085x servo and its fixed it, probably my only quibble with the Xmaxx , best RC car ive ever owned ,absolute game changer for me coming from nitro savage XL .

Been bashing mine for almost 2 years now and I'm still on the stock servo lol (now it will go out since I said something) Upgraded upper and lower a-arms around the whole truck/rims and tires/steering arms/rear big gear/dog bones/upgraded bearings and hardware in all 4 wheels.and brand new lipos. It's an absolute beast! 💯 Worth every penny I've put into it. Now I'm adding this servo and a new body to my cart lol

make sure you turn the tsm all the way off before you adjust the steering trim.

Why was this not done to begin with? These units are expensive and made to bash.

With easy use the stock servo went out on 3rd battery. The 2085x servo should be a stock part! Looks hard, but only took about 30 min to complete thank you for the video but no mention how tight should you go with the new spring?

Brand new xmaxx , my steering servo 2085 give up at day 2 !! I replaced it to the 2085x and after 30 minutes it was also game over ...

Man, I agree with all of yall, and let me say I have no skin in the game with Traxxas. To be honest, I'm Gen X, back in the 80s. Traxxas was trash it was all about TA, Kyosho. I come back to the hobby at 51 years old and a lot has changed. For one, Traxxas now leads the market with RTRs , wtf? We used to have to build our kits so we could work on em when they broke and they did break. At 11 years 1983, I spent all my lawn mowing money on my cheap Kyosho Pegasus. I was racing at my local track that I mowed lawns all summer to buy myself. Anyway, I've been back 2 years now and learned all about brushless setups , lipos , etc... And I will say this even back in the day, we would upgrade our cars. There were so many aftermarket parts and the fluorescent dyes by light speed. lol it was all part of the hobby. It most likely cost Traxxas a lot of money on R&D , production, importing, etc... So, to make it cost-effective, I can see where they cut corners to keep the consumers' price down. Servos, axles, drive shafts, gears, etc... all the stuff that most people upgrade anyway. I dont think any manufacturer makes a product in this Biden Economy without having to cut corners. Stuff is expensive! Now, what I see as a great thing is that Traxxas is catering to the RC enthusiast. They just released the Mudboss ( modified) have yall seen this car? I purchased mine from Taxxas in Mckinney, Tx, on June 23rd, two days after the release. The detail is amazing , so if I have to spend a few more bucks on whatever to make this car bulletproof, then so be it. Where else are you gonna find a modified that looks this good? And yes, even better than the mudboss. So I'm gonna hold off on the bitchen and accept the cost in order to get the cool cars. Im hoping for an outlaw winged sprint car next.

This x max 8s $900 plus two batteries $150 plus charger $100.. and I have to take entire rc apart for a faulty part traxxas build it with. I put four hours on this car and it sat ever since. Now here I am putting hours of time into it just to be able to use it.. im going with losi rc for now on. This is insane.

When i put the bigger spring, i lost about 80% if right turn, left turn is alright. How can i fix or get normal right turn?

Pretty sad that after I spend $1200 on an Xmaxx and Traxxas batteries, I get 1 run and have to upgrade the steering to what should have been there to begin with. Didn't have this kind of inferior parts in Axial equipment.

is this servo 1/5 scale or something In the middle also could I put a 5th scale serv0 in the xmaxx get way more torque than one of these right how much is the stock 2085 in torque and how much is the 23% gain on 2085x in oz

Is the servo horn centered at 12 o'clock? On some models it's centered at one tooth clockwise from 12.

She lost me at disconnect the module. How many linkage screws are there? I unscrewed one then flipped over. Took the 4 front screws out. Then tried to pull it apart and failed

Just got new x maxx 10 mins round park no hard driving then servo stopped working made a loud whining noise I am gutted £1500 only lasted 10 mins

Do you need to upgrade the toe links to aluminium with this servo?

I've just got replaced my xmaxx wheels with new ones, but after bout 5mins run time my servo dies. Any advice?

Silly question here: If I do this upgrade to servo 2085X, but keep the stock spring (instead of installing the much firmer spring that comes with the upgrade), would that further protect my build from servo stripping? (The gears of my initial stock servo were stripped in no time, and even though the upgraded servo is all-metal-gears, I really don't want to have to dish out close to 100usd with delivery to fix this problem ever again!).

Mine didn't make it through a full battery before it blew the original servo out. I wasn't even bashing it either.

That seems like a big job. I think putting in a new servo into the rustler is easier...

