I bought two sticks of ram few months ago bought two new ones last week now my pc will blue screen randomly in games they are the exact models as far as i can tell Ddr4 3200mhz cl16 ocpc even the same manufacturer Samsung But i cannot get xmp working on it only works on 2133 without xmp Is there any fix or will i have to sell my ram
They are not the same, install them like I show you here and you will probably not be able to use xmp together. You will have to cater your speeds to the slowest one, and the higher voltage.
Really love your videos. Let whatever the video is, but you always give in-depth theorical knowledge and show by doing practically too. I love getting extra knowledge and info
Awesome my friend, so very happy I could help you and thank you so much for your kind words, it really does mean a ton to me and so very happy you enjoyed this video.
You just earned another subs. I'm a complete beginner to the PC community. I bought a used PC with only one stick of 8GB RAM and I bought a new one to increase it to 16GB. After that, I booted up my PC and my monitor doesn't have any signal, I was panicking and scared cause it's my first PC I bought with my own money and at that time I thought just getting a new RAM is gonna be easy. The pre-installed RAM has 2666MHZ and the one I inserted has 3200MHZ. So I was like maybe that's why, but when I did a bit of research, that my MOBO and CPU has lower max RAM speeds than the new RAM I bought and it says that the MOBO will auto down clock the higher RAM speed to match up the limit from the MOBO. But even then, my monitor has no signals from my PC even after I boot it up. Now I'm just using the pre-installed RAM 1x8GB 😅
Well thank you so much my friend, I am so very happy I could help you and I thank you so much for your support it means the world to me. As for the RAM, yeah it can be a bit picky but if you drop in the 3200Mhz RAM alone, set the RAM speed to 2666Mhz, with the highest of the 2 voltages and set RAS, CAS, TRAS and the others to Auto you should be good to add the other, maybe not perfect though. Give that a try and see if it helps, in this case you cannot use XMP, you have to set that to Manual and the RAM sticks have to be in slot 2 and 4.
Always a pleasure my friend, so very happy you stopped by, trusted in me to help you, liked and subbed as well as took a moment out of your day to thank me. It means a ton to me and I am so very happy I could help you.

I bought a pre-built pc on best buy and the ram sticks are a 16gb set that were positioned in b1 and b2, if I were to buy a 16gb stick (I can't find another 8gb x2 set of the same model) would it be ok for me to put that 16gb in b1 and the other 2 8gb sticks in a1 and a2? ALSO wonderful video, I understand much more than i did before!!!

Here’s something that can change your way of life or thinking. This is the most important thing you will hear/read today. If you’ve told one lie, stolen anything, or lusted (which is adultery of the heart), you’ll be found guilty on Judgment Day and end up in Hell. But there’s good news: Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, perfectly kept the Law, fulfilling all righteousness. He paid the fine for sinners ( that we could never pay ) by suffering and dying on the cross-absorbing the wrath of God that we deserve. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. Today, repent and trust Jesus; God will grant you forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. God bless God Bless

No matter which way I go in the screen to get to the bios I have been able to go to a screen that resembles what you show as the bios screen. I go into a screen that can take me to the bios screen, but again like I said it does not look anything like the screen you show in this video. What am I doing wrong?
If I have an existing ram stick in one of the slots that I need to install the new sticks, should I move it or just put the two sticks in a different spot

Tip if it wont go in: if it's aligned correctly, you have to push REALLY hard. WAYYYYY harder than you'd expect. Literally so hard you might almost feel the board bending quite a bit.
Hey, Bytes, this is a long shot, but: Would you happen to know why I'm getting 100% Disk Usage after having upgraded my RAM and doing a BIOS update/CMOS reseating? My PC's never had this issue before, but now it's instant 100% usage from the moment I login. I've tried scanning the system, and using CrystalDiskCheck, but they both showed the HDD as being in perfect health. I don't know what more I can do at this point, besides cloning my HDD to an SDD.
open task manager, right click on the taskbar, and click "Task Manager",, there click the tab that reads "Disk", this will sort it by whats eating up your disk, you can right click on it and select end task. If that doesn't work, click start, type CMD, right click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". This that command prompt, run each of these lines Each will take a bit. SFC /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Either way, I don't recommend cloning a disk, especially one you are having issues with, your copying the problem to another drive, that doesn't make sense, make a clean install of windows, I have videos on both though. A clean install will make you feel like you have a brand new computer, ESPECIALLY if you are installing on an SSD versus an HDD, I have a video coming out on that, stay tuned.
