How To Install a MX5 Miata Roll Bar (NA and NB)

The complete guide to installing a rollbar in a Mazda MX5 Miata. In this tutorial I go through all the steps to put a bar in your car, from stripping the vehicle to modifying it to fit the bar to reassembly and trim. The bar I installed is a Boss Frog Clearview Double Diagonal Bar, but it should be the same process for Hard Dog bars. That is the most complete set of instructions on RU-vid. I really liked when you gave the dimensions of the tools, vs. running back and forth from car to bench trying to figure it out. I especially love when a car has BOTH standard and metric sizes. Outsourcing, I would imagine.

I'm picking up a rollbar tomorrow and I'm going to be using this video as a guide. This is the 4th miata I've owned, but the first one without a rollbar. All of my other 3 have came with rollbars already installed, I didn't get lucky this time around lmao.

Thank you for the video. Did you end up doing one for the stock seat belts? I’m installing g the same one, but trying to keep the stock seat belts. Is it just a mater if shoving in the belt behind the bar, and taking apart the top bolt to accommodate the bar?

Awesome video! Short and fast but still has all the necessary info, perfect! Question; How much room does the back of your head has when you but the seat back all the way? I pretty tall so I have my seat against the back panel and I really wonder if my head would will hit the rollbar

+MiataMods thanks bud! Sadly there isn't a ton of room with the seat all the way back, your head does end up really close to the bar. There are taller roll bars and you always could try and lower the seat to give you a little more room

Can you have the stock seatbelts on with that roll cage? And where and for how much can I get one like yours I have a 2001 miata mx5 convertible??

+Edwin Figueroa yes you can, there are adapters which you can use to run them. And I got mine used for $300 off of craigslist but for a new one look on boss frog's website, it'll be a good amount more than $300 though.

+TremblerBody - Norsk Gaming You can easily fit the soft top over the bar, I haven't tired a hard top though because I don't have one. This also depends on what bar you get, some work with hard tops, some don't

Would you by chance know where I can get spare spacers for the top seat belt mount? The previous owner left the seatbelt slide sandwiches under the tab for the new seat belt location so the belts get stuck-_-

I'm actually not in Cali haha, we just have that plate on until it gets registered because it's got our name on it. Sorry I can't really help you with that, good luck!

I bought it, it's a boss frog, double diagonal clear view bar. This specific company just went out of business but there are other brands out there (hard dog).

You need to remove them to get access for the mounting plates, as shown around 5:07

Is it possible to put the soft top up/keep the soft top on with this roll bar? I plan on DD'ing an NA with this roll bar installed because it looks cool and itll not kill me

Yes, you could use the soft top as normal (mine has a glass window and still works) or a hard top. Some bars are too high though so definitely research the bar before you buy it. This is a boss frog clearview double diagonal bar. Good luck!
