Dude. THANK YOU. I went through dozens of videos before this one where I swear the person was TRYING to confuse me. Haha. This was so clear and shot perfectly. (Borat voice) VERY EXCITE!
Man, simply put, thank you! This video and description gave me everything I needed to get the correct components to install a new head unit in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Additionally you provided all the info needed for the adapters and kits to complete the install.... R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R! Clear, concise, & to the 👉! THANK YOU 🙏
Thanks for this video. I was having a short in my radio. Sometimes it would play and sometimes not. I used your video to help me get my radio out. Thanks a lot you saved me money by watching and using your video.
This is old. I just updated my 2016 Jeep with an android v12 . It was truly plug-and-play and extremely easy and more professional looking. A lot has changed in 5 years
Which is the old way . Great Android Head units are relatively easy to do for a DIY, Very cost effective, and have a very good screen for viewing. That’s the modern way
I'm glad you posted this video. Basic techniques that can never be talked about enough. With the internet and everything today, you think you would pull a radio out of a car and it would look normal LOL. Nope. Even with all this knowledge right there in front of people we still fine cluster bombs behind the dash! By the way, I love your new backdrop and display. It's awesome that you spent the time to do that. Image does matter plus it shows off your passion. Happy New Year Mark and I'm so looking forward to 2018!
This post helped immensely. The only thing I ran into that was a problem was the CH1 has a control cable that is jeep wrangler specific. I didn't see that. Once I hooked it up everything worked great. The other small issue was the metal support piece that is surrounding the stock head unit. That needs to go for the new double din to fit. Otherwise you covered everything!
Can you explain to me what cable this is? I have done the entire wiring harness and didn’t want to maestro because I don’t care about steering wheel controls so can I use it without that?
If youre having an issue where you can see into the dash from the bottom of the radio you can trim 1/8th inch off in the inside top and bottom lip of the kit that touches the front sides of the radio. Helps a ton on the radios that don't have a motorized screen as they sit much further out.
Excellent dude. I'm about to do up my Jeep. Just need a new head unit that I'm about to order and then I'm putting it all together. I'll send you some pics via instagram when done. So excited to get all this stuff done!
In the beginning I was like... YEAH I GOT THIS.... 1 min in i was like nah... going to pay someone to do it! lol Same Jeep tho.. so maybe ill give it a shot. stay tuned for my foul ups lol
Wow! Great video ... I've got a 2017 Sport that I want to keep after the lease ends (yea, yea, I know ... but I love the car) ... only drawback is the awful uconnect system. Every Wrangler dealer told there's NO way to put in an aftermarket system ... gotta say the Chrysler dealerships are the worst I've ever dealt with and I've bought everything from Hondas to BMWs over the years. Thanks for a great vid!
Just an exercice: I challenge Mark and Doug to make all these steps on a 2014 Ford Fusion. Using a Alpine- X009-U ( universal restyle headunit)+ maestro+ everything and retain all funciontions of climate control , etc. To Doug, to be easily, instal a galaxy view or ipad pro with the same sony headunit he used on his f150 and preserve all functions using or not all maestro tools. I doubt that! Here in Brazil is almost impossible because is too difficult to have access to all the stuff I´ll need. To do a Real upgrade on a Ford Fusion is almost impossible. Great work Mark!! Success in 2018!!!
Hey Mark, thanks for this video! I have a Jeep JK and will follow this for my own install. One question: Could you say more about how you wired in the remote wire to the amps? I see the thicker blue wire connected to the harness, but you don’t mention the process in the tutorial. Would love to see how you connect the remote wire to the deck and then to the amp(s). Thanks!
Great video. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler (no factory AMP) and replacing radio with a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX using a Maestro harness. I get everything to work except no sound from speakers. Can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks
I know how you feel about Chinese Android headunits and I want to see a video about the ATOTO S8 Premium (flagship). It's got a *good* dsp and some really great features, you should make a video about it.
If I don’t want to use the maestro, will the t-harness still work for my radio? Don’t have the money for everything right now, so I want to do everything slowly.
Thank Mark for a great video. I installed a pioneer unit on my JK last year .everything works great however, every now and then i hear a loud pop in the sub woofer with a sudden loss of sound for 1 second then everything goes back to normal.. cant figure our why..