@@ThisBytesForYou I've tried those steps several times. No errors ever found, and the Disk Usage drops significantly after RestoreHealth. But upon restarting the PC, the problem comes back. I have many files on this HDD that I'd rather not lose, and I don't want to reinstall all my programs.
@@ThisBytesForYou So, after several more hours, I looked into Event Viewer. I saw an error pop up during my latest session, about some paging file (can't remember what it was) that couldn't be written to due to running out of space for the file. Googled the error, and found a random article about a way to modify the size of the file to go from 25mb to 256+mb, so it won't fill up so quickly. Rebooted the PC (and reseated the HDD for good luck), and the Disk Usage shows as 30-51% on the Processes Tab, but would sometimes show 100% on the Performance Tab (it never went above 51 on Processes). My programs still ran fine, and everything launched up, so the HDD was still healthy. I used that chance to follow your Macrium Cloning video, and cloned my HDD to my new 2TB SSD. Took an hour-and-a-half to finish. No errors or issues, and I tested the SSD. Booted up within 10 secs (my HDD took several minutes to boot up, so I was amazed at the SSD speeds). All my files were on the SSD and applications ran fine. I was honestly surprised that Macrium was able to copy my Linux partition (I dual boot) without any issue. With all that, I'm just waiting for my heatsink to come in (I'm dumbfounded that m.2 SSDs don't ship with a mounting screw + heatsink by default), and then I plan to replace my HDD with a SATA SSD for extra storage. Thank you for your PC breakdown video, as I've always been wary of looking into PCs, much less modifying one! I do have one question: When I boot from my SSD, it shows as still being C drive, even though it should be my D drive. I know it's my SSD, since I have tabs open on it that I don't on my HDD. Just wanted to know, if it's supposed to showing up that way? I checked on System Configuration tool, and it only lists the one OS, even though both my SSD and HDD are bootable.
Great info to have, a 256gig M.2 is TINY,, I always recommend at LEAST a 500Gig for a C drive, sure at first you have a lot of free space, but it fills up quick. A page file is virtual RAM, A system managed page files automatically grows up to three times the physical memory (If you have 8Gigs, it can grow to 24Gigs, 16gigs can grow to 48Gigs and so on ) when the system commit charge reaches 90 percent of the system commit limit. It doesn't worry about free space,.... thats when windows crashes and acts up, because it doesn't have free space and your drive is QUICKLY try to process what is occurring, 100% disk utilization because the drive is full and is fully being used. As for linux, thanks for letting me know, I was not 100% sure. I know a physical cloner will copy it, but wasn't sure how deep Macrium went. Yes that is a limitation of many cloning titles. Go into Disk Management, right click the start button and click "Disk Management", located the older disk that shouldn't be the C drive, right click on the partition and click "Change drive letter and paths..." apply and Ok and you are good.
I just tried to add new 2x16g ram (Corsair vengeance) to my Lenovo legion 26IAB7. The computer boots into windows and using the task manager I can see that computer recognizes the 32g of ram. But then shortly freezes and start a cycle of resetting. Is the ram bad, not using with me Mobo (IB660ME) or is it something else? The CMOS is in a bad location on this board, it looks to be behind my GPU.
