How to install AMD Drivers (without the installing Adrenaline Software)

Some of us want our system to be as light as possible, not needing the functions and features provided. Some of us have a problematic system of which could possibly be resolved by not having the software.
Here's how you can go about installing just the drivers alone.

This helped me by making my system stable after installing a diy 120mm fan on an aged r9 270x. My temps stay near 70 C. With the adrenaline drivers my system crashed after 1 min of playing games or graphics intensive workloads. 👏🏽🙏🏼 Thank You so much for making this video.

Adrenaline has fucked my AMD/Ryzen system twice. And I'm not talking about minor issues, I'm talking blue screens and reinstalling windows issues. This simple work around is a thing of beauty. Thank you so much.

True! I remeber using Adrenaline software and thing is. I allowed Windows to download drivers automatically through internet and it downloaded without adrenaline! Thing is that I compared FPS with Adrenaline and without in some games. Battlefield 1 with Adrenaline barely held 50 on Ultra while without it clearly allowed to go beyond 90! Didn't liked Adrenaline when I have same stuff on my PC. Don't know why Adrenaline is so bad.

I like the software but I do see a possible issue it can cause, being so feature rich. What's worse is they never allow the option to not install with it.

Games continuously crashed and I thought it was my new aoc 165hz monitor. I was depressed for weeks. Removing adrenaline was fix for all my problems. I never had a crash since. Thank you.

When I go to browse for drivers on my PC after pressing cancel, I paste the address in to find the driver but it says the latest drivers are already installed even though I 100% uninstalled all of them including the radeon software, can anyone help?

For such situation you can try the a) use DDU www.wagnardsoft.com/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu- OR b) use AMD Cleanup Utility www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601 After doing both of the above, try to install again.

There is a option under advance options to select install “driver only” idk if it was there for you when this video was created. But it’s there as of today when I was following this guide. I had to do driver only install because the software was causing issues with ryzen master for me

Run the “AMD cleanup utility” found on their website. You should be using this or “display driver uninstaller” anyways anytime you need to change display drivers.

I was struggling with my radeon RX 570 and my old monitor CRT acerview 34 e every time i installed a radeon driver i was unable to make it work, thanks to this now i am able to see actually typing this comment on new drivers installed seriously humankind needs more people like you. I am not sure if this was mentioned but this is a fantastic fix for the 5700 Xt, But without adrenaline there is no way to control the fans and the card will get hot you but use MSI after burner to to make sure your driver is correct and set to fan profiles. Thank you again this fixed problems I was dealing with for over a year

PSA: On some GPUs (Pro, Integrated) there is a driver only option in the installer. I am not sure about other GPUs though.

Assuming your Windows OS is fully updated, what you can do is try uninstall that adapter (right click, uninstall device) and then after that ask it to look for the Radeon driver by specifying the folder.

@ Manguino Michael Manguino Michael You need to copy and paste the location from the location file the guy shows into the "Search for drivers in this location" box. Then it will install the driver. @ goldfries Sorry, but your accent is hard to understand so I had to rewatch a few times to catch what you said before I understood what you said myself. It would have been better for you to copy and paste it to show what you meant as this video is aimed at everyone including those with very little software skills. Very good job otherwise.

i have problems installing my driver of AMD 3400G (i was upgrading my 200ge to 3400g). it is asrock a320m hdv r 4.0, V Gen 8gb 3200mhz (sk hynix), 400 watt power supply. I keep getting black screen when AMD Driver Adapter installation about 60% progress, it asked me for restart your device (AMD Crash Defender) and immediately flashy red then black screen, wait for 10 minutes nothing comes up. For now, my current solution is AMD Cleanup Utility through Windows Safe Mode but still having the same problem over and over with different versions. Is your solution would fix my problem? So what is your current Display Adapter is it still the default "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" ?

Is there a fix that doesn't require you to run the AMD software? That's where my problem lies. When I ren the program it automatically tells me error 182 (legacy driver issue) , and it will close down. I don't even get to the point of being able to cancel it.

Quite the common problem Windows. What you can do is run the software called DDU to remove whatever Windows has installed, and then manually update the drivers again.

My asus tuf fx505dy came without adrenaline but all the drivers were already installed and it runs amazing, when i installed adrenaline need for speed heat stopped working it was not recognized by adrenaline now i uninstalled adrenaline everything is working great. AMD's Adrenalin Software is mostly bloatware, the only thing that should've been included in it are the Tuning(for under/overclocking) and the graphs. Everything else I've seen is basically ads for AMD's other hardware and a built in browser and streaming? The vast majority of users don't need any of that.

Timeout errors are from amd side not yours. So they have recently made the fix for this on the latest update , download that and you wont get timeout error

Don't go through Windows, run Adrenaline software. Even if you don't go through the above process there's also process for you to repair and such.

Did driver only install and guess what down from 50-55% memory usage to 34% memory usage. Man it feels snappier now.

Interesting finding, no doubt the Adrenaline software is feature packed but being that also means it will hog some resource.

I'd say still works, however one does not need to go through this any more as there's is a DRIVER ONLY option already.

@@pr0ph3t5 at this point you probably got it already, but go to their driver download page, download the adrenaline driver update file, and then you can choose between full installation or driver only, which is a godsend.

Lol I had the same issue. Right click on ur graphics card (or whatever else pops up under display adapters) and go to properties. Then on the second tab, hit uninstall, and when the next window pops up, check yes. Then do this process

My entry level Radeon RX 550 on my 2 year old computer checks out alright but 2 weeks ago when trying to bring up the software I got that message : The version of your Radeon software you have launched is not compatible with your graphic driver. A factory reset is recomwended....and so on. I did go to amd and downloaded the driver but was leary on how to install without any problems. It has the auto detect feature but am unsure about the clean install. Thanx in advance if you have any suggestions and keep up the good work. db

Hey, I am using a laptop with an AMD processor and a Nvidia gpu. The problem is that I want to have the full screen scaling on, for which I use the Adrenaline software. But I believe the software is causing the laptop startup to slow down. Is there any way I can get the full screen scaling without the Adrenaline software? PS: The Nvidia panel cannot change display settings as its not possible on a laptop

@@karlskarls10 yup I kinda fixed it Apparently it's not about the software problem but it's your gpu Once I changed my gpu I managed to install the driver without problem but a little bit of flickering display

my screen went black while i was installing this radeon software adrenaline. Before i did that, my gpu was working fine. Should I try to find another solution to fix this or should I just buy a new gpu? I really appreciate you reply. Thanks!

Thanks for the video but i have a question: does is it possibile to change pixel format from YBCr to Full RGB without Adrenaline software? :-(

Not that I know of, and that's why I had it installed on my work rig. For some reason my screen and AMD driver will auto default to YBCr and the screen turns pink. I had to install Adrenaline software to set it to RGB.

hmm.. after inputting the copied info and posting it in the update driver browse bar, it just tells me its up to date. so annoying. any ideas?

You'll need to remove the current Radeon driver and then try it. Use DDU or The AMD Cleanup Utility in safe mode with no network connection. Reboot and try again.

Hmmm After I reinstalling Windows 10 and I updated all patch of Windows, but I install driver for rx470, after complete, I reseted my pc and open the software then I have announcement : No Amd Graphics Installed Before I installed driver for card onboard If I uninstall driver of card onboard, I can install driver for my rx470 ?

I need help. I used the AMD cleanup utility and removed all AMD display drivers. Now as a Display adapter my device manager sees the Microsoft display adapter. When I follow the method above step by step to update my drivers, it says that the best drivers are already installed and can't install the new amd ones. What can I do?
