Dude, you saved me. I was just about ready to give up and take my truck to a professional but with your clear, easy to follow directions I was finally able to wire everything my self. Thank you so much for posting your video.
Thank you so much!! I was sold the wrong harness for my honda civic, and out of frustration I randomly decided that I had innate knowledge of wiring harnesses and lopped off the factory harness to hard wire the after market harness onto it. After 3 hours of fiddling and soldering the wrong wires together, I gave up and closed up the garage and hopped on youtube to find this video. The next morning I ran to the nearest hardware store, and got everything wired and setup in an hour. 10/10 would recommend everybody watch this video. Even if you're not wiring a stereo. Like if you're on the toilet and plan on staring at a wall mindlessly for the next 2 hours, i'd recommend you watch this video while you're doing that.
You, Sir, are a STAR!! Took out the original factory-fitted radio and was baffled by the number of wires that such a simple piece of kit had. Looked like hundreds of white wires into four different connecter blocks.....what are they all for? Watched your beautifully made video and it all became crystal clear. Made the impossible EASY! Many many thanks.
2017 tutorial still getting mad love....Maybe one of the most positive comments I've aver seen on a video. That's what RU-vid should've been all about...lol. Exemplary!
This video is a little old, but an absolute lifesaver. My new to me truck has a cut wiring harness, and after watching this video and using a multimeter I was able to get everything working! Thank you!!!
Soldering and marine heat shrink then wrap makes for a much more reliable wire connection over crimps plus a nice smooth harness when finished. Marine heat shrink has a waterproof glue inside and you get a nice sealed joint every time. Apart from that a great presentation by this guy.
Wow... U Are Very Good At This.. U Taught Me A Few Things I Was Never Shown or Explained.. I've putting together a few stereos my lifetime but I got stuck on a Modern Top of The Line Touch-Screen, BLUETOOTH, Reverse Camera etc etc Stereo and I Got Nothing, No Power, Lights...Nothing... But U Helped Me CLEARLY What I Was Doing WRONG, Now I Can FINALLY Hook Up My Stereo That Was A Birthday Gift... A YEAR AGO Sept. 2020, I Know What I'm Doing THIS WEEKEND!! THANK U THANK U SO MUCH!! GOD BLESS YOU, And -- CHEERS!!! -- -Josh A. Cyr (From Maine)
Sir ...this is a PERFECT Video. (no BS) Absolute perfection. Calm, Clearly Explained, Tools required , ... Even safety woes "fuses"........ . WoW Just Knowledge past on, Thank you. Subbed.
It's the only proper "How to install" video on youtube, with lots of information. Every other tutorial on youtube is just connecting two adapters to each other and that's it. But this one is actually useful. :)
I struggled for two days trying to install a new BT JVC head unit into my 2005 Elantra and even took the head unit to a radio installer for help but even after offering to pay for their time they just wanted the car and the job so I gave up. The problem was the plug on the end of the harness just would not budge so I cut the factory wires and just tried to connect using the details on the old head unit and the new one but just could not get it to power up. I had checked the under bonnet fuse and the under dash fuse for radio and both were fine. This video recommended using a light up probe which I purchased at Supercheap for $10. Still no power then when I listened to the instructions again the fuse that controls the interior light was mentioned and when I checked it was blown and all of a sudden light on the roof and power into the head unit. The rest was easy. Great advice, saved probably $150 to $200 because they would have found a thousand reasons to justify the charge so very happy with result and have now subscribed..Grant Tasmania Aust
Thank you sir. Had my van into the shop to supply and fit a new head unit as the previous owner butchered the wiring. They were unable to fit it and told me to try elsewhere. I watched your video to see how it's done and managed to wire it in myself! Thank you very much.