the countless amount of hours ive spent researching and tweaking with bios and watching videos trying to fix my ram. and you being the only person to mention how to properly match the numbers up

Thank you so much for your kind words and support my friend, it means the world to me and I am so very happy I could help you. Always here for you my friend, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
I'm on a bit of a tight budget so don't hate too hard, but my situation is this: I bought a PC, prebuilt but fairly basic spec (it's not for gaming primarily so is OK for what I need to do) but there is room for some small improvements. So I have 2 ddr3 ram slots, and the spec sheet of my motherboard says it can take 16gb. So 2 x 8gb. It came with 1 x 8gb installed. I have tried a few different sticks that are the same speed and stuff but in the second slot, no new ram will register, it just shows the single 8gb. But if I put the new ram in on its own, the pc just won't boot or show display. So I want to make sure there's nothing else I can try before I spend more money on a matching pair of 2x8gb. I've tried the cmos battery and also the jumper to clear the cmos and reset everything. In the past this has worked for new components.
no hate my friend, you do what you have to do to get by, we've all been there. So for now, what you can do, is change the memory from XMP, and set it to the lowest speed of all the memory, and the highest voltage of the memory. So if one stick was 2800Mhz and the other was 3200Mhz, set it to 2800Mhz. For voltage if one is 1.4 volts and the other is 1.2volts, set it to 1.4volts. I am not saying that is what the speed or voltage is of your memory, just an example. The issue COULD be in the RAS, Tras, Cas latencies, if they are drastically different, set it to the highest. for example, if 1 stick is 9,9,9,28, and the other is 10,10,10,32, set the timings to 10,10,10,32. Try not to touch the timings unless you need to.
Bought a cheap open box prebuilt back before the pandemic and its starting to really show its age so I picked up a bunch of parts to overhaul it on black Friday. Thanks for this, I have no idea what I am doing but am excited to learn.
Awesome my friend, so happy I could help you pep up your PC. If you need any other help, please feel free to ask, I may have the answer for you and if not, it could be the idea for another video, always trying to help. Welcome to the family ;)
My problem is that i added 1 new RAM stick thats almost indentical ddr4 3k mhz like old one, cl16, same 8gb only brand is different because those arent made anymore. When i turn on PC both of them fall to 2100ish mhz even with auto "tuning" turned in BIOS. When i leave the old one it goes back to 3k mhz, when i leave just new one its same just when they are double they go like they dont match ... Im baffled
24Gigs would be more for Quad channel RAM, which hasn't been used since Gulf Town processors. There is no such thing as too much, go for 32 if 16 is too low. You want 2 or 4 sticks, so you can stick to dual channel, if you do 3 sticks you will do single channel.
If you just take out the 2 sticks of ram (just to see how it worked, out of curiosity) and put them back in, do you still have do the setup on the BIOS screen as you showed in here?
thanks for this video. i was trying to install my ram and the bottom latch wasnt opening up. i was really scared to push it open. even in the mobo manual it showed both latches open. after i saw your video i did it
yup, it doesn't always click, but on new boards it doesn't, especially if you upgrade often, it stops being so snappy. (Pun not intended, but it works ;) )
this helped me a ton when I upgraded from 16gb to 32gb (ddr4 g skill V). when I added the 2 sticks of new ram it wouldn't boot. so I removed the 2 new sticks, disabled DOCP (XMP for intel) then installed the 2 new sticks and it booted! but when I tried to turn DOCP back on it wouldn't boot again, so I lowered the clock speed from 3600 to 2933 and boom we are cooking, it works now. thanks my man 💯

I mention to check in your QVL, here is your QVL: rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b760-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_qvl_memory/ , QVL stands for Qualified Vendor List. For example, this is on your QVL, and on my Amazon Affiliate: geni.us/8BTx7C5
I know this is a beginner guide, but if you're going through the entire process of configuring memory in bios etc as well I would recommend testing and making sure the overclock (xmp is an overclock) is also stable. i recommend memtest86 mounted on a usb boot drive as it will test the full address range outside of windows 10. But other than that. very good guide thanks.
thanks bud, XMP is an overclock, but since it was developed, I have never had an issue with XMP, ever. I wanted to teach people how to set the memory up through JEDEC standards, but, a 13 minute video would have turned out to be a 20 minute video. Finding voltages, finding where the timings are then telling people which should be set where, that would have failed well out of a beginner guide. XMP, falls perfectly into a beginners guide, and chances are, any stick of memory you buy will have an XMP profile.
