How to install and setup GuiMods Hack onto the Victron Cerbo GX and how to install and setup Ruuvi Tags bluetooth temp sensors. GuiMods: github.com/kwi... Ruuvitags bluetooth temp sensors, www.ruuvi.com
Great tutorial. As a retired engineer, I have to really praise how detailed your steps were. Great job and thanks. You make installing and configuring GuiMods and Ruuvi devices simple.
This is exactly what I started looking for yesterday. I do not have the Tags, but I wanted the GuiMods to show all the additional information. When I was looking thru all the Readme Texts, it was way overwhelming, but your video made it VERY easy, and only took maybe 10 minutes to do everything, from looking for a USB drive, to verifying all the configuration. Thanks!
Awesome, glad I could help. Someone else sent me a pm and mentioned it only taken him 10 minutes to install. First time I installed this it taken me hours to decipher the info on the guimods web page.
Went back to this vid today as I’m updating my 2nd battery Victron setup in coming weeks. This is an excellent tutorial Phil thanks for your great presentation.
Brilliant guide thank you, I just got some Ruuvi's and was disappointed to find them not on touch screen, then I saw was a hack. But feared it would be too complex to setup. Nope followed your video, and simple, all done. Thanks
Thanks mate! While I have done some coding and such before I really could not be bothered reading through bulk pages on the forums to work out how to install this. You summed it up into a 5 min process for me and a few simple steps. Well done. I have my Gui Mod up and running. Thank you. Also i have the 7" screen and can agree that the 5" would be a bit small after using a friends 5".
Great job!!! I'm going to watch it again. Can you add instructions on how to remove the usb after installing the Gui. It's on the VRM online portal...microSD/ USB...EJECT. All good after that! Ours faulted when I removed it without doing this, so I had to go through the install process again.
Hi Phil. I am from Andorra (a small country in the Pyrenees) and I have a RU-vid channel (@kukyvetta) that is mainly watched by the Spanish and Latin American public, dedicated to DIY motorhomes. I am a fan of how the electrical system in my motorhome works and of the existing accessories to improve its operation. I just wanted to thank you for your excellent tutorials, tell you that you are a perfect teacher and that I follow you with pleasure and I will recommend you on my channel when I do the victron installation video that I am completing. Thank you, thank you, thank you, boy (as you say) with all my heart. A big hug from Andorra.
Great vid. I have Venus OS running on a Raspberry Pi with GUI mods and Ruuvi sensors. But I am getting ready to set up another system. Its been a while, so I was looking for a refresher. I saw your multicolor display of your Ruuvi sensors. Ive seen others do that too. But they never showed how. Thanks for covering that too
I received a couple Ruuvi sensors this week. I installed them in the two freezers on my sailboat. It was easy enough to connect them to the Cerbo via bluetooth and the data was immediately available on the VRM. In searched for a solution to display the data on the Remote Console and found this video. The process is very simple, but I had a few issues. When rebooting my Remote Console locked up. I had to disconnect power to restart the Cerbo. Following the instructions I rebooted it a second time before removing the thumb drive. The install appeared to be good. I was able to use the setuphelper to install the GUIMOD. I then noticed that I lost my Ruuvi data. When investigating that issue I found the Cerbo Bluetooth light was not on. When I looked through the menus I found that Bluetooth was no longer listed on the Settings menu and Bluetooth Sensors was no longer listed in on the I/O menu. I ended up uninstalling the GUIMODS and then the setuphelper. Still the bluetooth was not available. I cycled power to the Cerbo and bluetooth became available again. I was running v2.91. Any thoughts on why this might have happened?
I know there is some issues with the reliability with the built in Bluetooth. It is recommended to use a Bluetooth usb dongle on the cerbo gx. Victron recommends to deactivate the cerbos built in Bluetooth and use the usb Bluetooth dongle. Check victrons website for recommended dongle.
You should have tried rebooting the cerbo gx before you uninstalled the setuphelper and guimods. High probability that would have got the Bluetooth back.
@@PhilsCampingReviews Right! Just bought one and it was plug and play with the RPi. Thanks to your guidance I now have temperature displayed on the RPi_Venus
Added this to an owners system who bought some ruuvie sensors and while it worked and was kinda cool we lost VRM which we only found out when we got back to the UK; the boat is in Gibraltar! I managed to get a local engineer on board to uninstall GuiMods and then lost the analogue tanks in I/O, rolled back the firmware and still got no analogue I/O. I'm going to give the owner a new Cerbo as its too much risk to try and figure out what else may have been corrupted. As an amateur I'm happy to spend days and days playing with this sort of thing as a Pro its just got to work, be stable and be uninstall-able.
What happened to the Temperature Scale option? This was a major reason I installed GUI Mods so I could show Farenheit on my temp sensors. That's missing in my setup (v7.15).
Hi there. Thanks for the excellent explanations. I did it and it worked. In order to declutter the main page on the display, I selected an option to get the original victron main page back. Unfortunately, that also deleted the RUUVI-temp data on the secondary page, despite the RUUVI data are still visible in the menu. How do I get the secondary page (but not the primary page) to display the temps? Best regards from Switzerland, Silvano
@silvanocometta9760 the builtin dongle is not reliable enough to use the Ruuvi Tags. You need to pick up a cheap USB Bluetooth adaptor. Plug it into one of the USB Data ports on the cerbo GX. Than turn off the built in Bluetooth on the Cerbo GX.
