I've been building batteries for a while now, at first I used an active balancer, it ended up hurting more than doing any good. You should top balance first, then long as you did a good job it shouldn't need it again for a while unless you fully charging and fully discharging often. Active balancers are always balancing. Not just when the batteries are full which is far more ideal. I leave a little blue box called "cell meter 8" plugged in just so I can monitor how each bank handles heavy loads. My latest pack is a 16p4s which is around 128 ah. No bms, no balancer, just 2-500 amp fuses. Im glad to see more and more folks getting into lithium. It is how the future will be for a short min lol till solid state batteries take off. Keep the content coming brotha we will be here

I'm running a small 32ah headway pack in addition to agm.i gave been running without a balancer after reading reviews on the bms deals.hit or miss.been running since beginning of yr no issues.i do have a disconnectfrom agm so the headway don't charge into the agm due to higher resting voltage of my 38120 cells.

Nice video ! I’m building a small bank of 4 of those headway cells now! But it will be used for a Go Bag. It is going to power ham radios in the wild in case of u-no-what! These will be charged with a 40 watt solar panel. ALOT OF People build stuff like this! So it’s 4 cells with bms and solar panels. Gotta be small and light! People are also doing this with cb radios to practice with and have fun with and you don’t need a license for. I used to build big amps and speakers for bands! I love the shot of you in front of a wall of speakers!

For a case I like making my own. Expanded pvc works great. Also I'd definitely have some kind of fan to keep them cool. Also most important. Everyone running lithium NEEDS to really secure these banks to your trunk. If you get into an accident that bank will become a heavy brick that can catch on fire.

Coming from experience. I have 80ah headway bank at the time diy case from 1\2 inch Plexi with a aluminum frame ... Luckily I welded two thick steel supports directly to my frame. Bc I got into an accident at 55mph. UPS truck pulled out in front of me and 55 to 0 instantly.

Got the exact same setup. I charged it up a month ago and it's been sitting in my room. Fully charged 14.3. After sitting for over a month it's at 14.1 impressive. About to order the balancer. I'll be running and odyssey 98 ah agm up front along with a 98 ah agm in rear along with my new 16ah headway cell on a jp 33 @ half ohm along with my jp34ab 4 channel

I belive your better with a balancer I find that if you dont use one your cells that have your out going power wires will be out of balance a bit, I run a balancer on my pack it keeps them happy.

I have 8 headway cells to replace the factory batery and by mistake i left the dome light on and it discharge my bank and it took charge back never.

4k you'll need to upgrade your alternator and I'd have atleast a 80ah bank you can also pair lithium with supercap bank 500 farad minimum

You can leave it hooked up or just plug it in ever so often to get them back in balance. It’s hard to say how much you need for a certain amount of power without diving into the entire set up

You mentioned these banks shouldn't be charged at over 14.8v. But my truck runs right at 14.9v after installing a HO alternator. What should I do? If I just run it, will the cells just die prematurely? Or will I set off a lithium fire in the back of my truck? Any way to regulate voltage for just that battery and not the entire electrical system? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have an aftermarket alt your best bet might be to get a regulator that will work with it and try to charge them around 14.6. That being said you’re only slightly over the recommended voltage so I suspect you will be ok

I really appreciate you making these videos for us guys just getting into lithium.. I'm actually in the process of making 2 banks just like this one.. I dont want to do a battery delete due to my truck being my everyday driver so was planning on putting one of the banks under my hood in a coustom box and the other in my cab where my 2nd battery is at now.. I got a high output Alternator and all upgraded electrical as in the big 4 with premium 0 gage.. but I am 100% new to lithium.... what is your opinion on my plan ???.. any feedback would be much appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🔊

My advice would be to join the 2 packs into a large single pack and run that in the cab and keep your stock battery up front. These cells are better in a more controlled environment and you’ll get the extra amp hours from the underhood for starting.

@@HifiVega that was my original plan. I was going to keep my a GM under the hood and build a big Bank for in the cab and was going to use a stinger battery isolator to keep the AG ham from drawing voltage from the lithium Bank when truck is shut off but several people insisted on that being dangerous saying the lithium batteries with blow up however I like the idea of keeping my original battery under the hood and just having lithium's in the cab. So you're saying that would be totally safe? And once again I appreciate you taking the time to respond and helping me

@@bassanonymous4923 no diy lithium set up is totally safe, but those cells would be safer in the cab of the vehicle rather than under the hood.

@@HifiVega I have a EverStart Platinum AGM under the hood and I understand it's not 100% safe with the lithium but as long as everything is done correct I shouldn't technically have any issues with the AGM and lithium Bank with the Stinger isolator in-between I'm hoping LOL

Thanks! This is 16ah and for your set up I’d recommend at least double this size so 32ah with the alt you have.

Would that one active balancer work with a 32 cell 64ah battery and if so how do I wire it to balance all 32 cells? Or do I need one for every 8 cells?

hey vega i had a bad speaker install , they didnt install my crossover for component speaker didnt even install new tweeter just left in original tweeter and the only thing they did was change out midrange of comp,the only reason i found out i wanted to change out those speakers to put in my other suv and to add insult to injury the new installer couldnt even find crossover , these are the morel tempo ultra 602 mkv , my ? is could i just use my original focal ascess crossovers or just run it inline without? thanks vega for your advice!

I don’t think those would give you the best results because Focal typically runs their tweeter at a higher crossover point. It wouldn’t hurt your speakers most likely, but I don’t think they’d be as good as they might be on their included passives

I have a question, if you can help me out, please. If I'm getting my nephew a Kicker 12" and the max RMS is 500 watts at 2 ohm and the 5 channel amp's sub channel maxes out at 300 watts at 2 ohm = is underpowering the sub, going to damage it ????????

You’ll never damage a subwoofer from under powering it unless you’re turning it up too loud to try to make up for less power and get it into a hard clip for a long time
