In our experience the only time you would use sand under the turf and on top of the base would be if you had a rocky subbase and wanted to use a fine screed layer of sand (1/16" to 1/8") to create a clean, smooth surface - but in that quantity it will do nothing for impact attenuation. If you use enough sand to provide some level of impact attenuation then you run the risk of having a lumpy surface. For impact attenuation we recommend a shock pad specifically designed for that purpose.

There are two options for seaming: 1. Seaming tape - here you an use a separate 12" wide seaming tape and a moisture cured clue or you can us a 6" wide double sided industrial sticky tape. 2. You can use 6" wide, 1" tall flat head sod staples every 3" to 6" or 5" nails every 3" on opposite sides of the seam. The turf is secured with either 5" nails every 6" along the perimeter or if you use the 2" x 2" bend-a-board we recommend a 1/4" wide, 1" long, 18GA pneumatic staples or something similar

Video is well done, Like the info especially the Benda Board Anchor strip. I use the 1X4 and get a great result as well. I'm finding bases are being cut back to conserve cost in highly competitive environments. Bad news as the results will be temporary. Thanks for your help.

Excellent video that explains the process perfectly for the average DIY homeowner to tackle the job. Appreciate the effort. Just one question, how do you do the blended grass install where you have low pile putting green surrounded by higher pile grass to make it look like a putting green with a fringe?

Sorry for the confusion - we simply refer to it by the same name that the manufacturer uses that produces the product. You can visit Epic Plastics website and click on bendaboard on the top left for a description of their products.

great video really purchase green... if the installation area acts as one great storm water runoff pit would a subbase of decomposed granite topped with artificial lawn allow for enough runoff or would water pool?

I understand where you're coming from (I think), but, in my opinion, the individuals that worked hard for their money and invested it in their company, thereby giving the "workers" a chance to make an honest living is more worthy of praise! God bless the workers too! (I was one as well!)

I hoping you’ll see this and can answer: we’ve been prepping our yard for turf and have everything cleared and tilled. We’re hiring out for the dirt removal/excavation and 2-3” base layer install. They are going to use 23a. Is that ok to use??? We were going to use 22a but they already have 23a on site and from what I read, it’s nearly the same but 23a has a little more clay. Will we be fine with 23a?? Thanks!!

I have a large pile of Caleche from a pool install (in Texas) and hoped a putting green would be an ideal way to get rid of it. Would well packed (in 2-3 inch layers) Caleche make an acceptable base if topped with 3-4 inches of decomposed granite? I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Note that this green is on a slope so I would have about 3 feet of sub base on the low side to raise it to a flat surface.

The class I just took on turf said never ever use crushed granite because its more likely to create bubbles in winter seasons. Also in the class road base was said to drain much better than crushed granite.

Crushed/decomposed granite also doesn't exist in my state nor anywhere I can find. I literally called industrial quarries at one point and they were like what's that.

I have left over DG , can I just use that as the base? It’s for a really small area 12 x 14 but will cut it in a triangular shape and one of the corners there’s a 1/4 circle (more or less planter) so there will be a lot left over. I could use a small piece of the turf but I don’t want seams. I don’t think I can find a small amount of road base for sale. Also if I decide to do a bigger section in the future , will the big bags of sand and gravel work as the base? Home Depot also sells small bags of paver base (there’s 2, one is a sand mix and the other is more crush rocks with sand) would those work ? I’m trying to not buy a huge amount sold by the scoop or 1/2 a scoop. It’s too much work carrying and unloading lol

Quick question. Love the video very informative going to use in my project today. Was wondering on average what do you charge or what’s your price per square feet when doing an artificial grass job?
@Purchasegreen
@Purchasegreen 3 года назад
Hi, Julio! Glad you liked the video. Price varies depending on the artificial grass chosen and installation methods (whether basic or premium), so the price of installation can be anywhere from $5-$10 per square foot. I would love to replace lawn with artificial grass, but I have a huge gopher problem. I am very concerned about them digging under and through base. Are there other measures that can be taken at the time of install to help with this problem? My husband and his friend built a 2-3ft garden wall and filled it in with 1-2 inch granite-gravel and some sand on top to build a flagstone patio. The gophers dug up through this even though there was nothing to eat there.

I read somewhere that you could put chicken wire down, before you do your weed barrier and base. I also noticed it's been two years since you ask someone this question,( hip hip to the business that made this video), have you laid your turf? And what did you do and how did it turn out?

Hi, Franky! We recommend excavating with sub-base because of native soil's tendency to expand and contract with the temperature. Installing artificial grass directly onto the native soil can cause the grass to move, resulting in ripples and wrinkles. If you have any more questions, feel free to visit our website to live chat with a Purchase Green employee.

My soul is clay and expansive soil yet I can't find an installer that agrees with me that I need a drainage base. They want to just label ground a nail the grass. I find that questionable.

Purchase green is Chinese made Shit.. Tiger Turf is by far a better option. real professionals use Tiger's pro series. One only needs to look at Tigers warranty program to know why to choose tiger. Also, be aware of who you hire to install your turf, look for a company that not only has a synthetic license, but also a landscaping license- almost anyone can obtain a synthetic license, the landscape license is much more time-consuming to obtain.. The sales pitch will tell you everything from an experienced professional to a rookie..

+djantwan027 Thanks djantwan027! We think you'll absolutely love our Eco Line of grasses made right here in the USA! Plus, you can check out any of our other 25+ grasses and select among several with premium TenCate fibers - you know, the fibers Tiger Turf uses. We also believe very much in warrantying our products. That's why we have the industry leading 10-year 100% warranty. You'll notice the other company's warranty is only 8 years at 100%. Then it goes to 50% for years 9 - 12 and down to 25% for years 13 - 15. We like to keep things simple, straightforward, and honest. So no pro-rated warranties hidden behind a big 15 YEAR slogan. You may be asking why we do a 100% warranty for 10 years while the other guys shrink to 50% by that time even though we're using the same fibers? It's simple. Our backing system is better. You can learn all about the grass families we produce, our domestic and imported lines, and how we only use the world's best yarns, and literally travel all over the world to acquire them, on our website at www.PurchaseGreen.com.