@@PhilsCampingReviews i actually went the other way and and installed a later version and that version accepted the guimod hack. Thanks for the speedy reply. My ruuvi just arrived so I’m going to attempt a sync tomorrow. So far, so good.
Hello Phil's Camping, I just installed GuiMods on my Cerbo GX following your instructions and in principle everything is fine except that you can't see the current flowing on the main page between the different components. What could be misconfigured?
Great vlog thanks, quick question , will these mods allow the touch to control the multiplus if I don’t connect the remote panel? I’ve ordered the touchscreen but it’s not arrived yet!
You referring to the Victron Multicontrol? If so… yes. You can control the Multiplus on the touch screen also remotely via the Victron remote portal. I’m thinking about filming my next RU-vid video showing how I can control my system via touch screen, phone and remotely.
The Victron Multicontrol gives you full control easily especially ac input. Problem is you will loose all other methods of switching on and off and adjusting ac input. Guimods is a game changer for me. Guimods has added better control of my multiplus. If not for it, I would still be using the multicontrol. Now, having full control via touch screen. Phone and remotely is a great feature. I can lay down in my roof top tent, grab my phone and turn on or off the multiplus if I want to. And change ac input if I’m connected to shore power.
@@steveweaver3020 I have not tried a Victron Lithium, I know with the Victron Lithiums you purchase and use a BMS separately. Im not familiar with the VE BMS but a quick look online I see there is a plug, like a network plug for a remote panel. (Multicontrol) Does that have to be used? Can you not unplug it? I wonder what the consequences is if you do unplug the remote panel.
No. It's not, you need the guimods to have temp and humidity shown on main screen

Hello phil. thanks for the video. nice Job !!! I would also like to display the temperature in the camper and the outside temperature on the screen. my question is, what temperature sensor did you use?
Ruuvi tag pro are the sensors I used. They are Bluetooth temp sensors that are compatible with firmware 2.80 and above for the Cerbo GX. To get the temps to show on the main screen, you need GuiMods.
then the gui mod is the prerequisite for the Bluetooth connection to the ruuvi sensor? Too bad the ruuvi is not available in Germany. anyway thanks phil.
I got it installed but for some reason the battery temp isn't reading right. I can look at it on line and it seems ok but not on the remote console. Any ideas? Ruuvi's seem to be ok but not the temp sensors on the battery.
Which temp sensor? The Ruuvi or the Victron Temp sensor. If Victron Temp sensor, I had one that was out, victron replaced it for me, but there is a way you can adjust it, by logging in as a super user on your Cerbo GX and changing some settings for the temp sensor, I tried this on mine, but after a few weeks it started giving the wrong temp again. The Ruuvi tags are very accurate, If yours is out, I would contact Ruuvi support.
@@PhilsCampingReviews It was unused Victron Temp Sensors. I finally figured it out and I was to disable them so they don't show up. All is good now. One question, is there a way to change the colors of the displays?
Are you using the Cerbo GX built in Bluetooth? if so, that's probably your problem. Victron have recently announced it's best to use a USB Bluetooth dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth on the Cerbo GX.
Hello Phil, is it correct that by now the GuiMods are no longer required, as Victron recently updated the firmware to enable the Cerbo to accept RUUVIs automatically? If that is correct, which firmware update number is required? Best regards. Silvano.
Guimods is not needed to get the ruuvitags to work on the Cerbo GX, For Ruuvitags to work you need firmware 2.80 or above. What Guimods give you is having the temps show on the main screen and additional features such as power rating etc shown on main screen
By default if you want to check the temps. You have to go through the menus of Cerbo GX. With Guimods all the temps sensors can be viewed on the main screen without going into the menu
I installed shutdown monitored now the video screen doesn't work, can't even connect to VRM remote console anymore, how do I install the original firmware ? hopefully I did no brick the Cerbo GX
If you uninstall, it’s difficult to get back on. I’m not sure why. The only way I know to reinstall and get working again is to install via terminal on your computer. You have to log into your Cerbo GX as a super user first.
@@northeastcarpfishing you tried the procedure again after uninstall and it will not load package manager? Package manager is gone? I want to make sure this is what is happening.
@@northeastcarpfishing I warned about this in the video. What ever you do don’t uninstall setup helper otherwise very difficult to reinstall. As you’ve found out. You might need to get a computer tech now. He or she will help you with reinstalling setup helper via the command line from the Cerbo gx. You can find the procedure in how to do this here github.com/kwindrem/SetupHelper But you will need some experience in using dos commands and how to use the terminal on your computer.
Hi, thank you the install went without a hitch! Do you know how to get the bulk, absorption, float and ac in to light up in green like the inverting indicator? @OrganicPower-Australia
Thanks for the reply. They must have changed the code somewhere. Just took another look at your setup, they have replaced the circular indicators for words. Invert comes up green for me but bulk, abs and float are inactive? Anyone solved this? Cheers 😎
Ok, I will have to go searching for a setting on the Multiplus maybe? I wonder if it could also have to do with having multiple MPPT's? Do you have one tracker or multiple? Thanks again @@PhilsCampingReviews