@@ThisBytesForYou Yeah, maybe I was unlucky but I had actually gotten an unstable ram kit once recently. It was 2x16 GB CL18 3600 Mhz g skill ripjaws. Pretty common ram. Didn't like the overclock XMP profile 1 in a msi b550 bios with a 5600x. Failed memtest with memory overlcock but was fine in JEDEC (2333 Mhz or something). Replaced with corsair ram same speed and timing and it worked perfectly and passed memtest. Go figure. The unstable ram caused slight instabilities with CTD's in game but that's about it daily driving was stable.
Prior to ordering these GSkill sticks, I had just bought Corsair memory for my new build, my older workstation died, so I figured to go all out. Sadly, the Corsair, XMP or JEDEC would only post when it wanted to, and stay working when it wanted to as well, worked perfectly fine with some older Patriot Viper 4133Mhz, but I only had 32Gigs, I wanted 64Gigs for Video and photo editing, to make sure I had 0 hiccups. 3 days of playing with that, i sent the memory back (which was not a bad thing, because I didn't realize I ordered 3200Mhz RAM) and then bought these, slightly faster 3600Mhz, but also with tighter timings and running XMP all day long, not a single issue with these. If anything, XMP helps you find issues quicker I guess haha. Glad you got everything working, but in both cases, it wasn't XMP, it was just defective RAM, XMP just showed the issue quicker. I don't know about you, but I don't want JEDEC, I want rated speeds.
the other thing I didn't mention (for 2 reasons) was the QVL. The Qualified Vendor List has all the memory that was tested to work on the board. As product development engineer, I worked with companies to get memory tested when there was issues but they would only test and certify memory that was paid to get tested... that seems very shady to me. I won't say which motherboard manufacturers, this was before my days reviewing, so that's 1 reason I don't use QVL and the other is because they mostly don't have RAM I want to use on there hahaha. But the QVL is there to let you know what RAM is good to use and if it's not there, you run the risk of it not working, and also potentially support not working with you because if its not on the QVL, that's the issue. Chances are the RAM is going to work, but when using RAM, I at least like to verify if for AMD, it is stated that it is certified AMD compatible and the same for Intel.
@@ThisBytesForYou interesting read, you have an interesting background! In regards to the QVL I also find that these are rarely up to date - could be because memory manufactures are constantly changing their model numbers / chipsets or they just don't have the testing capability for all the different memory that's out in the wild currently. There's a good chance alot of the memory model numbers that are listed in Gigabyte or Msi etc motherboard QVLs aren't even purchasable anymore as they are older model skews. Once again thanks for the video, you should do a video on your experience in the field.
Im looking to upgrade from 16gb ram to 32gb. Im new to pc gaming, will this swap affect save files or games downloaded on my pc? In other words will i lose data or be required to download games again
RAM does not store anything permanently, it is temporary storage in your computer that gives applications a place to store and access data on a short-term basis. Your hard drive or SSD is where the permanent data is stored. No worries friend, we were all noobs with PC's when we started, and this is a noob friendly place, I try hard with all my videos to teach you everything. If you feel like I am missing something and it makes sense to make, let me know. Very happy to help.
Awesome video that finally fixed my issue. I bought a gaming PC from Newegg a few years ago and always had weird things going on. Blue screen, games stuttering, etc. Enabling XMP made it even worse. Checked the RAM after watching this and the numbers were off by over 200 so they weren't a set. Put new RAM in and it's been good ever since.

can I put different ram frequency on A1 and B1 because my A2 and B2 is dual rank with 3200mhz and when I looked at the guide of my motherboard I saw that A1 and B1 doesn't support 3200mhz, it only supports up to 2900mhz if single rank and 2600mhz if dual rank, please I'm new to building pc I need help
You can but it can cause issues, you won't be able to use xmp and you have to set the slowest speed, highest voltage and highest cash, ras, tras latencies to get it to work correctly. Not worth it.
