A pressure washer and a son or daughter 12-35 years of age feeding wire into the slurry with spool wheel works way way faster and with less hassle . 1-10th the time . The slurry will skeet dirt onto your lawn wich you go back after and rake into place but for the most part the soil resettles on top of the wire without much extra effort run your feed ramp on the wire wheeler about 1.5'' below the slurry and run it backwards so you don't fill the feed hole with slurry muck . It works without needing to rent wire digging tools and it works fast when you get your angle to spray correct. You can do it alone if your talented.
Excellent video, very clear and to the point, thanks! Lots of helpful tips. Also, truly admire your going thru the pain of knowing how bad it must be for our dogs. Very noble thing to do and now I don't need to try it myself! Unfortunately, it's ultimately for their protection.
I'm installing one for a customer. I'm a landscaper, but I've done a lot of outdoor lighting. This video is great, the details are so nice. Thank you very much.
Best video I’ve seen on how to install the fence, I’ve had this dog system for a few years now and as a single women was afraid to tackle it. After watching your video I feel more confident and will begin plotting out the property, going around the garden area was very helpful that was one area I wasn’t sure how to do, thank you for the great video!!! Oh, and my son when he was 7-8 put on the collar jus to see what it was like, hahaha needless to he never tried it again.
I could not stop laughing towards the end when you tested it. Thank you for sharing. This has definitely help me to install my own. Thank you once again.
So sweet your boy was helping. My son is 13 and we have 3 English Labradors on 4 acres in Alaska. We used sport dog fence, but since we moved we need to another system or re use ours but we need new wire.
Thanks for the video on how to install an invisible dog fence. I especially liked how you explain the layout for the different types of yards. This helps me to understand better for my land.
@@DIYJIM Hello, I have a question for you in your personal opinion how would you set this up? I have a small yard roughly 25 x 15 ft and a 4 ft fence that my dog jumps. Where would you set the flags the distance from the fence to where I put the flags? And what number would I set my boundary? So he hears the beat before he jumps the fence? I hope this makes sense. Any help in this matter I would really appreciate thank you.
@@bidenhater9436 I think I would make the boundary a few feet from the fence. Just take your time training the dog I think once he gets shocked for the first time he won’t jump the fence. Not sure what number you should set it on. Hope it works for you
Oh my that was very brave of you. I don't know if I can install this thing myself. It looks complicated and there's no way my husband would cut into our driveway. I'd have to figure out a backyard only set up. But either way, great video, good job , you explained everything very nicely!
Thanks for the video..I have waterfront property...so just to get this straight..I would set the desired perimeter and to allow for water access I double loop 5 ft apart on each side I want to restrict. to create an open area..right
I'm going to be replacing my wire next wknd because I used the cheap 20 gauge that came with the system and I can not find the wire break. First time I did everything by hand, over 1500 ft. @ 62 years old, I'm now 65 and no way can I do it that way again so I am renting the machine and upgrading to 14 gauge wire. Hoping this time the wire outlasts me! Thanks for the informative video, much appreciated!
That whole system made no sense to me. It doesn't stop loose dogs from coming in your yard and causing trouble. The time I installed the invisible fence I used a cable plow on my skid steer. To go under sidewalks and asphalt I used the 1/2 PVC and water to get it in. The inductive loop/twisted pair system used for traffic signals is based on the same principle although it measures current changes based on magnetic fields. It is impressive that your area looks so much better then here, you even have open fields near your home. It has been over 50 years since we had those.
The system works real well for my dog, now she does not go out in the field and roll on dead animals. I thought about trying to go under my driveway but I think there is to much stones, wish I would have planed when I had the driveway done. Thanks for watching The wife is happy
I was thinking of putting the transmitter inside a utility building I have. Bad thing is that it's a metle building 8x10 . Wonder if it would work. Probably not
I will need my perimeter barrier to cross the driveway (so she doesn't get out). Will she get a beep or a shock when we have her in the car and drive across this wire?
What was the PVC conduit you used to tie the wire into the garage through the block? I am just trying to finish the tie in to the garage. Great video I used the same cable machine but we are in PA and the clay was an issue for it.
I can not say 100% But I am going to guess Yes. Maybe just put it on the fence and try it, before you loop in and out. If it seems ok then loop in and out.
I'm in the middle of this project, roughly 3 acres. I've been trenching by hand because I'm not sure how that wire installer will do in pure mud. I have lots of uneven and rough spots. Thoughts on the machine running through mud? Maybe I should rent a disk trencher? This has been a huge challenge, appreciate your thoughts.
I really want to go with the underground fence for my dog but I do get moles from time to time. Do you think moles be able to damage or cut the wire and if so, is there any thing you recommend to protect the wire? Thanks!
I need to cover around 3 acres and was estimating about 1500 feet of wire. My question is with the distance is it necessary to gauge up the wire as you would in electrical work? I was hoping to only use 16 or 18 gauge wire due to cost but not sure if it’s sufficient. Any help is appreciated thanks.
Really not sure if that would mess it up. It does say not to put it near big metal objects in the manual. Sorry I can not answer better. Thanks for watching my video.
So question so after the wire leaves the transmitter that will be twisted how do you turn it into a single wire again? Do you use those orange connectors
My wire is all solid I recommend not using connectors if you can. I show in the video leave the receiver going around my house come back to where I started. Then I twist the wire. I’m going to the receiver.
I think if I understand your question correctly ... First - you must to have a complete loop (so you begin at unit, go around yard and come back into the unit in the second connector) The twisted wire cancels the signal so there is no shock, so places like gates and walkways. So when he exits the garage, each wire will go a different direction. My question is ... Once we start making our way around the property, how do we ... with one single wire ... twist the wire for gates etc that we want them to be able to pass through? Can you just backtrack and lay a triple twist? I know all the fences recommend no breaks or splices .... so curious how that works? i
We back up to woods. What are your thoughts if I go two or three feet into the edge of the woods, but not bury the wire? Do you think a 16 gauge would be okay or should I use a 14 gauge. Also do you think I can just leave the wire on the ground or maybe use some lawn staples to pin the wire down. We live in northeast Ohio we do have bad winter weather. Along with deer, moles, squirrels and chipmunks. Thank you for your helpful video! Now I’m sure my daughter and I can install this fence ourselves!
@@DIYJIM yes but when we twisted the wire are you supposed to connect the twisted wire back to a single wire and continue the loop or connect the whole twisted wire to the transmitter? THANKS!
@@jjeffrey21 twisted wire to the transmitter connect a non twisted wire to the other end of the twisted wire go around your house and back into the twisted wire.
@@DIYJIM I have 2 German short hair pointer one 5 years old female she is good but the boy just turn 1 he is running all over the places he don't give no Fxxx about no one and he run into Tractor trailer one he kno how to stay off the road now but not into neighbors yards that why I am here thanks for the video
Underground fences do NOT work!! They do not protect your dog from other dogs wondering around. Your dog can run through the underground fence and then they can't get back.
Yikes! I certainly wouldn't want to be cutting in-to my concrete driveway! Nothing like introducing water (or ice) in-to the concrete, which we all know ice expands, causing cracking. Suggestion!!!! Never saw-cut your driveway for an installation like this, unless you already plan to replace your driveway within the next few years! That's just Stupid!
Thanks for watching, if my driveway was concrete I would saw cut it anyway so it would crack where I want it to. If you pour one large slab of concrete with no saw cuts you will have cracks were you do not want. Thanks for watching anyway. My black top driveway I seal every other year.
