Check your city electrical code to see what wire is needed for your installation. Texas we use 12/2

Good comment. 12/2 or 14/2 are usually the standard if you live in the US. It's important to make sure to learn which is required before running wires, otherwise you're just wasting a lot of time, and probably getting frustrated.

What ever you do never use a utility knife to strip the jacket off your wire. NEVER. Determine the proper length and strip your wire with the proper tool (Klein 1412) before putting it in the wall box.