Serious question: if you have no desire to use Uconnect (I removed it as a feature when loading the Maestro firmware), do you need to put the box back into the console? Also, thanks for showing that trick to run the cable to that adapter so you can use the USB connection inside your armrest box! Finally, do you know of anyone who has a video on modifying the metal bracket you took out? It's a pretty handy piece that I think is needed, especially to stabilize the top of the dash, and to allow me to put a mount back in place.
I just want to confirm that you did reinstall the uConnect module w/o the usb and secondly were you able to use the factory microphone or did you have to install the microphone that came with the pioneer head unit?
I am wondering the same thing. I just installed a Pioneer AVH1550NEX and the microphone isn't working. Also wondering about Sirius satellite connections. Thanks
Super super beginner. The harness purchased separately has an adapter where on your video the wires are exposed and ready to solder. Can I just cut the plug off and splice wires together as shown?
Great info!! I do have two problems with my radio though… 1 out of 4 times, the unit starts with no sound!!! And the harness I found only sends 2 channels of sound so L+R are hooked up on Rear and front at the same time!! Any advice!?
Hey Mark did you install the Bluetooth microphone that comes with the pioneer headunit? I’m going to be installing a Kenwood DMX 7704s in my 2013 silverado using an idatalink maestro but I’m not sure if the factory Bluetooth mic will work or do i have to use what came with the new headunit.
Tell me you fixed the gap on the sides of the radio. Pioneer did the last few years of touchscreen radios very thin. We trim the corners on the kit to side the brackets just little further back and it hides the gaps a little better.
I installed mine but, when I turn the key to acc, the unit turns on, and when I fully turn the key to turn the jeep to run, the unit turns off (looses power) and then boots up again as the jeep starts. I see the logic in this but the unit turns off as it's loading (in the acc stage) and then has to power up/load all over again once the jeep is on. I can't help but think that over time, this has damaged the unit. I absolutely HATE mine. Excellent video, though!
i am confused about 13 mins in. you talk about the u connect, you show how to take it out. you explain about the port that goes to the arm rest. you say you will plug it back in but do not show where, you went straight to that section all butted up and just the top part for the radio. The one adaptor to the left, that you say goes to the arm rest, is that the usb end at the top when you talk about how you bundled items together? what did you do with the Uconnect port? is it just hanging out in there or did it get connected to something else?
My uConnect is malfunctioning and I can't even see what phones were paired. If I can't access it to delete the phones, what will that do when I flash the Maestro unit? Will my phone still work with the new head unit?
This is a great install Video for Jeep Wrangler. I do have one question a lot of Jeep owners use that top bolt in that Top tray to hold down Cell phone and tablet mounts. That metal bracket you took out from the inside of the dashboard actually has the The part where that screw goes into. What do you suggest if people need to bolt stuff from the top?
My question was is I put a jvc in my 2012 jeep Jk but I didn’t buy anything for the uconnect cause I didn’t care about the steering wheel controls, but I was wondering does the new radio use its own amp or does it actually use the oem amp that’s under the steering column
Great video and Thanks!! I do have 2 questions hopefully you can answer. 1) I have a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX going into a 2014 JKU, should I be able to use the factory mic? I plan on removing the UConnect if that maters at all. 2) I bought the USB adaptor from your link, was it long enough on it's own for you?
I have the powertek acoustic stereo in my 01 Cherokee and I was wondering if I would be able to transfer it over to my 2012 wrangler ? Currently there is some off brand Japanese radio in there called nakamichi and I don't like that it does NOT have the android auto functions, due to the app that the current radio wants me to download that doesn't even work.
I hope you still have eyes on this video but needed some help troubleshooting an install I did of this same radio to my 2016 JK...UConnect is being difficult
I have watched this video 10 times and have ordered the parts that you recommend. Two questions- Our Wrangler has a time left on the free trial from Sirius XM- do I need a separate part to utilize satellite or just the satellite antenna adapter? Also- I know the radio you installed has backup camera capability. Do I need a different set up in order to install camera? Thank you in advance, I am a novice, but pretty handy and willing to learn and try.
I am viewing this in 2020 & you made the video in 2017 so I hope you are still answering questions. I have a 2011 wrangler with stock unit. I would like to know what will I gain or lose if I decide to keep the uconnect still connected if I use the maestro? In addition is it also true if I keep unconnected in will I not be able to put in a Destiination within CarPlay while the car is moving?