@@eeniemeenie-y5p chances are they are using different ics and surely are made with different time stamps, there is a chance for issues, if you buy them all at once, there is less of a chance.
You probably didnt seat the memory correctly, you mixed the RAM, or you have them RAM in the incorrect slots, have you checked your motherboard manual?
looks like the video cut off, sorry about that. After installing the RAM, when you turn the PC back on, start tapping the Del or F2 key to get into the BIOS, where it is in your BIOS, what is the manufacturer and model number of your motherboard?
okay so question, i had an existing ram stick one singular 16 g stick in my alienware prebuilt pc. i used razer cortex to get the exact model size and speed stick to add another one making it 2 i followed procedures and made sure everything was off before installing and then making sure they were spaced properly in their dimm slots. i turned my pc on it powered up but couldnt get an hdmi reading would i have to pop out the battery and reset bios to test if itll turn on with the old and new ram stick in ?

One question. I setup my own PC (not professionally) and I'm used to using the right-most slot and the other (one slot apart) for two DIMM sticks. What got me confused is the Aorus x470 gaming 7 wifi's manual. The manual shows labels on the ram slots 4,2,3,1 in that order from left to right. I would like to ask for your opinion about this. Does it mean that I am using slots 2 and 1 in this configuration according to the manual? If so, should I move the other ram to the slot beside the first ram (inserted in slot 1)? I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance!
going by the diagram on page 5, you would install the RAM on yeah, 2 and 1, a bit odd the way they labelled it. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_x470-aorus-gaming-7-wifi_1001_180628_e.pdf?v=2282efdfd2333f7619ba8f7af87f09a5
@@ThisBytesForYou Thank you so much for the quick response! I guess I have my rams installed correctly then. I find it really odd how they labelled the ram slots too. Now a follow up question. Is it good to upgrade to a 64GB (2x32GB)3600mhz ram on my x470 board with my current CPU (Ryzen 7 2700x)? Im currently on 16GB 2666mhz ram and it bottlenecks my PC all the time when I play games and multitask. If so, do I really need to update my BIOS from F5 to F60+? I'm scared of bricking my PC by updating my BIOS lol! Can I just keep my current BIOS and just use AMD Ryzen Master to OC the new pair of rams to get the rated 3600mhz speed? Thanks!
no, NEVER mix your RAM, if you will be buying 2x32, take out your old sticks and use the new RAM, and should you update your RAM, watch this quick short: ru-vid.comg5CV_TlGN1k

I have new built pc when i use windows memory diagnostic it said it has hardware problems found. I checked again using memtest86 but it said my Ram has passed the test. What would be the issue? When I play games OC at 3600 it bluescreen but when I clock down to 3200 it is fine.
interesting, it seems that BIOS is no longer listed, you should update your BIOS, make sure this link I am sending you is your BIOS, then update it. They could have removed it because there were issues, the updates since 2.60 (which doesn't exist on their site) are AGESA updates, which have to do with memory, cpu and more. After you Flash the BIOS, go back in the BIOS, load optimal defaults, save and exit, then go back in the BIOS and enable XMP and don't touch anything else int he line of memory and see how it does: www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550%20Pro4/index.asp#BIOS @@Dark_Wizard_of_Mu
I installed some RAM and a new SSD drive onto my HP 15R laptop (checked to make sure they were compatible). It works fine at first and then once it starts getting hot the screen flickers and then eventually will not come back on. I thought it was the wire, because I pinched it when I first put the HP back together. Replaced the wire and it's better and doesn't immediately start happening, but still eventually does the same. IF I leave the top cover unsnapped and just lay it on top (without the keyboard connected), the issue does not occur (which is why I think it's a heat issue). There is not a fan in the PC as well. Will adding a fan fix this? What do you think is causing this? Will removing the battery fix this--could it be the CMOS? I didn't reset it or change any settings like you did in the video. Also, it has always gotten hot right below the mouse pad (from day 1). I have always had to be careful with it, because if it gets too hot the mouse pad will quit working. I bought a lap desk which has kept this from being an issue.
