How to Install and Partition Windows 7

This video takes a look at how to both install Windows 7 and also repartition your hard drive at the point of install.
We know that you can repartition your hard drive from within Windows 7 after you have installed and setup the operating system but you can also manage you hard drive at the point you install Windows.
It is important that you back up your important files and folders before you follow anything in this screencast video to protect your data.

formatting is for deleting everything on that partition, like documents, files programs.... and deleting is for deleting the partitions.

Very helpful! I found a lot of conflicting information about whether to delete or format a the system partition, or to simply leave it alone. Followed your steps and my computer seems to be doing fine. :)

if ur pc is still running you can open a cmd prompt and type chkdsk. A chkdsk will run a check of the hard disk for error and try to recover corrupted sectors. If it's getting lots of errors, go buy a new hard disk, if not stay in cmd prompt and type diskpart, it's is a command line utility for windows. Watch a few videos on creating partitions using diskpart utility and you should be able to install wins without having to mess with partitions, as you've already made them.

Question I always had, is it really necessery to create a partition by yourself? In my experience you can just delete everything and also you don't have to format anything because you simply reallocated it beforehand when deleting it. So you simply could delete everything and just click install? That always worked out for me, but was I in the wrong this whole time?

If the drive option is missing it means you should boot on your CD/DVD, there are tutorials here on youtube just search "how to boot on your CD/DVD"

It told me all the files I need to install are not on the disk but I bought the disk. now I've deleted everything as said in video and made situation worse .

Very helpful. "Deleting" partition sounds a little scary, but that's what you have to do when killing Linux.

Thanks for this, wasn't sure about the 100 mb system partition. Also for some reason my hdd kept disappearing from the partition windows install menu, partitioning took ages, and then my hdd disappeared.... I solved it by changing the data cable to a 6 GB data port on the motherboard. I'm not a expert so hopefully this may help other amateurs like me haha.

I saw an installation guide which advised that it is better to not allow the system reserved partition to be created, and gave a method by using a DOS command window in the repair section before starting the install. The article was not clear on why this was preferable--do you have any ideas on that?

The c is basically where you installed the windows, so where is the windows folder. And you only have to format drive c if you want to change windows. But if the computer was harmed by viruses, you should format all. I hope this helped
