Here is an in depth video on how to install a residential HVAC Mini Split inside your RV. There have been many that have installed one on the back or side of their motor homes. This one is for those that wish to go the extra mile and live that #rvlife.

It looks like that RV once had basement A/C. Going by the louvered panel at the back end. Old RV's with basement A/C often get roof A/C to replace. I think the basement A/C may still work, but gets all clogged up so the fans don't work.

For extending boondocking time have you considered installing a grey water to flush system to conserve fresh water? Direct galley water to black tank and divert grey water to toilet flush. Needs pump, three way valves and backflow valves.

We have not done this . We have looked at collecting rainwater for use as directing to grey etc but to date have not needed it . We typically only go for about a week max and can stretch it if we conserve

Might I suggest using the EG4 Solar Mini-split? It came with 4 PV panels that could be mounted on the roof. It can run all day on solar and all night on 120VAC if you want it to. Everything else is about the same except the lines are precharged for a DIY job. Mine comes on in the early morning with just the fan and may quit on low power if cloudy or shaded, but you restart the unit and go to AC. This also heats in the winter. Less than $2400.00. I use it to supplement my central AC in my house and only have it connected to the solar panels.

Im at the beginning stage of this but im putting in on 24k btu unit. My head unit is bigger than yours, that's where im stuck now but you gave me some ideas. I was going to pull out two rows of storage but i think ill just cut one open like you did. Thanks I'm watching to see the part 2 as I want to run on solar too. Also to see how you set up the electrical. I already have a 50 amp breaker from my worn out basement air.

I have the same thoughts on solar & a mini split that cools & heats. I've actually seen a video from about 5 years ago, around 2019, where they installed a mini split but ran it off electric only. I plan to install a couple of Fantastic fans as well. I want to be able to Boondock as well, so I plan to switch to a composting toilet, getting rid of the black tank & adding an additional potable water tank. To hopefully allow me to Boondock for up to 2 weeks at a time. I'll be watching your videos to learn through your transition. Many thanks for sharing.

Thanks! It looks better now. I trimmed it out a little better. Still works great. The front head unit works better than the rear as the front btu rating was higher … but you can individually set the temps so it’s fine.

I intend on boondocking with a Class A. I want to install an Incinolet incinerating toilet that uses NO water. Flushing uses way too much water, IMO.

Just put one in my Grand villa yesterday! It works so well and it's virtually silent. Wish I seen this before. I may have put in the propane tank bay instead of the nose. Everything on the coach is electric now except the stove, so propane tank should prob go!

We use a 110 electric induction cooktop… and a ninja foodie oven for when we need it. Propane… is gone.

If you seal off the front blower to the exit hole, it will be more efficient and suck air through the back. But the back will need a way to draw air in from somewhere else, maybe the bottom. You don't want the hot exhaust being pulled back into the back.

Your words are correct. We have sealed off the front blower so it only expels the air out the side. It only draws it from underneath now. This has improved efficiency.

Yes. 👍 it is not as easy as a free standing one, but the front comes off and 4 bolts allow it to lower down and pull out . We left enough slack in lines for some play. Hope to not need much for a bit.

Luv ur RIG! The white cabinets really pop! I purchased the same Foretravel it’s a 1998 U270 36 FT. Question - how come you did two mini splits? Why didn’t you just do one Mini split with dual head mounts in the Rig. I’m thinking I want to buy one mini split with Dual Head Mounts in the Rig to save space.

That… is exactly what we did. One main unit with 2 heads. One mounted at front and second in bedroom!

How is the MiniSplit setup holding up? Is there anything different you wud do regarding the MiniSplit Setup? Did you install BattleBorn Batteries?

@@Fitzgerald102 we did go with battleborn batteries and installed them in a rack underneath. I will be posting that video after a bit . Went with 10 100 amp hour batteries 🔋. Tied them in pairs to make 500 amp hour on a 24 volt system

We considered a lot of things. The problem is you have line sets (that could easily be put anywhere … roof etc and that was the initial thought). Head units still have to drain though. So you can’t run that up hill. We also wanted to try and hide everything to keep it as clean as possible. Easiest thing would have been to mount the main unit on the back and punch through to the inside… but I like a challenging:-)

I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Thank you for all of the footage. I’m thinking about mounting my head unit under my couch. The side of the couch where the air would blow out from is removable. My question to you is did you think about mounting yours lower? At the end of the day you did a great job!

Esthetics mainly…. I didn’t like how outdoor ones looked. Plus… nobody is stealing this one ☝️. Ha. Truth be told. If I were to do it again…. It would be 100 times easier to mount it outside. But I like how it turned out

Great video, but I'm a little confused. Did you find a two zone mini split that runs on 110, or do you somehow have 220 in your rig? In all my searching, I've never found a multizone that runs on 110...

We switched the coach over to have the capability to run 220v. It wasn’t extremely hard, but it does involve needing to swap a few parts. Namely the inverter. We went with an AIMS 6000 watt inverter as we were hooking up a battery system to run 24v for faster charging using the solar array. …. Ok… so maybe it is a little more complicated than i originally stated, but it is doable and there are several resources online and I recorded several of the steps on our Chanel. We beefed up the system and had it run on the 220 due to the fact that it is our heat source (via heat pump that runs down to -22) and needed that since we removed the propane as a heat source.

You can use a seawater reverse osmosis setup to turn grey water into pure water. Then your water is almost unlimited! The other option is to use a dehumidifier to generate water.

@@TheHappyHootie They're not that expensive using DIY. The water is so clean that is better than tap water. It can't just be the normal residential Reverse Osmosis filters which are not rated for salt water. It's extremely difficult to remove salt and we're talking on the oder of 100 to 1000 times smaller than normal water filters. You lose some water to the black tank, but that can be made up from an atmospheric condenser. This means you have unlimited water for washing, showering, and drinking.

Does it void warranty to be installed inside? I was hoping you’d talk about limitations or possible issues that can happen for installing it in the bay.

I would venture a guess that somewhere in the warranty on most of these mini splits that it voids the warranty by putting it on a moving vehicle instead of a house. I could be wrong. Your main issue for installing in the bay is air flow. As long as you can expel the bad air or output air and have flow from underneath or behind to suck fresh air in…. You should be good. One issue we had initially is the expelled air was recirculating back into the bay causing decreased efficiency. Solved this by putting shielding in place to only allow expelled air to flow out instead of back in. Works better now

I am doing similar install very scared about cutting the door out to provide ventilation. What tool blades etc did you use and anything you would do different with your experience in doing this installation?

Parts 2 and 3 are both on the channel. Works great. Better after we built the air dam to prevent the air from recirculating… but works well under drive and parked

Do you know how many watts it’s pulling when running? I’m considering doing an “inside install” on a stepvan but worried I’ll get enough airflow across the unit.

Airflow is fine, As for the watts... it depends. It is a variable speed unit with a heat pump. It depends on the outside weather, and if you are running the heat pump or AC. One head unit, ... or both... really too many variables. I would say anywhere from 1000-4000 depending on weather and load.

As of 3 years ago when the video was originally done on our other channel… I had a tough time finding one that put it INSIDE a bay. There were tons that mounted to the outside. Becoming more common place now. Thanks for the thumbs up!

We had another channel and yes… about 2 years ago I posted it. It was removed from our other channel and we are starting it up here. All of our solar, battery, mods, etc… will all be here.