Thank god for the rare person like yourself teaching people real information, with real relevant knowledge of the subject. I realize as a beginner or when doing a DIY install for the first time you can make mistakes. I just wish those people would stop making how-to videos. ✌
Excellent in depth instructions, great job! That said I would strongly recommend to folks watching this who don't have a wiring harness to just get a wiring harness for your vehicle! If you ever want to upgrade later you will thank yourself. Not to mention any future owners of the vehicle. I get that you may not care about the next person but I can say from experience that one of the worst feelings is going to upgrade or install a radio in a used vehicle is looking in and seeing a wiring harness that's chopped to oblivion , usually with far too little wires remaining. It makes any install at least twice as difficult and 5x as aggravating. Only use this method if it's the only option, I wish the video at least made that disclaimer.
I spent 3 days bro 3 days tryna find a good video, this one teaches more!! The only trouble that I couldn’t understand is the speakers but the rest was easy to understand
Hello. Thanks for this video, it is very good! I followed all steps but I'm not getting any sound on m speakers. I tested the wires using a 9v battery as you showed but nothing happens. The installation is on a western star truck model 4964 year 2006. Do you have any idea of what could be happening? There's no color coding on the wires and the Sony unit I'm installing is working fine! Thanks.
Sounds like you may have a factory amplifier in your car.. What is the year make a model? If you have a factory amp you will need to bypass it or still use it but sometimes you have to have a special interface to make it work or really understand some advanced electrical stuff to make it work..
My install turned out to be easier than I thought since the old radio had a chart on it detailing what every wire was and all I had to do is match to the new radio wiring. I used heat shrink connectors which have a small metal collar in the center that is squeezed and results in a smaller bundle of wires rather than the white crimp cap type. From Amazon also the Kenwood radio caught it on Black Friday sale. Yea! Thanks to this video for heading me in the right direction.
XStream-Couldn't have said it better. Very clear and concise in its instruction and demonstration. Would recommend this tutorial to anyone wanting to install their own stereo without the use of a harness.
hi my name is Judesh from South AFrica. I have a ford KA 2005 model and i followed the same process here. It worked 100% thank you so much God bless you for this video
Wow I've watched so many videos and you have walked me through step by step like I see the guy wrote below me it was so professional and so amazing step by step you have a new big fan I love to do and fix things myself and love when somebody else teaches and takes the time to show others unfortunately my ex-boyfriend broke and ripped apart my radio system which I have been so heartbroken over I thank you so very much for walking me through step by step I'm very handy and I love being handy and this one is really stumped me I've never put a serious system together or had to fix one with the wiring and so forth and you are basically like a teacher amazing thank you so much can't wait to see what else you have and definitely subscribing also it's wonderful to see men out there willing to take the time where other young men will see this and it will help encourage them and keep pushing them along to be handy thank you again so much and God bless
This is exactly the methodical procedure I needed to figure out the OEM wiring on my tractor. Like an idiot, I cut the factory harness off because i could not get an appropriate adapter for my new deck. Then I forgot which wires were which, and blew the fuses several times by trial and complete error. Thanks.
Dude you are unbelievable 😊 I am kind of person who is rarely to put a comment :-| on RU-vid videos But, after this video I would like to break my commentary virginity and give you a huge like for that job In addition, I was all the time wondering why radio manufacturers use all these wires ?? ... but, now I am completely got it :) Thanks again for that easy explanation You deserve a medal 🥇
8.39 mins in thank u solved an issue I couldn't get my head around massive light bulb moment. Really appreciate your content on here 👍🏽you really helped me when I just couldn't figure out why when turning the key on one wire would be on and the other off. My mate was so happy his sounds were working after buying a car with no function sounds in his car #nzpolywiringhissoundz #youtubetutorials #selftaught 🙌🙌🙌
Oh god, I seen the title to the video. It reminded me of my first install in 93. I was 13 and just bought my first car. My parents bought me a stereo for it. I jumped right in tore the dash off and chopped the harness right out of it. I learned a few things that day. I learned you never cut your harness and I learned how to use a ohms meter. 😂🤣
Mate this is brilliant thank you. Been wanting to install a modern cd player on my 1984 Rover SD1 and the wiring scared the hell out of me. Now feel confident in doing it.
