Thanks for the discussion about using a ground as a neutral. That explains a lot about the newer smart items that have puzzled me.

Yes, we're always told never to use the ground for current flow, yet there are exceptions granted. This would be a very tiny amount, just enough to give the electronics a reference point, but when the code allows the bonding of a 3P 4W appliance (like an electric range or dryer) when there is only 2 conductors (+ ground) available in the walls, you can bond that neutral to ground, and there you will potentially have a few amps of current on the ground wire as any 120V components in the appliance needs that to work (lights, clocks, electronics, etc.)

Things get a little more complicated if that existing switch was a three-way switch. I saw another video, and it depends whether the hot wire and load wire are in the same box, or on opposite ends. In the first case you just get rid of the runners and ground and cap them off. In the other case, you use one of the runners to forward the hot to the second switch, and cap off the runner you're no longer using. There should be a ground connecting the two switches.

Great video. I have a question. I have a throw type switch not a rocker. Due they make an occupancy switch for that?