by updating it to an SSD, it should have cooled down some, mechanical drives get hot. Sounds like during the upgrade, you removed a thermal pad or maybe thermalpaste. Do you know if it had a thermalpad or thermal paste between the cpu and the heatsink? Celerons get hot, the Pentium N3540, and a Pentium.. sadly they do get hot. That system does however have a fan, this is the fan off of my amazon affiliate link: geni.us/tmXe1C
@@ThisBytesForYou This was my first laptop upgrade and I was not aware of the thermal pads or paste. I try to put back anything I take off if I can. I will definitely get the fan from your affiliate page and was just searching for one after I posted here. So this helps a lot. Do you have a video showing how to do the thermal paste or pad? I'm sure I can find one somewhere if not. Thank you so much for you're help. I really appreciate it.
Doesn't show what, xmp profiles, xmp profiles are programs into the memory, your memory may not have it, what is the manufacturer and model number of the ram, its written in the sticker.
Hey dude. I hope you can answer this question. I had xtreme trouble with a pc, which basically had me buying almost another full pc to try and fix. I gave up in the end and bought a complete new pc. In my stock pile from buys to fix last pc, I have 4x16gb TForce sticks (2 seperate 2x16s, bought at different times). After watching this vid, Im a little confused whether I can put all 4 larger sticks in as I notice that the CL numbers are different from 1 set to the other. ie CL 16-18-18-38 1.35v and the other is CL 16-20-20-40 1.35v. Can I throw all these 4 sticks in my new pc?
well, first, while it isn't 100%, check to make sure the memory is in the QVL, if its in the QVL, qualified vendor list, a list you can find on the motherboard manufacturers support site for your board: www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B660M-GAMING-X-AX-DDR4-rev-1x/support#support-memsup, if its there for sure it works, if not, there is a big change it will work, but it may not. If you watched the video, I show you how to you can get both to work together, but because they are different CAS settings, its best to set the XMP setting to Auto, see if it works. If it doesn't work, enable XMP, see where it sets it to 16-18-18-38, then change it to manual, and change it to 16-20-20-40 at 1.35Volts also make sure you install the memory the way I show you..
I've tinkered with a few builds and had to try different things to get components to register. This motherboard does not like new ram. I've tried a couple things so far but here to see if there's anything else I can try. I've reset the cmos, and tried a few different configurations but in short no new ram will register and if I use only new ram it won't start at all. 😊
For now, what you can do, is change the memory from XMP, and set it to the lowest speed of all the memory, and the highest voltage of the memory.

Very interesting. Silly question: what if i have 6 Dimm slots, had 2 sticks installed, then bought 3 more to install. Do they have to be installed in pairs or can i get away with a odd number?

I got 2 x 8gb ram to add to my 2x 8gb ram that i already have in the pc and when i installed it my pc didn't start anymore the fans went on and off the whole time. I first removed the 2 ram sticks that I bought new and now everything seems to be working normally. I have now seen in your video that these numbers are important which are on the ram sticks on my old 2 ram sticks the last digits are 49 and 50 but on my new ones the last digits are 23 and 75 that means these new ram sticks are incompatible? or can I use them?
like I show you in the video, keep the similar RAM in the same channel/banks, then adjust the BIOS for the higher latency and higher voltage and you should be good, I never recommend missing RAM, but this may make it work, check out the video.
Man, out of curiosity :P ... when you play Metro Exodus Enhanced, you can get nice, clear graphics using raytracing... no tearing..image blurring...ghosting...?? It is this game that had me thinking of getting more RAM in the first place. Im on a 2070, 9700k, 16gb 3000mhz RAM, SSD... I changed "r_enum_ssaa 10" to "r_enum_ssaa 1" in CFG and turned off blur, mouse smooth/accel... medium quality, low RT, no DLSS or HDR... capped at 85 fps with "FAST" vsync and using RTSS. Blurry, ugly graphics. I cant get into the game. Just completed the first 2 redux games and loved them... but now downloading the original Exodus to see if it is better.
