Just to let you guys know, I have been very sick, stuck in bed, for the last two weeks. I am finally getting better and the next video will be out this week! Thanks!
i wear gloves anytime i work on a customers car. It helps somewhat on getting minor cuts but also helps protect from oils and chemicals I tend to come in contact with. They have also saved me from customers coming back and saying I left dirty fingerprints in their car.
Horizon Farming I started to it drives me insane having wax on my fingers or oil and I can’t get them clean so I just take off the gloves I don’t use them for real extensive work but they cut the time of oil changes in half and make waxing your car not a pain if you hate stuff on your hands
Getting the S spring back in was probably the hardest part for me, great video! You can actually change the steel and clutch plate sequence (using 2 old ones) to “clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch-steel-clutch” this will make the diff lock harder and better, especially for drifting!
I've always been so intimidated by what looks like complex car repairs.. watching your videos has given me an insane amount of confidence that I can do my own work beyond the normal stuff I do (oil brakes etc.) I feel so much better not paying 200 an hour for someone to do something i can do myself! Thank you for making it so simple to understand and so clean to follow!
Chris, if you're reading this I want to tell you something. I don't have a car but I love watching these so I can prepare for he worst in my car. Thank you so much for all the stuff you do. Have a awesome day/night, keep up the great work man! Your videos are the reason I wake up. I rewatch then over and over to remember what to do when that situation happens. Thanks so much.
ChrisFix your good at fixing engines and cars could you please watch my video titled qualcast problems and tell me in the comment on my channel what it us thanks grate vides 👍 i commented 2 times to make sure u get it
Ah the sickly sweet smell of Friction Modifier, how I miss you! 30 years as a Lincoln Mercury tech, I have done a ton of rear axle rebuilds. Your video is spot on!
My car doesn't even have an LSD but these videos are so informative and so very well put together I watch them all anyway :D Keep up the good work Chris!
I'm getting a 95' GT 5.0 baby!!! Thanks Chris fix for all the hard work you put into these videos and now I know how to do everything you have done on your baby, you do well deserve over 2 million subscribers for all you have done for them as well thanks and keep up the great videos!!
ChrisFix bro my mechanic remove my car door panel inside plastic cover while he install speaker. Now i am getting road side smell inside my car. U know.anything about that plastic cover
This is golden! Not only is it a how-to on installing carbon fiber clutches, but the overall procedure is the exact same on replacing your old worn out clutches with new traditional clutches too. Thanks Chris!
Paint is an insulator and doesnt transfer heat as good as aluminum. Even if we increased the surface area, you still need something that transfers heat well. Great question!
I know how to do about 90% of the stuff can do, working in my families auto repair shops and going to school for autobody repair. But I still watch all your videos. They're very well done. Honestly you explain things better than my teachers even did. Keep it up man. I know this is an older video. But I subscribe and love them. Seems like all one take and done effortlessly. 👍👍👍
Hey Chris! I just wanted to say that all your videos are fantastic in general, not only informative but also entertaining! This video of the clutch pack replacement was especially informative and saved me HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS by giving me the confidence to make repairs to my differential myself instead of taking it to a driveline shop. I own a 1997 Ranger/Mazda 4X4 and it has the 8.8 inch LS axle just like your Mustang. At the end of last winter I noticed a slight "clunk" that reverberated through the driveshaft whenever the truck was in gear and I either accelerated or decelerated. I could tell that there was some slop in the driveline somewhere and eventually determined it was in the rear axle itself. Back in the spring the clunk got worse and I was beginning to think I'd end up having to buy a used axle to fix the problem, mainly because I knew taking it to a shop would be more expensive than most used axles go for. I finally got the courage to open up the diff. When I did, as the oil began to run out, pieces of metal started to fall out into the drain pan; my heart sank. When I finally pulled the cover completely off I discovered even larger chunks of metal in the bottom of the housing, a couple almost 1/4 inch in length. I cleaned everything out/off with brake cleaner and then inspected everything, totally expecting to find the ring and pinion messed up. What I found was that both of the spider gears had chunks out of every single tooth. I was surprised to see that the side gears had a lot of wear but no damaged teeth. As I looked further into the diff I was amazed, and relieved, to find that neither the ring or pinion had any damage to them. What's more, they showed very little wear and the backlash was extremely small. Yay! (Amazing considering the truck has 265,000 mi on it. Guess that running full synthetics plus my annual ritual of changing ALL of my truck's fluids annually has paid off.) Still, I sat back and thought to myself that replacing all the internals would be a major job (and required the removal of the entire carrier assembly) and probably required tools I didn't have access to. It's worthy to note that the Ranger is my ONLY vehicle, and I don't have a garage to work in, so doing any work that would take more than a weekend was a BIG issue. I decided to take a break, have a cup of coffee and see what I could find on the Internet about repairing the 8.8 diff. Lots of stuff written on some of the ranger only sites and a few videos showing rebuilding the differential with the carrier on a workbench. Everything seemed to indicate that I was in for a big job. Looking around RU-vid I got distracted and kinda went on a tangent away from my specific search (go figure! LOL). I saw one of your videos about something (I forget what) and watched it. Then I noticed the carbon fiber clutch pack video and decided to watch it just for grins. I got excited when I saw you were working on the ford 8.8 axle; exactly what my Ranger has! By the end of the video I realized that replacing the spider and side gears not only didn't require the removal of the carrier, but the job was just plain dirt simple! I cleaned the gears and housing up really well, counted teeth of all the gears, wrote down all the numbers on the