Thank you for the informative vid. But what is better datalink, your recommendation, (Maestro RR) or the less expensive AXXESS AX-ADCH100 Interfaces with their cabling?? just wondering
Glad I found this! Is there anything that can be done with upgrading the subwoofer and sound on the JK but with the OEM location (side panel in the trunk, not the newer ones in the trunk floor)?
Great video! I followed it to install a Pioneer avh-1500nex. I am wondering how to secure the random crap holding tray using the screw if we remove the stock radio metal bracket. I have a phone holder that uses the screw in the tray.
Amazing detail thank you so much this was the first install I had professionally done and they did a horrible job all the wires came undone do to just using electrical tape. My front right is my front left and back left and front left is front and back right when I asked them why they did it this way they explained that it’s normal. Any insight on that?
Great video! What year is your Jeep? I am curious...does your steering wheel control work with Siri for your Apple Carplay? Also, if you do not have the extra amp does the new system still require the RCA out cables for the speaker system? Thanks for your help!
I've installer a new touch screen and the bottom of the dash opening once installed, isn't flush. Those little teeth on the bottom. OF the opening are getting in the way. Can I just shave them off?
Mark - great video, thanks. Question - I have a 2018 jeep wrangler JK Sahara - factory radio - I do NOT have uconnent. I want to replace the radio and add bluetooth and hands free calling. Besides buying a new radio, do I follow this radio to accomplish my goal? Thanks
I was researching this last night for my 07 Silverado classic. It looks like I need two different modules one to retain the door and warning chime and another to retain the steering wheel controls. Unfortunately the head unit from my old pickup isn't steering wheel control compatible so I need a new head unit. Actually would you be able to reccomend a decent single din head unit? I don't need all the bells and whistles I'm looking for one I can connect my android phone to.
I have that same setup and I got a lot of noise/EMI when I used the OEM usb port in the center console. I'm curious to see if you have the same result. I was also pretty disappointed the Maestro adapter couldn't give me the reverse signal for a manual transmission. All of the lights in the vehicle are on the canbus. So I'm not sure why they didn't just identify which address and value was for reverse lights and build that into the firmware you load.
I didn't scroll through all the comments so I apologize if this was already brought up; I'd there a harness or module that would allow me to retain all the factory features without having to use the OBD port? Or is it possible to hardwire the wires to the OBD behind the actual port?
Awesome video! Really good help to install my Pioneer radio. I will install the AVH2300 Nex in my Jeep. do you have a video of how to install a backup camera for this? I was looking for the Pioneer ND-BC8 backup camera but I don't know too much about how do it.
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I am installing a Pioneer AVH-X390BS into. The jeep is the most basic of Jeeps! I am looking at the CH1 wiring harness I believe. If I want to hook up later on back up camera or an amplifier then I would need to get the Maestro RR, correct? Is that all I will need for a basic install?
Mark What is the best ground wire connection position to avoid noise? STD wire harness? Straight from battery? Same point as amplifiers? Dedicated position near dashboard?
I have a plane Jane jeep sport with basic radio am,FM,CD that's all and my jeep dose spend some time without doors so the fancy radios are not a good idea any help ? Would love the car play for my android phone
I know this is kind of an old video, but where did you ground your stereo to? I have a Alpine ILX-W650 with two older Alpine V12 amps, one 5 Ch and one 2 ch for a sub. Can’t seem to get rid of “alternator noise” through amplifier grounding so I’ll try stereo grounding next. After that I’ll try 0 gauge grounding straps in the engine bay and see if that helps.
I'm planning on installing the Pioneer 2400 NEX. Should I keep the Uconnect feature when I program it or delete it? Will it cause problems or is it better to keep it? By the way well done video, very informative. Thanks
If you don’t want the steering wheel controls to work anymore do you still need the Maestro brain or can use just use the wiring harness and connect all the colors based on the radio and it will work or no?
Thanks for the help in tips on aftermarket car audio upgrade. I just installed all new kicker audio and new head unit. Weird question but, after installing new speakers and amp. I noticed some engine noise. Do I need to upgrade my alternator or could it be a ground issue?
Great install! I have a question on how you bolt the top 7mm bolt back down under the top trash tray without the old radio support? Does pioneer make an adaptor for this?
