MY FIRST TIME EVER for home improvement DIY. My college daughter wants to do this back flash ourselves she doesn't want us to spend too much money on remodeling our kitchen. This video looks so easy and simple. I think I will try to do the back flash after they installed our cabinets. WISH US LUCK guys!
@@JustinMacKenzie While we were waiting on our kitchen, we remodeled our 3 bathrooms. After that, my husband told me forget it! just let the cabinets guys install everything counter tops and backflash! we went with quartzite. I can post a short video of my kitchen. Still NOT complete yet! it's been 5 months! tomorrow they will finish up the cabinets! please check out my short vid before I delete it.
Those tiles look great. I have the same colour cabinets and white countertops and was looking at replacing backsplash with a similar tile. So now I know what it will look like in my kitchen. Good job.
Not to burst your bubble but it looks great. The problem I have is that it is backwards. The flat cut of the tiles is supposed to land on the granite or counter top. The missing hexagons in every sheet is supposed to go to the top since you can see it. I am just saying. Other than that, I feel guilty. I love it.
When you grout, you do a section, and then wipe with a damp sponge in one direction, and one pass, without putting pressure. You dip the sponge in the water and squeeze all the water out, then wipe once in one direction and repeat. If you leave any water in that sponge, it will affect the grout and color and may dig out your grout. This is a first cleaning as you go. Once the grout is hard according to directions, you can use a more wet sponge. You usually do a 3' x 3' area and then do this. In this case, you could do 4' of backsplash, wipe, then 4', then wipe, repeat. This just removes the excess, not the haze.
I just bought the same mosaic style tile (3” hexagon) , how did you cut the outlet out if the outlet falls in the middle of the piece? I seen you had the same situation in your video. Any tips would sure be appreciated! Thank you
Hey I used a angle grinder with a 4 inch tile blade to cut around the outlets. And a tile wet saw for all the strate cuts. Good luck on your project. Thanks for watching 👍
Is the Mapei type 1 mastic better than using thin-set? Should the first sheet be raised off the counter about 1/8" to allow for a caulk bead? I will be using a 2" hex brushed travertine mosaic from Floor & Decor and they tell me that i have to apply sealer before and after grouting. Is that correct? Thanks for the video... great work.
@@AZIMBAYO1 How difficult is it to for example remove white hex tiles from a sheet and insert colored ones and keep the grout spacing? I like that look I've seen before.
@@douglaswells2739 the tile peaces have to be the same size and same thickness then it will work. And the tile peaces are glued on a mesh backing. Its very easy to remove
I used 35 sheets in this area. I used a tile wet saw to cut one peace in to 2 half peaces. I used a angle grinder with a 4 inch tile blade to cut around the switches There is another video on my channel i install some subway tiles and it showes what i used to cut the tiles. Tile wet saw and angle grinder. Thanks for watching
Wow that’s a lot ! Do you mind sharing where you got this specific tile and how much it was per sheet . I’m looking at one similar and it’s 17.99 (do you think that’s really expensive ?) my kitchen has gold handles so this one . Where you able to rent those appliances or did you purchase them because I don’t want them forever lol?
@@HonestlyMichee this is not my kitchen i install the tile. The customer buy the tile at FLOOR AND DECORE. price was around 10 dollar per sheet. 17 dollars is too much.
Wow I am impressed with your work, very clean. I noticed that you used just a fine layer of mortar, no as I seen in similar videos. How thin should be?
@RobertLinthicum not on marble mosaics. All the thinset bleeds through the joints and you spend hours with a toothpick or tile spacer scraping out all the thinset before you can grout. 3/16 x 1/4 v-notched is the correct trowel for all your marble mosaics.
I can’t tell for sure, but that looks like a 3/8 trowell. You want enough mortar on the wall so that the tiles stick, but not too much that it bleeds through the space in the mosaics. When it does that you’ll have to go through and clean it out so that you have clear grout lines. Hope that helps.
Would it be easier to just run the full sheet on the saw, cutting a half row off, instead of cutting all of those half pieces to fill in along the bottom? same look when you're done.
Marble mosaic tiles are spaced 1/16, so you use unsanded grout color of your choice. The paste is called thinset. You can find both at any big box store or tile depot.
What size trowel did you use? I use 1/4 in. Square notch for subway tile but not sure what to use for mosaic because when I push the tile there’s quite a lot of glue that gets pushed into the grout joints
Did you grout the same day? The Tile adhesive I use I always have to grout the next day in order for it to cure. So I end up making less on the project compared to if I could grout same day
Great job. Your video inspired me to do the same for my home. May I ask the name of this 3 inch Hexagon Mosaic tiles? This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks.
What I do is I would have a hexagon tile removed from the mesh. I would place the next 12x12 meshed tile next to it and take a large piece of tile or wood and place it on top of the 12x12 and the single hexagon to hold it in place. Then use a 4" grinder with a tile blade and cut the single hexagon in half
I use grout to fill the space between the tiles. And wipe the surface of the tile with a grout sponge. I baught all supplies at THE HOME DEPOT. Thanks For Watching
