I have recently gone back to using the simple synthetic flapper valve which I find 100% airtight. However. Quite often I find the valve has stuck to the end of the blowpipe after having played the pipes the previous day, which then re-opens and clears after smartly blowing air through. To avoid this, do you recommend applying some kind of lubrication (vasaline/hand cream)?) on the surface of the valve to help prevent this, as I'm also worried about the valve possibly sticking during a solo performance, however unlikely? maxwellfan55 Thanks for your question. This can happen, and your proposed solution is great. Just wipe a bit of Vaseline, pipe bag zipper lube, or Hemp Seal product around the base of the blowpipe, where it contacts the flapper valve. We suggest applying it to the blowpipe, rather than directly to the valve.