Well, RTX just started on the 20 series, so you won't be able to get much and the 9700K is not the workhorse it used to be, I just upgraded from a 9900K to a 5900X. Also, 3000Mhz is a bit slow, you probably want 3600 or higher, maybe 16gigs might not be the best for the OS and the game, especially if you have other processes running. I played more Metro Exodus, the enhanced version I use it to bench, and its a monster but Metro has always been a game that kills machines as it is not very well optimized. So, do you have the game on an SSD or a hard drive, I know you show an SSD, but probably that's the boot drive, turn VSYNC off and if you have Gsync or Freesync, enable it, also make sure you have your monitor set to the highest refresh rate, if not its at 60 or below.
@@ThisBytesForYou ah ok... i see. So my 9700k is not really future proof. I have the game saved on my C: drive (nvme m.2).... but I also have a separate SSD installed, I should transfer the game over to it? I have been using Gsync compatibility with my AOC monitor but disabled it as I felt it was causing bad stutter in some games, like Dragon's Dogma. Sure enough Fast sync seemed better. But I will try my Gsync Dell monitor and see if it helps too. I guess it is time to save for an AMD rig. I'll make the most of this system for now. Thanks for your advice _/\_
well yes and no, you can get more life out of it with a fresh windows install, but of course you will lose your files, I format every few months to keep everything nice and new. Use this video to make a brand new windows 10 thumb drive, with all the latest updates (although I recommend 11, not sure if your board supports TPM): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C759I7DBXd8.html then afterwards, once you are in windows, you will need to install all your drivers, you can follow this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8JuC_Dpm6-c.html All this will help your stutters, there is no such thing as future proof, if that was the case, my old IBM XT 5180 (the first computer for home) would still be top of the charts, intel and AMD would never need to release cpus nvidia and Amd would never need to release videos cards. As games release, they need more, so they make processors, video cards, ssd's, memory, etc that give it more.
What if I add 2 new 16g and keep the original 8 g. Let's say the original 8g pair is A1 and B1; should the 16g pair be placed in A1 and B1 and then put 8 g in A2 and B2? Or does that matter?
Hey great video, just subscribed! Haven't started on my first build yet but it'll be with an Asrock B650m-hdv motherboard. Fairly certain I understand the bois update process but the cmos battery removal is a nice tip to know just in case.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support my friend, it means the world to me and I am so very happy I could help you. This will help you on an Asrock board, should be similar: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FX5QmPMP4Bc.html
I have a problem where if I use any slot other than A1, the computer will not turn on/project to the monitor. All of the sticks work in A1, but will not in the other 3. The slots were tested and they all work, but the moment I put in a stick of ram it just refuses to just go. Motherboard is a Z490-A-Pro (MS-7C75).
your memory may not be listed in the motherboard QVL, but what I recommend is to use that 1 stick of RAM and flash your board to the latest BIOS version then try again.
I tried upgrading my system with 2x16gb 3600mhz sticks, but when I checked the speed it was only 2133mhz. So something probably needs to be adjusted in my BIOS. strangely, when I swapped in the original sticks, their speed is only 2400mhz despite being 3000mhz RAM.
Hey man thank you for the in dept tutorials. I just built this new PC having issues with it. I did not know about the SN with the sets. I just stuck all 4 in there. Was having crashing issues. I have 2 sets of 2x8 @ 3600. Once I put the matching sets together on their channels. It's been smooth. It makes sense, the matching set should go together on the same channel because they have been tested together. I hope from here it will be stable. All I can do is test it from here. Thank you

@kakashi7280 that's a possibility but have you checked the motherboard manual to see what banks they are supposed to be installed into, this is for about 90% or more of configurations but some are different. What is the manufacturer and model number of your motherboard and ram?
If I have 16gb (2x8) and want to go to 32gb (2x16) both at 3200hz will I need to do anything in terms of adjustments? I tried to just add two sticks, but it then wouldn't let the computer turn on so I just sent the other two back. I still want 32gb of ram, but I just want to replace the ram sticks I currently have.
watch this video, I go over matching the memory. The memory should be purchased together, but when it is not, even if its the same manufacturer and model number, you risk the memory not being compatible. The way I show you in the video to match the memory should help your scenario.
