I was really looking for a video with the heat pump installation. Not a replacement installation that show's, not much for me, just a removal and replacement. I bought a multi-speed pool motor from Inyo Pools after watching you're installation numerous times so I could handle it my self. I don't need to know about just a change out, but a true install. I'll keep looking and hopefully I'll find a video that you guys did that is just right for me. Your explanations are very easy to follow. Thanks. Tom

I upgraded from the 110,000BTU unit by Hayward but the issue I have is that it is not as straightforward for connecting it to an external control panel, also Hayward. Can you address this and how to connect it to an external control panel? Thanks

HI thanks for sharing this amazing video. I have a question. The owners manual states that you must install a bypass on any system over 3/4 Hp pool pump (Fig. 3 bonding and plumbing step by step installation instructions) Why You guys did not do it???? Thanks so much for your time......

Hello Santiago - The plumbing on this particular pool is more elaborate than the standard pool. There is a bypass for the heat pump but it's located closer to the rest of the equipment. There's a 3-way valve before the heat pump and a check valve on the return side.

Thanks for your quick response!! Is there a problems if I install the heater with out the bypass and 3 way valve?? Just a plain pipe from the filter to the heater and a plain pipe from the heater to the return???

Santiago Bueno - I know this is a delayed reply but wanted to answer for anyone else who has that sane question. It’s always a good idea to install a bypass for many reasons. Without writing a book on reasons, one of the reasons are times you may need to shock you're pool or do extreme chemical changes for pool stains, algae, etc.. There other thing to think about is that it's ideal to run it in bypass mode if you have no plans to use it, it's a big investment and I'm a fan of making there heater last longer. As always, great video from Inyo pools!

I'm shopping for an electric heat pump for my new residential pool and spa. I have solar panels to help with the electric cost. I'm looking at Pentair and Hayward pumps. Can you advise on one over the other? What about compressor noise, is one quieter than the other? I'm looking at the largest sizes available.

I have a Hayward Heat Pump controlled externally. External control board is out of order, so, I tried to set internal control, but it doesn't work. I mean, when recirculating water pump is Off, heater pump continues working and stops by High Pressure Swicht. It seems like flowswitch is either out of order or disable. Please, would you let me know how to configurate Internal control, just to make stop heater pump when recirculating water pump is Off. Thanks in advance...

How do you calculate what size heater you need to simply raise the temperature of a 30,000 gallon pool just 10 degrees? Like from 75 to 85 degrees.

I'm concerned about the discharge of the condensate from the heat pump. Do I need to hook up a condensate drainage line? Where does the condensate go?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools Год назад
Depending upon the "on" time, these can produce a large amount of condensate (up to 20 gallons per day). I'd make accommodations to drain it where you want it to go rather than let it drain where gravity sends it. That might be dictated by local code. I know code in parts of Florida (where we are) for AC condensate is 3 feet from the house foundation. You don't want a constant flow of water going under your foundation.

If you could respond it would be greatly appreciated. Just installed that exact heater and all went well but the fan is vibrating quite a bit. Blades appear fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Installed a Rheem a few years back and it did the same thing. Rheem had me move the fan on the shaft to a prescribed measurement from the base and that fixed the problem . Thanks

When do you recommend a heat pump vs gas heater?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 5 лет назад
If you live in a colder climate and are interested in extending your pool season or simply looking to heat your water fairly quickly, we recommend a pool heater. Also, if you have a pool and spa combination, invest in a pool heater. On the other hand, if the area you live in doesn’t normally drop below 50 degrees F, like Florida, we recommend a heat pump. Heat pumps are great options for pool owners who simply want to keep their pools warmer during their normal swimming season. Check out our blog for more information: www.inyopools.com/Blog/swimming-pool-heater-or-heat-pump/

Inyo Pools Thanks. That helps. I’m in south Michigan but don’t really want to extend the season so much as boost the heat a bit when the sun isn’t sufficient between Memorial Day and Labor Day. I’ll check out your blog.

