Great easy to understand video. When I lived in Idaho I heard often on the News how bears were a trouble near the Yellowstone Park. A responsible home owner can reduce conflicts by being proactive.

Nice job. We only have Black Bears here in NY, but it's good to keep them out of trouble.

what do you mean when you say you connected the ground wire 'to the barrier portion of the fence"? did you hook it to the old mesh fence or many drove in another ground stack?

The ground rod is connected the energizer and to the existing mesh fieldwire. That way, if a bear tries to climb the fence they will be touching a hot wire and the ground wire simultaneously. This makes the bear the circuit and delivers the greatest shock strength, regardless of environmental conditions.

Great information.. What type of wire did you use - 14 gauge aluminum or Galvanized Steel? Thanks

Thats for the question Arun. From Russ: "I prefer 14g steel because it has a higher tensile strength, but aluminum is perfectly suitable for electric fencing as well."

I am getting ready to start Beekeeping. I have trouble with trespassers on my land. I have had an electric fence in the past to keep livestock in, Now my question is to use it to keep unauthorized people out. especially away from the beehives. I have 2 acres to guard. Often I am not always home weeks or months at a time. I am tired of everyone driving their 4 wheelers across my land, destroying and / or stealing stuff. I sure do not want them spraying my hives with wasp poison or whatever they decide to use. so I was thinking of solar electric fence, but I have best sun close to the house, the bees will be at the far side of the land. So, I am curious if there is a way I can make the entire two acres hot ( electrified) , in a manor no one can enter with out some kind of remote controll on / off power button, kind of like a car key fob lock? Make it so I have to have that remote to power the fence on or off. the ones that are not solar like I have had in past, I would use a remote power on / off plug simalar to one of theses: search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AwrB8o7eAVZZZ3wAiYaJzbkF?p=remote%20power%20on%20/%20off%20plug&fr=yset_widemail_chr_win&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Ai%2Cm%3Apivot&stype=web Is there any way to use somthing like this on a solar powerd eletric fenc? I do not want gate handles where anyone can go through whenever they please. I want to make it basicly as I mentioned so I must have that remote to enter or exit the land. is it possible? how would I do this?

Does the power wire have to be at the house? or can you make a post to attach it to outside?

Thanks for the question CRystaL 591. The power does not have to be at the house. In this example, it was simply the closest available 110 outlet source. However, many people choose to run power out to a power pole at the location of the fence and plug the energizer in there.
