Why not sell “bunker starter kit” bundles? Like a door, air filtration system, escape door all together for slightly less then buying them all separately?
@fabr5747
@fabr5747 9 месяцев назад
Because 1 door is useless, you need 2 doors to form a sas. Escape doors don't exist in Swiss bunkers. And the most important is that you need an engineer to build it. You will build this underground. Depending on the ground conditions, the way you build it is not the same. And most important, you need structural reinforcements in the concrete walls, random people won't be able to do it well. And then, you need highly specialised machines to inject a mortar beterrn the walls, and between the walls and the slab once the building is done and has sunk in its final position. This sealant is injected at a very high pressure. If you do one part a tiny bit wrong, it's over, your bunker is unsafe and useless. Plus, imagine the liability on it. And just making the concrete for the door would be a problem... 90% of the people would make a random concrete receipe, not following the resistance recommended in Switzerland. They would add way too much water, they would not vibrate the concrete, etc... That's a dangerous idea. Definitely not a DIY project if the guy selling these products is serious.

This door is not a door for a safe. These doors are easy to open, they are just heavy, there is no locking with a key. These are used in Switzerland for bunkers or nuclear bomb shelters. That's one of the many elements composing a bomb shelter in Switzerland. You include 2 doors to form a sas. There are air filters to renew the air and purify it, there are many structural requirements to withhold the expected requirements of it. There is sealant required between the walls and the slab above, etc... It's not an anti burglar door, and not an anti-shooting door. We are not in the USA. Other solutions are required to solve those different problems. Those doors are similar to what you'd find in military bunkers.

If I ever were to build a house I would install one of these in my basement if I had the money
@fabr5747
@fabr5747 9 месяцев назад
The door itself is just part of it. If you want this, look at how they are built in Switzerland... The resistance required of the slab above, the air filters, and also TWO doors. We have 2 doors, there is always a sas with 2 doors with something like a 1.5 meters. This wall is just the very begginning of the bunker. Then, between the various walls, between the walls and the slab, there are tubes that are installed during the construction. Once the construction is over, and the building is sinking in the soil and moving, the entrepreneur comes and injects a mortar like product at very high pressure, and it seals the joints between each structure element that was not built in one part.

@jonsmitt9769
@jonsmitt9769 2 года назад
He answered in another comment. Because it’s a blast door it needs the frame to prevent it from falling into the room. If it swung in, the hinges and locks wouldn’t be enough. Should have some folding cover over the hinges to prevent cutting. Or have a dedicated security door. My preference would be security doors as blasts are extremely unlikely in my rural setting. If you’re really want blast protection a lot of WW2 bunkers have the door to the room at 90° to a hallway which has access at each end. If a bomb lands near either access the blast travels down the hallway and vents out the far access without exerting much pressure on the door. This 2nd access also allowed them to get out if the 1st was caved in. Few had escape tunnels.
@harrymu148
@harrymu148 5 месяцев назад
I think the door is bigger than the frame so that it can take the blast and transfer that to the walls. The reverse means that only those two metal tabs actually hold it on, and a good blast would shear those clean off.

What about the right hinges in these doors and the anti-weight system? Such a door weighs a lot, and for example, a wife or childrens can seriously damage themselves if carelessly use this.

@fabr5747
@fabr5747 9 месяцев назад
So the wife and kids are stupid? This kind of door remains open 100% of the time, and no one touches it until the day it is needed. These doors are designed for the day when a nuclear explosion occurs, 2 per bunker, with a sas in between, and many regulations to follow to build it properly. These shelters are build within the home, in a cellar. All homes in Switzerland have a cellar with this (not mandatory anymore for few years, but still being built). So no one touches them, it's not a game !

Ron, I've seen a lot of documentaries on between two world wars era fortifications and all of them bunkers had this very thin layer of metal [couple mm] from the inside of bunker so if enemy artillery scores a direct hit on bunker walls that thin layer of metal will prevent small pieces of concrete frpm breaking off on internal side of wall and wounding or killing people inside. I've recently also seen that in latest russian tanks armor [I think T-14 Armata or T-90] but instead of thin metal layer they use somekind of material. Do you think it's a good idea to apply this solution to bunkers? Look at Ukraine, shellings, rockets. It may be worth it. What do you think ol' pilgrim to Holy Land?
@guytech7310
@guytech7310 2 года назад
Are you referring to anti-spalling materials? A bunker door down a stairwell likely isn't going to come under small arms, RPG or artillery fire since its underground in a stairwell. I think the more likely way an attacker seeing entry would plug up the air pipes above if they know the location of the bunker. Not sure how well an anti-spalling layer will stand up to a shape charge placed on the door. I believe tanks use layers of kevlar to catch the fragments if a round pentrates of causes spalling inside.

why not weld a steel plate on each side ?
@fabr5747
@fabr5747 9 месяцев назад
Because it's useless? It's expensive? Because all the cellars in Switzerland are built in concrete, so this is one additional concrete element inside the cellar to enter the shelter. Because the bomb shelters are all made of concrete (concrete foundations, concrete walls, slab above in concrete). In Switzerland, things are engineered, not designed. There is someone who made calculations for the appropriate thickness of concrete needed. Concrete doesn't corrode. Steel does. So absolutely useless.

I'm guessing its that when it's vertical, the bubbles are squashed out harder because there's more height of concrete on top squishing it.

What I would like to know is how your blast valves on the air intakes and exhausts would work with the new Thermobaric ordinance that Russia is employing in the Ukrain? The initial blast wave would close the ports but the ensuing fireball of the fuel air mixture burns all of the oxygen in the air creating a massive vacum. These are similar ordinance to the US made MOAB's, one was used to clear out cave inhabited by Taliban. In Afganistan. Is there a valve available that would pull shut as well when a vacume is created by these types of weapons?

my only problem with these doors is that the hinge and door sits on the OUTSIDE, you can only use it as a blast door not a "bunker" door, if a blast goes off and debris on the outside of the structure falls in front of the door you cannot open it. If someone comes to get in but you're locked inside, they simply cut the hinges off. is there a reason they are built this way and not like a normal door/door frame? Big heavy door frame made out of 12" C channel, 10" thick door that sits on the inside with the hinges on the occupant side of the door so it swings inwards in case there's something in front of the door? It also sits 2" in from the edge of the door frame to help with debris

listen people if someone can survive on the surface to fuk with your vent pipes or attempt to remove your blast door then you can survive up there too so have a defense force on the surface rotate on shifts. also you can't just cut the hinges on an out swung security door to gain entry they are affixed to the frame when in the closed position all cutting the hinges would do is place the 3000lbs on the ground increasing its resistance to opening