Thank you for the best informative video!!! Thanks to you I got my stereo connected and it's up an running... Went from going nowhere in 2 days to getting everything done and running within an hour.. Thank you!!
excellent video , I figured out the speaker wires on my Eclipse but the power wires gave me some grief. The logic used with the test lamp made it as clear as a bell for me thank you. 2000 Eclipse and the wiring colours did not match the standard colours now (red stripe for positive in pairs nightmare but I managed to figure them out. Thanks once again great video !!!
Thank you so much for the fine video and easy to follow instructions. I am hard of hearing (totally deaf in my right ear and have 40% hearing in my left) and the trick with the 9 volt battery for the speakers really helped. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
I always found wiring to be my least favorite but just got a touchscreen with car play for my 92 F150. After watching this I think I’m going to give it a shot!
Thanks, just what i needed to see. I've looked at almost hundred videos, and this is exectly the one i've been looking for.... Only one thing, which one is the antenna wire? THANKS!!!
Awesome thank you I couldn't find a speaker wire diagram for my ranger I've installed CD players in all my vehicles full systems and I didnt want to waste my time trying to find the wire diagram for hrs lol thank you man great video
I really appreciate this video. I’ve been trying for about a week to install my sons stereo without all the right plugs because the truck he bought didn’t have any. Watched so many other videos but couldn’t get anything to work properly. Big thumbs up. Thank you
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL I just bought an all singing all dancing bluetooth GPS cell phone doo hickey with no adaptor just the plug that goes into the head unit and bare wires!
Great video....I needed to watch this because I have a problem with parasitic drain when I connect with the harness plug. I believe it's the ground wire because it's a common problem with it. Can I just ground the wire to a metal part of the dash that's a good ground, indicated by the test light?
One of the greatest well explained video i did install mine but I think my old cable from the battery not well connected.. question if I run a new cable to the battery which post - or + ??
I have warch many vedio of intallation bt thise1 u made it clear nd easy to understand ,,,I jst wished u used the multi meter the common 1 naver come across thise one bt vedio is nice to warc
Very helpful tutorial. You did a great job of showing how to connect the wires, but I still need more info. I was able to get a harness for connecting my radio and the radio comes on, the dimmer works when the lights are on, things seem to be ok but I'm not getting any radio sound to any of the speakers. This is on a 2011 kia forte sedan. I can't find anything to show the wiring diagram for the wiring in the dash panel. I will review more of your videos and hopefully learn how to get this done. I also have steering wheel controls and backup camera to do. lots of loose wires in the dash to identify. The radio kit has more connectors to find wires for. Thank you very much for your videos.
This is completely fine for most vehicle under 2003 , if you have a newer vehicle I would recommend not hardwiring your harness, if your vehicle calls for a harness such as gmos-01 etc then you should definitely not hard wire it. If your vehicle calls for a fancy harness then that means the stereo runs through the computer of the car and if you hardwire it then your using your vehicle computer as a fuse for the stereo, that is not good, On 2nd note if you Google search the year make and model of your vehicle with the following (stereo wiring diagram) and it will tell you what every wire is
Ive been watching vids and reading diagrams for almost 5 hours and im more confused now than when i started.. 15 minute with brian and $$$$. You sir are THE MAN.. Ty.
HOLY CRAP!!! this is the best "video quality" that i have seen, and its in 720p60 HD. but my question... Why do you NOT solder & shrink tube the wires. It has a more professional look VS white (or) butt connector look? Great videos
Dude for real your awesome. one question I connected the constant positive and negative and my radio turned on then couple seconds screen just went black any advice
I installed a radio from my old car into my new old car without cutting any wires. I just unpinned the wire prongs from the old wire harness adapter and stuck each pin into the correct slot on the car's plug. Then taped the shit out of it. It's a work car so I'm not too worried about how it looks plus it worked.
