I wish I could like this multiple times. Thank you for such clear, concise (and absolutely working) instructions on how to do this. The errors I was getting from other guides was absolutely maddening. Cheers!
Not sure why you would want to change from 16bit or 32bit colour colour *down* to only 256 colours... 256 colours is hardly 'high colour' mode. Even so, the rest of the video helped me out when I was stuck, so great work!
After the installation of Display Doctor and activating the new driver I changed color depth to 256 and resolution to higher values gradually to 800x600 and then higher. This locked up the WIN95 startup at the first change until I did a VM "hard" power off, followed by a restart of WIN95 in the VM machine. The "hard" power off is of course a soft command to the VirtualBox Manager to "Close/Power Off" the WIN95 emulation. This is also described in the video. I did not have to do any changes to any settings at all. Following the power on command to the WIN95 emulation new changes of colour and resolution works flawlessly. A subsequent colour/resolution change seems to work not needing "power on/off" sequence by the VM-emulator to take hold. No need to remove any drivers in safe mode. Instead do the power on/off sequence in the VM-emulator and allow the WIN95 to do a normal start if it gives any error message during initial start up sequence.
After adding protocol, Microsoft, TCP/IP and restarting. I opened internet explorer and it shows a different pop up saying: Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site (entersitehere) The connection with the server was reset. any way around this?
The display driver doesn't work, when I installed it and re-started, Windows becomes stuck on the loading screen part and cannot process it. I had to go to secure boot and delete the program just so Windows can boot up normally in 16 colour mode. The online method works great though.
@@FlintG Ye, I tried installing the display drivers again, it bricked the VM, so I no longer have win95, nor do I want to play with it. Installed 98 and so far no issues.
after i installed the graphics drivers and restarted the system, it froze on the boot screen, so i had to reboot in safe mode and disable the driver, any ideas or help on how to get it working?
after i restart from the display settings i get in a screen with different boot settings every time i press normal start it gives me windows protection error and the only way i can get in is with safe mode is there any fixes
bro it's still showing the same error on the internet explorer and how do i drag and drop any games or songs or files into windows 95 can you make a video for that :)
ATTENTION EVERYONE: If you install the display driver and it either hangs on next boot / BSOD's reset the VM. It will then tell you Windows wasn't shut down properly. Select safe mode, and then go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Software -> SciTech Display Doctor and remove it. It will then tell you to reset. Do it. It will be fixed. Unfortunately, you will not be able to achieve more colors and higher resolutions, so yeah.
Better yet follow the tutorial made by the channel "MS-GIL" using a better driver instead of SciTech that will not install unnecessary programs in your Win95 or 98. The current channel "HowToIT" helped me to finish the installation of windows 95 so I'm really grateful for that but SciTech is not a great recommendation.
Mulțumesc! M-ai ajutat, fiindcă și eu am vrut sa fac un fel de "Viața din 95'", și aveam probleme cu instalarea. Edit: (Sorry, but i has thinking that Google translate what i was writing, but it hasn't) Thanks! You helped me, because I also wanted to do a kind of "Life from 95 '", and I had problems with the installation. 👍
Thank you so much for your videos. It was of a great help. I was having some audio problems (the sound was cracking a bit) so I installed the RealTek drivers running with IHC AC97 controller. My only problem now is that I get to successfully install all of my games but, some of them (i am assuming the ones that runs thru directx) are giving me an error message "beta direct draw expired. please update". The weirdest thing is that some games runs normally but with no audio (it has nothing to do with the realtek driver because I also tested it running with the Soundblaster controller). It plays the video sequences normally and all. Is that any way to solve that?
I watched both videos and everything was going really well until I made it to 5:32 and I got an error from Guru meditation saying " a critical error has occurred while running the virtual machine and the Machine execution has been stopped" When I turnee on the virtual machine it gives me the option to start in safe mode or normal mode but normal mode doesn't work anymore :-( I was so tantalizingly close to playing a game that I hadn't played in over a decade but I needed to have the 256 colors in order for it to work correctly
Thanks man. That really helped a lot! EDIT: Anybody has a solution to get directx working properly? I want to play my old games, but I have problems with the directx. Thanks in advance.
I cannot get that SciTech driver to work for the life of me. The best I can do is pick a generic Super VGA driver under the (Standard display types) manufacturer, and it'll bump the maximum resolution up from 640x480 to 800x600. It'll do until something better comes up. Internet works though, so I'm happy all in all.
After installing SciTech in Windows 95 and then opening Display properties I do not have the option to click on advanced properties. I do se a tab that says SciTech Display doctor so I'm pretty sure it installed. I also see an alert that says "Graphics adapter not detected". Also if i click on the SciTech tab it just disappears. Appreciate the effort you put into making these videos!
@@howtoit3291 Here it just makes a protection error when booting up the VM. Can restart and boot into safe mode. Reset it to the vga 640x480 and still get a protection error. nothing helps. just keep making a protection error when starting up normal
After changing the adapter and rebooting, it freezes on the Windows 95 logo boot screen (in Normal Mode). However it does sucessfully boot in Safe Mode. Do you know the reason why?:
yep going to need this🤞 I haven't got oracle vm manager????edit- I got monkey island working kudos but I can not find the vm manager on my PC all i have is the win95 vm any help would be apricated I think i need to turn off 3d acc
I get Bluescreen right after installing choosing the driver. Now when i reboot it says "Windows procetion error. You need to restart your computer.". Im only getting into windows via safe boot now. Had to change back to the standard driver.
ok so after i change the display settings i go to reset i dont get that screen where u say to turn off the 3d thing i just get the windows screen and nothing happens
sadly but internet still doesn't work + my mouse is still laggy, not so smooth as yours :< UPD: I tryed internet again - it worked! Thank You! but mouse still laggy
256 color won't work because the Windows 95 iso is missing Powprof.dll in windows system folder. Can you please add a link to this video to download this file?
when I change advanced properties, my virtual machine won't boot. When I start it comes to the loading screen where it says windows 95, and it gets stuck. Can someone help me?
i followed step by step along with video i got a blue screen after the restart of downloading scitech. then pushed continue. it took me back to desktop. i did the rest of the instructions to add drivers. applied. then restarted and mine froze on the windows 95 boot screen. (edit. i uninstalled driver and scitech and it boots now.)
after installing that driver, and before configuring the graphics properties, I can a blue screen on boot for exception 0D. After configuring the properties I hang on boot. any ideas?
@@stefanrider1669 I GUESS that you intend to say "Depending on the actual host processor you have - select the corresponding line and at the command prompt input type ""VBoxManage modifyvm 'whateverwaschosenasVMname' ......"Inter Core ix-xyzw(a)"". Is this the correct assumption? Btw my processor is Intel i7-6700K and the installation worked flawlessly. No problems noted.
@@gorannilsson4798 Not exactly. This command is instructing the vm software to emulate the host processor as a different specified processor. The list of examples I included were known supported processors. This is useful for individuals with non supported processors like most AMD chips. Ex. I used this command to emulate my Ryzen 5800X as a i7-6700K.