I understand this is a old question, but since its one of the most common questions. I don’t think there is really any way to truly answer this question 100% generic as it really depends on the needs of the consumer as well as expectations and where they live. First, I really want to say - Inyo Pools answered this question perfectly, as well as it was a very good informative video (and this is coming from a friendly competitor to Inyo pools ‘technically’) I just wanted to add that sometimes depending where you live, gas/electric pricing is a major difference. Florida it’s almost always advised to get a Heat Pump unless you value speed of heating your pool/spa over cost of heating. **IDEALLY** I’d suggest calling a couple companies that sell pool heaters and get some feedback. In my experience, your questions will be answered and those who have true knowledge of pool heating will be ‘apparent’ (that gut feeling you get when you know the answers are lining up). I believe everyone has their own methods of ‘feeling others out’ so I won’t go on and on here.... I’m just a fan of talking to professionals in their field and *not* doing online ‘pool heating size forms’.... like I said first, America is very different depending where you live and your needs/wants are very different - so I recommend both local pool company quotes and national pool business quotes from companies that have been selling to all of America for many, many years.. Thanks for the professional video Inyo!

How do you hook up the Gfci breaker? There is no neutral so what goes in the neutral screw on the Gfci breaker? Does it stay empty?
@richl8438
@richl8438 5 лет назад
You hook it up just like a regular 240V 2-pole breaker. The white pigtail still goes to the neutral bar. The 2 hot legs should cancel each other out in normal operation. In a fault condition, they do not equal, and the GFCI senses this and trips.

is the 60 amp breaker a GFI or is a normal 60 amp circuit ok with this ???

The heat pumps do not currently require GFCI protection. A normal circuit breaker would be ok.

I was wondering why you left the propane heater in place? Doesn’t this replace it? Not questioning the wisdom of that, I was thinking of replacing my propane system with a heat pump and was wondering about your reasoning.
@Inyopools
@Inyopools Год назад
This system had a dual heating setup, a gas heater, and a heat pump. The heater or heat pump would be used according to desired heat rise and the weather. Unfortunately, most heat pumps lose efficiency or cannot operate in ambient temperatures of 60 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

At 5:36 in the video you refer to the unit NOT being connected to any automation. Can you explain what the "automation" would be?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 4 года назад
Automation would be a control box for all of your equipment. The pool lights, heater/heat pump, filter pump, and anything else electrical would be controlled from one central source. This heat pump was connected directly to a breaker panel and not an automation system.

The heat pump does not replace the normal pool pump. It only heats the water. The heat pump does not circulate water.
@harryc6439
@harryc6439 5 лет назад
No. You have plumb the pipes coming out of your filter to the heater and then plumb the heater to the pool return pipe. You can search for "pool heater plumbing diagram" and see a picture but this will be the order... 1. water from the pool to the regular pool pump. (existing layout) 2. Pool pump feeds the filter. (existing layout) 3. Filter feeds the heater. (new plumbing required connecting the filter to the heater) 4. Heater feeds water back into the pool. (new plumbing required connecting the heater to the pool return pipe)

@@patrickoleary3466 I agree that it would make more sense for you to do a NG heater due to your location. A gas heater will work better when the ambient air is cooler. I'm in Florida so a heat pump made more sense for my application. Good luck, Patrick!

Why no heater bypass plumbing?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 3 года назад
This pool had an elaborate plumbing scheme but there was a way to bypass the heat pump. There was a 3-way valve coming out of the filter that you could close and there was a check valve on the return side of the heat pump. The check valve wasn't placed near the return of the heat pump. It was further down the line after it came back up out of the ground.

My spa does not get hot enough what can I do?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 3 года назад
Hello Mimma - There could be several reasons why the spa isn't heating up to the desired level. With it being February, the ambient air may not be warm enough for the heat pump to sufficiently heat the spa. The spa should be covered when it is not being used (solar blanket). That will help retain heat.

@davidmeier8860

Pretty straight forward, but it would have been a lot more helpful to discuss the pool pumps roll in this and if it needs to be wired together and/or need to be running while the heater is in use. I would assume it does, but I missed it if it was mentioned. Thanks for the video.
