I installed this box unit air conditioner in a sliding window. In this video, I show how I made a temporary structure of wood to hold the air con unit in place.
I can also install a portable air conditioner unit that sits on the floor with an exhaust pipe going out a clear plexiglas panel in the window, if that's what you want.

This is great, I've been researching units for a crank window that opens horizontally and was about to give up. Not only are they stupidly expensive but my window is too wide anyway. I showed this to a friend of mine and we're going to use the same idea. Thank you!

I am thinking of purchasing a window AC for my apartment, which has a sliding window, and I know the area that I would have the most problem with would be taking the proper measurements for the wood. I don't have any tools because I don't generally do projects, so I am hoping that I can take the correct measurements and that a home improvement store would cut the wood (plywood?) to my specifications. This is a helpful video.

Nice job brother! just a couple of things: if you had to do this on a secondstory window with no way to stand outside and slide that unit back into its case, it would need a different approach...also, not everyone has one of those saws for the cuts but I guess a circular saw would do for the plywood... if you got the tools and its accessible from ground level, looks good and came out Nice!

You can also get measurements and have Home Depot/Lowes cut some for you.

Every time I look for a video on this subject, the window is always huge, I want to see someone install into a small bathroom window. A small 5000 btu unit.

Simple. Can’t be done. Either go with a ductless unit or a portable unit. Ductless unit being ideal

Did you put foam weather stripping in the gaps on the sides or ?

Yes. I put foam and white duct tape.

Geez what a pain to install.. why don't they make vertical units that fit these new style windows?? I have a floor unit but it makes a gallon of water per day! Every 2 hours I have to empty it.

you wont find this way here possible if ur on a second story window..there are other vids that offer a simpler approach out there where you dont need to disasemble the unit..
