I've been needing this video for about 6 years now. I did a reno of an attic space after but8ng a new home. I can so anything construction and my knowledge is cast, except in the hvac area..🙄😞. I've been running a PORTABLE AC unit in a space this size with not alot of climate success. This is super helpful to get me off to a good start with unit size, placement, and drainage...👍🏾🫵🏾 da man bro! I love it
1. What is the 3” pvc you ran the drains into? Sewer vent? 2. Surge protector? 3. I paint my lineset covers to closely match the house, unless it’s white. Just a nice touch the customer appreciates and it’s $25-$40 in plastic primer and good paint. 4. Have you installed the floor mount air handlers? I haven’t used them yet but that may have been a good option with such low side walls. 5. The rough in boxes are good, especially where you can push the lines back into the attic when you install the head. They are a pain inside 2 x 4 wall. Good work and good project.
Have you roughed in air handlers (7' off floor) with no exterior wall? Why? 3-zone exchanger covering 3 bedrooms times 2, then a 6 zone, 60k BTU managing the common areas, office, kitchen, laundry, dining of the house. Would you use a rough-in box for the handlers or stick with the regular mounts and run your coolant/control/condensate drain lines to a hole in the wall to install the handlers after the drywall? The lines can be in the attic, but the condensate drains are likely going to flow to the nearest exterior wall or drain common to the bathrooms.
Man if ever there was a better candidate for ceiling mount. Could have done the heads more central and fed your drains down with the bathroom, linesets would have been sweet up top as well. Ugh, I always miss out on good opportunities for ceiling cassettes!
thanks so much for this video! We installed mr slim air handlers and now we have to install a cieling below it but every youtibe video making a cieling is just attaching dry way to studs! what if you dont have studs and you want the dry wall as high as possible? thx!!!
what type of wire does code require for 14/4 wire to the heads ? can it just be rubber cord or does it need to be a type of romax shielded or do i need conduit. I'm putting in 3 ceiling cassettes.
When you install a ducted mini split . Either the air handler or the cassette…. Can you video how to install ? I’m particularly interested in cassette plenum set up . Thank you sir for all your content
Is the drain connected to 3" vent/plumbing drain without a p trap , if my unit was precharged for up to 25ft lines and I installed 50ft line set, how much more 410a would I need to add???
Brother you do a great job. I commented on one of your installs yesterday I think but there is no way I would ever take out ductwork for any mini split unless my ductwork was bad and needed replaced other than that no way one of those you went to mini split looked to be a trane package unit but customers know what they want.
Can the refrigerant lines on a wall mount unit run UP 2 feet the across my attic before going down to condenser? (I plan to run drain inside wall and down of course). 8oct24
Do you have personal specs when mounting your plate on the rough in box ? Or my question would be , if the rough in box comes with dimension for the plate , my supply house has them and I’m just waiting for the opportunity to get them and installs them , seems pretty clean , thank you , Sir appreciate it
We actually put traps on Each 1 of them I failed to show that in This video Hey chris thank you for joining make sure you send me a email tadfuller1@gmail.com
2 consoles are roughly $500 more. Easier lineset and drain runs then if next to the window. Less labor negates the added cost almost. Consoles were the way to go. But wall mounts in that spot definitely the cheapest option.
You missed a double check back flow preventer or what local code requires on drain line you tapped into drain or vent with no trap and or back flow prevention
Hey tad. Ptrap to sewer pipe? Only asking as I didn’t see one. Any chance of sewer gas venting into room through the drains? That’s against code here in South Georgia where I’m from. Great video though.
How close to the top of that knee wall can you put the head? I have a similar attic space in my garage and was going to basically put it all the way at the top of that knee wall since it's not really a ceiling above. The only issue would be having enough room to tip the unit to clip it on to the bracket.
@@TaddyDigest Awesomesauce! Thanks a ton. Liked and subscribed. Also, I just got done reading a bunch of people's opinions on forums that said don't install a mini split below 6'? Is that really a big deal. I'm mostly using mine to heat and I figured the heat would rise and fill the room. Cooling is just a bonus.
@@TaddyDigest well I got the same room and it’s 20x32, that’s including the bathroom on the end, what size mini split you recommend and it’s well insulated
@@markmark8866 did you ever figure it out ? I have the same size room minus the bathroom in a finished attic like the video and I get different answers depending on which online calculator I use
@markmark8866 that's exactly what I was aiming for in my main room at 600ft². Coupled with the other 200ft² room I'm gonna do a 24k btu unit with 2 handlers. I assume your sizing worked out correctly ?
@@TaddyDigestok bc I have a 180 sq foot addition. ( sun room) longer than it is wide but I can’t do it like u wanted here and run it so the air blows front to back. Has to be side to side. 8-10 foot ceilings. I’m thinking of doing 9k btu head with matching outdoor. Just wanted feedback