@@ThisBytesForYou so yeah that's kinda what I'm confused about. You show that the last few numbers are different and I just looked at mine and the two are the same (Probably due to being TForce ram) so does that just mean they were in the same pack? Yeah this probably does explain my issue I had though...I've watched dozens of videos and you're the first to point this out.
so, to save time, I cut it out, but its in the description. Not all vendors have it the same, some will have it in different sections. Get the memory side by side, there will be 1 number off, and that will be the date/lot code, or sequence, etc.
@@ThisBytesForYou gotcha thanks so much for the help and the video! I'll be saving this for when I change out the RAM in a few months, take care...you have a wonderful channel!
Awesome my friend, so very happy I could help you. A lot of people don't know this actually, but while I was a Product development engineer at Alienware and Velocity Micro, when we would run lines I found this out the hard way and I worked closely with Corsair, Crucial, Patriot and others to make sure we could get matching codes, it was a game changer. @@ThisBytesForYou No, I have two RAM slots on the motherboard of a computer, there is now a 4 GB RAM installed, now if I want to buy a new RAM, what will happen?
you will need to buy another 4Gig, but I recommend replacing that 4 gig and getting 2 x 8Gigs. What is the motherboard manufacturer and model number? @@mdgalib1802
@@ThisBytesForYou it's a Dell pc, Pc's model is Dell vostro 3670MT, the system information says the motherboard manufacturer is Dell and product is "0FPP7F" and the version is "A00". It's an old pc bought in 2020, cpu is intel i5 9th gen.
ahhh, ok, thats a little different. On the back, maybe the top, there is a label that reads "Dell Service Tag" can you give me that number? That tells me EXACTLY what is in your machine.@@mdgalib1802
It may, it may not, the bios thing makes it work and give it performance, totally up to you if you like performance and things to work. I saw may or may not, because every board is different and memory is different as well, what works for me on my board, may not work for you on your board but XMP.... it's pretty universal, since it is a standard.
it is, and the performance improvement is amazing... in my eagerness to make this video, I forgot to mention that hahah. Thanks so much my friend, I really hope you enjoyed this video.

Ughh, I just built my PC and put them in A1 B1.. instead of A2 B2 like you say and my manual say... My huge heatsink and fan on my CPU blocks me from taking them out without removing the entire heatsink and fan assembly and putting them in the 2 slots... I do not have any extra thermal paste, I dont have any issues atm with performance or stability but should I buy some new thermal paste and take them out of the 1 slots and move them to the 2 slots? Or is it not that big of a deal? It is an intel bases system if that matters. i7 12700k and Asus z690 D4 board
yes, I do recommend buying some extra thermal paste so that once you remove the heatsink, you can clean both surfaces and reapply. You don't have issues yet or that you know of, is your machine picking up the correct amount of RAM? It is a big deal since chances are you are running on single channel, and it would affect Intel and AMD systems alike because both have the memory controllers built into the CPU. You can leave it if you like, but I would not.
@@ThisBytesForYou yes it is picking up the full 32gb of ram atm, is there a way i can benchmark the before and after with some test to see the difference?

i didnt know about the purpose/usage of XMP before. on my current pc when i added more ram, i just changed the clock speed to what it was rated at(3200). there's a good chance i'm not running the optimal or rated cas latencies after watching this video lol.
I dont understand how i will be able to get the correct numbers on the back of the ram u cant just buy the right number so how will i buy another set of 2x8
no, you are right, you can't just buy the right number,... but RAM is usually sold in kits, USUALLY 2 sticks. So like I show you in this video, 1 set in 1 bank... and another set in the other bank... got it?
that is the way I recommend it, to buy them all in 1 shot. This doesn't mean both sets will be the same date and lot code, but its a better chance that they would work together than if you bought them weeks, months or years apart.
