Right! Good video! When the door is open to the position that you want, just slide the door stop "washer" all the way up to the piston case and then release the door. The door will start to close about 1/2 inch, pinch the "washer" upright against the rod, and the door will stay in that position. Good luck.
Great vid, thank you for posting. to keep the door propped open, when the door is open simply slide that funky, bent metal piece up to canister and when the door tries to close that funky, bent metal piece keeps the rod from entering the canister.
Mike you are a star! the instructions were a 'bit vague' on that bit, most of the time I just need it to shut but tried what you said and it works! Many thanks for the value added post!
I love RU-vid!!!! haha thank you, mate! I have the same door closer in bronze and getting ready to install and the instructions that came with it do not explain all the details like how to adjust the pressure of the pneumatic system (inside the tube) to make the door close gently, I have cats too! Thank you thank you thank you thank you
Thanks for the video. I'm a first time lady home owner learning to fix things around the house. This video saved my bacon and money I would have spent asking a neighbor to help.
Nice job, except for one thing. You screwed the bracket on the door backwards. Most of the bracket should be behind the pneumatic arm. It works either way, but this way the bracket is hidden.
Now that you mention it, it would blend in better & look more aesthetically pleasing to have that right hand part of the door opening bracket hidden in behind the pneumatic arm
Great Video mate ! I am thinking about installing one of these units on my metal security door . I have a teenager who loves to leave the door wide open every time he leaves the house with his mates . It’s about to drive me mad 😡 .
Thanks for the vid! Saw an old automatic door closer here. Saw this first. Watched it and able to install the door closer. Also saw your fishing gears!!! Angler here haha
Thanks for this video. So easy to understand and follow. Have you figured out how to use the small bracket thingy? I think if we want to hold the door open, we have to manual move the bracket? Just guessing. 😆
Yes, that is correct. Its pretty cool, especially if you are carrying groceries etc. into the house and the door keeps closing. Open the door, and with the one hand holding the door open, use your other hand to move that metal bracket holder snug up to the base of the closer. Remove your hand and the door will attempt to close, but will be blocked by the holder. When done, simply push open the door a little to free the holder, with your other hand slide the bracket back to the end, then when you let go of the door, it will go back to closing on its own.
A relative of mine has a similar door closer but the cylinder was damaged (a big long gaping hole / oblong hole) on one side. The hole was caused by the mechanism inside the cylinder. They were already contemplating on buying a new one. Instead of buying outright, I taped two big popsicle sticks (side by side) on the outside of the cylinder to plug the hole. It's been three years now and they're still using my repaired version.
That's a good question. Technically yes, but youll probably hate it. The range is very small so the sliding door would only open like 6 inches. It works on regular swinging doors cause as you can tell the bar doesnt have to move that much. You would have to see if they make ones specifically for sliding doors.
Hi there, i only have a door handle (those long ones) with no knobs and the wind keeps slamming my door. Will installing a door closer help me even if i dont have a knob?
