The Standard Tie Rods on a 82 Porsche 911SC are kind of a joke compared to these Turbo models. The stock tie rod ends actuall are mounted into a rubber bushing in a bottom shock eye mount...They moved all over the place in my car with 123K miles on it... Now there is like no play in them...Kind of a dog of a job...but the end result was well worth it...

Its much easier if you loosen the locking ring nut and unscrew the tie rods by hand. But the way you did it is much more amusing! Thanks for the video

Thanks for creating this video, I'm about to embark on this project myself so it is much appreciated.

great watching someone else fighting the tie rod install, I did one side yesterday and have been looking all morning to find an easier way to do the other side. I have an extra 32mm wrench I think im going to grind down to tighten the new one down.. had not heard about putting the lock tight or rip ties on. thanks

If you’d have looked at the threads on the new rods you would have seen which way the threads ran to turn in the correct direction.

To install the boot you don't have to slid it over the entire tie rod, just the lip of the ball joint at the steering rack end. He fed the entire tie rod through it, which accomplishes the same thing, but is not necessary. In the end he still had to stretch it over the lip. Penetrating oil is a Porsche mechanics friend. Allocate time for penetrating oil penetration... I'm talking days depending on what part you are removing. In this case, cut theold boot off, spray threads and let soak for a while.

I'm about to do this on my 69' 912. Hope my luck is as good as yours in that I don't strip anything off in the steering rack (fingers crossed...). Did you use PB Blaster or anything like that?

You can use a wrench that is made for bicycle work.

Do you mean a lockring wrench fits on the part that's stuck at the rack end? www.internet-bikes.com/producten/original/ice_toolz_lockring_sleutel_11h1_65469.jpg

this is suppose to be a tutorial on how to replace a porsche 911 tie rod and while working on it, he says, "i wonder if i'm turning it the right way!" are you sure you know what you're doing sir? here's a piece of unsolicited advice, you might want to practice more prior to coming up with a "how to" video! you might want to rename the title of your video to, "i'm going to attempt to replace the stock tie rods on my porsche 911 with turbo tie rods..."