Is it possible to run this servo @ 7.4v or will it fry? I mean can it handle with different ESC?

Picked up 2020 X Maxx and stock servo failed after 3 runs. Paid to upgrade to 2085x servo and now it has failed!!! Need to warranty these parts. Truck not even 1 month old! Taking to my local hobby shop to repair.

I recently had to put a new servo in my 1/16 slash and the servo works but now it doesn't go as fast and makes a clicking nose I've also looked if the pinion was to close to the spur but it was fine can anybody help on what's wrong?

What servo options are there other than 2085X??

My original servo is going strong. Of course, now that I've seen this it'll die. The ESC died though, which is why I'm on RU-vid.

Traxxas should be utterly embarrassed to sell a product that breaks in the first use putting around a level yard. Our xmaxx made it around the yard for a couple slow laps before the stock servo gears stripped on Christmas. What a big disappointment! I'm going to install the metal gear kit until I have the chance to upgrade to a Promodler servo. Honestly the upgrade should be free given the faulty design.

My stock servo broke on 3rd run. The 2085x broke on 2nd run. Now I have two servos I need to send to traxxas while my warranty expires. :(.

God damn the wheels turn fast now. Great upgrade but should have been in there factory.

Pretty sad i paid mine 1500€ batteries included and i got all the accessories with proline MX43, Proline shock absorbers full kit from springs to you name it, LEDS front/ rear from Traxxas was happy for the first month then now im not enjoying anymore servo issues, differential issues, got my 2nd servo installed 2085X keep on breaking 😔🔫

Just upgraded. Plastic gears were fine in old 2085 after I did swap. Just weak torque I think . Shouldn't need to do this upgrade in the first place but here we are. £100 for the 2085x and they couldn't even give me a metal servo horn😂

Why the heck didn't this come stock on it? you guys know this is probably one of the biggest issues with the X Max and you make somebody pay an extra 100 bucks to get a decent servo !?

Omfg. Why did the tell us not to over torque the cap on top of the spring! It broke from the pressure.

I installed this new servo and I feel like turning isnt as tight as with the stock servo. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

This servo fits the Maxx as well. The servo saver spring that comes with the kit will NOT fit the Maxx. It's not even close to the same size. Support recommended the steel servo horn to go with it.

For 1k truck, they could've fitted a decent servo. Mine died today. Only 5 days. And only run it for 3 days. First problem was front shocks started leaking after first run for about 20 min. No jumps or crazy stunts. Then the servo just gave up. Just running back and forth the park. Sad. Overall its a good truck, just they could've done better out the box. Im just glad that nobody else in the park, its dangerous.

Ive haven't even had this truck for a month yet. And I'm already on my 3rd servo. The stock broke on first run. And now the 2085 ain't even coming on. Oh and not to mention on my 3rd pinion gear, 3nd spur gear. And already needing new wheels. This truck is hell for me. Wasted $$

traxxas takes advantage of their customers any RTR kit they sell is not made with premium part's. yet they still sell the kits for $1200.00 plus tax an for limited edition model's like my 8s snap on tooltruck xmaxx that retail's at $1500,00 but only thing special is the body the chassis an drivetrain part's are not their premium part's plastic geard servos an weak steering components that need upgraded within 1 or 2 runs even with out jumping it. the servo saver doesn't save the servo at all I've stripped the factory 2085 and the high torque 2085x with stiffer spring the turbuckle included with the upgrade kit is junk. the plastic steering horn strips once upgraded. I stripped even a metal servo horn with the 2085x that I shouldn't have had to replace or repair with in two runs. traxxas needs to do something about this issue or plan on losing loyal customers like myself.

The stock servo is a joke. It stopped working after 5 different outings on a turf soccer field. Absolutely no jumps. Upgraded to

"Upgrade" servo is still trash. I replaced my stock servo with this about 3 months ago, have run 3 sets of lipos through the truck since then and the new servo has burned out. Now im going to throw the metal gears in the stock servo. What a waste of money that turned out to be. 😑

i got about 30 seconds , maybe 150 feet then done on a brand new right out of the box servo JUNK

2085 lasted 2-week gear melted, 2085x lasted 2 months I'm still waiting for my replacement 2080 plus have to pay the shipping to send the 2085x back ,,, ridiculous ... never traxxas again .

A thousand dollar truck and this pos fails in 20 minutes running through a fairly flat field. I've been running traxxas for years. This is a complete joke.

That servo and the stock servo are junk. Oh and the esc is not much better.