ring and pinion, buttoned up the axle and filled it with fluid. I decided that as long as I drove like I was walking on eggshells it would last a few more weeks until I could order all the parts. Locally all the parts were ridiculously expensive and all had to be ordered in (I'm in BF Nebraska), so I researched specs and searched the Internet for the correct parts. I eventually found all the parts, clutch packs and gears, online (all Genuine Ford Parts) for right at $200 (over $400 locally for aftermarket parts) and got them ordered. Everything was delivered in just a few days and after having to dodge several waves of cold, rainy and snowy weather, I finally had a break and went to work. Interestingly, the set up; blocking and raising the truck, removing the wheels, collecting tools, draining the diff, etc, took MORE time than it actually took to pull the old gears and clutch packs, set up the new ones and install them in the carrier. All thanks to your video! You da man!! I can't thank you enough for giving me the knowledge and confidence to do this repair myself. PS: You might wonder how and why the gears got screwed up, I sure did. I watched a couple of vids on how a limited slip works and, after pulling and inspecting the gears and clutch packs, I think I figured it out. I had loaned my truck to a friend in the late spring and he told me that he'd gotten stuck in a mudhole out in the country (so much for just "driving to town"). Looking back I realized that it was not long after that was when I noticed the "clunk" had grown much worse. I figure he did a lot of tire spinning and slamming gears between first and reverse trying to get unstuck, before he figured out that he had to lock the manual hubs I'd installed in order for the four wheel drive to actually work. The clutch pack fiber and steel plates were already extremely worn and the LS couldn't have still been working, so when the wheels spun there was enough force to cause the spider gears to jump a tooth, chipping them in the process. Those chipped pieces probably contributed to further damage as well. All in all I got DAMNED LUCKY that there wasn't more extensive damage. Moral of the story? Don't make exceptions and DON"T loan your daily driver to ANYONE, not if you want it back in one piece! LOL
chris when you went drifting for the first time do you how how much stuff you had to do to get it ready to drift if you know please reply back and P.S your mustang is awesome
This Guy is GOOD! No wonder he got 2.4 mil subs. Way to go man. If I ever get some money, you can be sure I'll be putting some your way. Luv ur Stuff. I mean, I remember teachers who would explain stuff to me in the classroom and I'd just end up more confused than ever. You, Sir! Have an ability to explain (while demonstrating what you preach!), with so much clarity, my brain, far from being clogged and befuddled is just screaming out for more! If I carry on any more, I will be accused of being your brother, or your mother or anyone with a vested interest. I have no vested interest. I live in London. And this Dude is The Man! That's it. Better stop before getting accused of stalking! Maybe this guy isn't so good after all. My comments seem to vanish into the ether once I edit them. Let's see if this one disappears also...
Chris, you are a car newbie/enthusiast's dang hero! I talk to other people who work on cars and their first response: "oh that's a tough job, pay someone to do it" I search "how to .... on my ....": "ChrisFix!: Hey guys! This is how you can ... on any vehicle at home with common tools!" Love it!!!
As usual, great video. Just one tip, when you pull the axle out, don't let it rest on the seal as it can distort it. Better to just pull it out all the way or atleast have a jackstand and support it.
The clutch kit you got works on a 28 and 31 spline axle. The s spring in the kit is made for a 31 spline axle. I did the same thing as you and used the original s spring.
/I notice these comments are older. Today 7/30/2023 I watched this and the dual caliper install I find Chris to be an awesome instructor. Thank You Chris!!! Best of luck.
Ghibin Kim turbo being more reliable doesn't make any sense, because a supercharger is mechanically simpler. And sound is just preference. Some people, like me, like supercharger whine.
I live in New Jersey I have 2011 dodge charger be my guest 😀 it's not dirty but we need tricks or a proper way to keep the interior clean. Thank you for replying
R/autodetailing I detail as a side job, use a vacuum cleaner (I have a shopvac) to vacuum out loose dust, get some upholstery cleaner (I use Tuff Stuff, found at Walmart) and a steam cleaner for general cleaning.
Chris here is a comment that may brighten your day. At my job, a Ford mechanic walked up to me and said Mustangs are the easiest vehicles from his experience to service! I look forward to getting one too. He offered to help pay down on a Mustang GT that I had my eye on at the dealership.
Did this job today. Watched this video about a dozen times. Gathered up all the parts and it went very smooth. Hardest part was getting the car all jacked up. Thank you very much for a extremely comprehensive tutorial.
Hey Chris I am 12 years old and I have been watching you for about 3 years I am a big fan of you I have watched all of your videos I have got a Vauxhall corsa 1.3 to drive in and I want to get a mustang like you and go to car shows Yours seriously Ryan Mcinally
Literally makes me wanna get a mustang so i can have some step by steps to build it up. Your walk throughs make me feel like a pro when i take my car apart. Even though its a completely different car as well.
Hey Chris, can you make a video about maintaining leather seats?? It will be a good idea since almost everyone are starting to complain about how bad their leather seats has become over the years. And sorry for my bad English
It's inspiring/refreshing to see someone who is enthusiastic at their work and really good at it, and he's also helping at least thousands if not millions of people.
crazy thing is, I had a ford f150 and the differential went out on it. so I got rid of the truck, after watching this video, I now know I could have kept that truck and replaced my own differential, thank you ChrisFix
New subscriber, great vids and looking forward to more, this is the first time I've been impressed with/.. As a machine tool builder we mark the bolt and plate with a white marker so later you could check if/.. instead of just the top of the bolt, again good knowledge here on ur chan, just some thing to help those who are doing and showing the real deal..
I'm an old guy, for someone who worked thru the ranks you had to have an uncle, father, something to teach you how, you couldn't of just learned it, lol, thanks for teaching true knowledge, it helps thousands..
