Using some components left over from a former satellite install made converting to an off-air antenna rather easy. Now let's see what we can pull in from 45 miles away.
I bet that you learn via watching someone do it once and you are good to go! You almost remind me of my aunt. I need someone to help me install an antenna on my roof.
You should put some Chemlink M1 or other sealant on those lag bolts to avoid waterproofing issues in the future... Just having that rubber gasket is a little scary
You prolly dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf during the lockdown xD
@@autryld I tried an amp and it didn't get me any extra channels...like PBS. Someone told me the antenna is the issue...it's three years old and maybe not optimal for digital.
I used an amp at my house with an attic antenna and I went from 32 to 68 channels and some new smart channels I didn’t have before it makes a world of difference
Good video. Helpful. Thanks. I'm sure :)) others have already comment, but I probably would have filled the old holes (with just a bit of overflow) with some roof sealant from a tube. But maybe your result to date is that such wasn't even needed. Anyway, thanks for posting.
I went to Menard's and got SKU 3011802 (Deck Adapter) for $15. It lists all the parts seen in the video including the insert. I'll work on it in the next couple of days.
That was part of the old satellite installation and would have kept me from using the satellite coax cables in my new location. I added the ground back to the antenna later.
Nice video, Any chance you could give some specs? What kit did you use? What are the O.D.'s of the long pipes being used to slide into the roof mount? Thank you
I found the kit (view-able at 00:08) at a home improvement upper Midwest big box store. It fits a 1 1/8" to to 1 1/2" mast. The RCA mast I used can be viewed at 2:01. I hope this helps and good luck with your project. I've been happy with mine.
@@TheOriginalMechanic I mounted my antenna directly to the old DirecTV short mast. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite clear the ridge of the roof. Anyway, I need this kit. What store did you get it at so I can try and match it? We have a Menard's here. SKU 3011802 looks like what you're using but the product description doesn't tell me what's in the box.
@@autryld Menard's. I don't remember all the parts and pieces...it had the foot and the mast which rotated in the foot. I guess try it and if doesn't fit your Direct TV mount take it back.
Only 6 channels at 45 miles from transmitters? You're in tv hell. I'm 80 miles from nearest transmitter and get 36 channels in one direction and 18 in another. I've gotten better results from the DIY 4 Bay antennas made with Romex wire
