Well done buddy. This is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of getting it done. I will also add I love the fact that you have come up with a way of mounting in solidly but easy to detach so I can then roll the boat up with no probs. Very smart. I was thinking of doing something with pvc pipe ove the pontoon but the luggage strap is far easier and more solid. Cheers big ears.
I did this. It worked. Rather than one of those plastic clip luggage strap, I used cam buckle strap, seemed like the safer option. I put bits of rubber between transducer and tube as well as between cam buckle and tube. Used a plastic food tub for the battery just like this, padding it out inside with stiff foam to hold the battery tight. I screwed the Garmin mount into the tub lid and then strapped the battery tub onto the boat's bench, with a piece of rubber mat beneath it to hold it in place. I also put another strap around the box and mount in the other direction for insurance on the mount. I didn't get any image when moving at speed, were it mounted on the transom more towards the keel I suspect I'd have better chance of that. But you're typically not looking for fish at high throttle, right? I did all this, and through no fault of the unit, I STILL DIDN'T CATCH ANY FISH YESTERDAY arrrgh. It's not a magic box that will get you fish. It just tells you that fish are "around", because they are already gone from the spot you see them at. Marking a waypoint and trying (difficult) to head back to it does not do it. Also - 7ah battery didn't last nearly as much as I'd hoped - power the unit down and do periodic checks or processes rather than just leaving it on.
Thanks for the write up! Very good to hear that it went OK for you. I typically only use it at low speed or when drifting to get the depth and to see what the seabed is doing. It's great for showing you hidden features, holes or structure down there that could hold fish. When there are a few fish directly below you then you will 100% see them as well!
Hello mate, a rubber grommet will seal the hole in your battery box. Also, are you going to cut the bolts down that are securing your wheel mounts? It looks like a scraped leg waiting to happen. You could cut them down and use acorn nuts to give the bolts a nice rounded edge. A Dremel with a cutting disc will make light work of those bolts, just don’t slip and cut through a tube or the floor 😂
Do you still use this method for attaching the transducer? Do you get any interference placing it there. I've just got a t27 and was looking for ideas 👍
Hi Graham, yes I still do it like this. It's been working perfectly for me so far. You can see some of the garmin footage from my recent video where I catch loads of Whiting.
Thanks so much, just bought a Striker 4 and the last thing I wanted to do was drill holes in my new Honwave!! Can you tell/show how you connected the leads to the battery?

Hi David, Yes I am very happy with it so far. It has been perfect for inshore and estuary fishing, and it all folds down and fits in my car boot! See this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QqUn9K7PWzw.html
