You can do the same thing for the DuraForce engine Air Vane for the cream style carburetor for the F engine- www.shoplawnbo... Air Vane for the DuraForce engine- www.ebay.com/i...
@lawn boy R8237 Thanks for creating and sharing this seemingly "of the cuff" but still very clear and enjoyable video. And though I watched it in full, as I was here more for the "whole picture", You deserve a special thanks for being so thoughtful as to provide the "timestamp" for those that might only be interested in the "how to part". :) Best regards.
I realized this is a older video. But just rebuilt my lawn boy with the ( cream ) carburetor. Was able to adjust the top RPMs a little faster. It's always been lacking in tall grass. Thanks a million!👍
Thank you for the posting this. I appreciate the detailed explanation on how this all works. I have a duraforce, and have to take apart the carburetor. Needs to be cleaned, and adjust the jetting on it to get rid of the engine surge.
You seem to know a lot about this model Lawnboy, I have the same one an R-8237 s/n 9672811. The only difference is the brass hex nut on top of the carb. My problem is low RPM on the normal setting and the weird thing about it is when I shut off the gas flow the RPM increases substantially (to what it should be) for about 30 seconds until the gas runs out. Any idea thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. I followed your video instructions on setting the vain tension but it didn’t fix the problem. I have broken down the carb completely and cleaned it as well as the exhaust ports. Also cleaned and re-gapped the coil. It starts in 3 pulls.
Very sorry for the late reply, I have seen this before and the issue is actually your float, and needle and seat. The problem is the float is not closing fully and the pressure from the tank is causing the engine to run rich. First thing I would do is adjust the float. Turn the carb upside down and take off the bowl, using 2 pairs of pliers bend the float up. This will cause the float to be lower in the gas level causing the float to close the needle fully. If that does not work replace the needle and seat. Usually just adjusting the float will work.
I had the exact same problem with that little nub on the end of the air vane shaft broke off allowing the air vane to move up and down and be loose. Also found out the air vanes I had on hand, like yours from the other carb would not work. Ordered the correct one from eBay and good to go.
This video was very helpful! I recently converted to the black plastic carburetor with round style collar on my 8401, the air vane broke during shipping, so I had to replace it, even though I have the service manual that goes over how to work on these carburetors, it helped greatly being able to watch a video on how to replace it! Thank you!
Love the straight forward content! Very informative and easy to follow. I have a 5247 that is missing a air vane spring, ill be able to assemble it no problem now! Cheers!
