How to Install an EASY Paver Walkway For BEGINNERS

Просмотров 104 тыс.
% 1 080

Here I show you how I (finally) laid my own DIY pathway on a budget with path edging on a mortar bed, staggered stepping stones, and gravel in my backyard, leading to my workshop and garden shed.
This DIY walkway is sponsored by Stihl's GTA 26 cordless garden pruner, which you can find a local dealer here: shop.stihl.co.uk/pages/dealer-locator?
You'll also see that while laying my own gravel path in a garden, I used no power tools other than my headphones to keep me motivated and plenty of elbow grease.
There's no need for a cement mixer either during this DIY garden path. Instead, I mixed my sand and cement mortar mix in a mixing tray to lay my block pavers and garden path stepping stones, then topped up the rest with gravel.
As promised, here's how I did some maths and created my stepping stone pathways jig for a quicker workflow: thecarpentersdaughter.co.uk/gardening/diy-stepping-stones-jig/
If you liked watching my how to lay stepping stones easily, you might also enjoy my other walkway ideas here which are all landscape gardening projects for beginners here in my playlist, (in chronological order): ru-vid.com/group/PLV5z5fnF1kfc1QO5EFerV-0IFDAJ_sdCl

Minimum of 4 to 6 inches sub base, but you may get away with 3 to 4 if down to sub solid but it looks like you are only down the organic soil and only using a hand wacker plate. I would also apply a slurry to each concrete pavers before laying onto the mortar and this will guarantee a good bond. Arguably over engineered which I tend to do, but it belt and braces. But as you said, it only you, hubby and your gorgeous dog that will be walking on your new walk way. Good video and good explanation. Job well done and it looks good.

I've found that stepping stones can be installed directly on to my soil, compacting the soil with a hand compactor as you've done in the beginning. But I can see why you've gone OTT here to show people what professional builders call "good building practice" so that they will guarantee the job and charge the customer more than is necessary.
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK 2 года назад
I honestly thought some people would say I should have dug the whole area up and filled with hardcore, but the end use is all that matters, so agree... if stepping stones are hardly going to be walked on, then why not just place them on the soil? This means you can stand (relatively) upright when using it and still have the blade flat to the ground, you can't do that with a spade. I would have done the whole job with mine, digging/excavating, bottoming out, mixing - everything. There does seem to be a good depth of decent topsoil there.
