So, after searching unsuccessfully for weeks trying to find a “how to install e-tracks into a cargo van” video I decided to make my own for you guys out there.
With some time and a little bit of skill anyone can do this. It took about 6-8 hours because I was working on the van before and after work.
Be safe when operating tools and equipment. I’m not responsible for any damages or injuries. Have fun!
Things needed:
1. Goggles amzn.to/3aBem2l
2. Gloves amzn.to/3buPnip
3. Ear plugs amzn.to/2S2P2f8
4. Two (2) 10ft E-tracks or the amount you need amzn.to/2XZ4LQe
5. Utility knife amzn.to/3eHANWL
6. Torx bits to remove plastic covers at the back and side doors. amzn.to/3bqDLNf
7. Drill amzn.to/3bqDLNf amzn.to/3cx6xvQ
8. Drill bit set (1/16”, 5/64”, 1/2”) amzn.to/3avIb4j
9. Chisel ( to notch out the wood so the wood can lay flat on the tracks) amzn.to/3atMRHU
10. Hammer amzn.to/3au4vLz
11. Socket adapter for impact driver amzn.to/3cGcZk2
12. Circular saw amzn.to/34VS3Tu
13. Jig saw (optional) amzn.to/2Vu4GlF
14. Measuring tape amzn.to/2Vyjmk1
15. Vacuum cleaner (optional for cleanup) amzn.to/3bwi3Y7
16. Knee pads (optional)
17. Nose masks
18. Router (optional) ( to notch out the wood so the wood can lay flat on the tracks)
19. Pencil/Marker/Pen to make marks
WALMART (non affiliate link)
20. Krylon Rust protector bit.ly/2Kt4xbO
HOME DEPOT (non affiliate link)
21. Two 3/4” plywood 4x8 thd.co/3ay7IcS
22. 1.5” #14 Teks Self tapping screws (2 packs of 50) thd.co/3cDv16E
23. Straight edge for cutting wood straight. I used a 1x3 piece of wood. thd.co/2SfMNVZ
HARBOR FREIGHT (non affiliate link)
24. Impact Driver bit.ly/351w3a6
25. Ratchet and socket set from Harbor Freight(Sockets used 3/8” and 13mm) - bit.ly/3eHZRN7 has torx bits, hammer, etc.
Removing the floor mat
1. Remove all items from cargo area.
2. Cut out any areas with a razor that will prevent the mat from being removed.
3. Use torx tool to remove plastic cover at back and side door.
4. Take the mat out.
5. Remove the insulation a bottom of mat. (optional).
6. Set the mat on the side if you want to place it back int the van.
7. (Optional) I cut the mat into 3 pieces and place the mat on the 2 sides and center of the track after the track was installed.
Installing E-tracks to the floor
1. Figure out where you want your tracks. I placed mine in the center where I had 2 joints (the rising parts) showing on the floor.
2. Use the marker and mark out where you want to put the screws. I’ve placed 4 screws every 2-2.5 feet.
3. Use the 1/16” drill bit to carefully drill pilot holes for the 1.5” #14 self tapping screws.
4. Use your impact drill or drill with 3/8” socket and screw the screws into the predrilled holes. I suggest measure the distance from a set location so you will install the track as straight as possible.
5. Vacuum metal shavings to prevent cutting yourself.
6. Repeat for the other side.
Installing 3/4” plywood
(I used a full 8 feet length at the back and the remaining 2 feet at the front. YOUR MEASUREMENTS MAY BE DIFFERENT)
1. Figure out if you want the wood the same shape as the floor (jig saw needed) or just make straight cuts like I did.
2. Make your measurements. NOTE: Measure twice cut once!
3. Reinstall the mat if you want to.
4. Use the circular saw with a straight edge to cut the plywood.
5. Dry fit the wood and make sure everything looks good.
6. Mark screws location on the side of the wood.
7. Notch out the wood to lay flat on the track.
8. Use the 5/64” drill bit to drill a pilot hole screw the wood into the floor.
9. Use the 1/2” drill bit after 5/64” to create a counter sink hole. DRILL SLOWLY TO PREVENT DRILLING A LARGE HOLE INTO THE WOOD AND FLOOR.
10. Screw the 1.5” #14 self tapping screws into the plywood to the floor.
Protecting the holes from rust
1. Go underneath the van and spray the holes created with the rust protector (I used) or rubberized paint.
NOTE: Do so safely on a flat solid surface. Make sure your key is out of the ignition and in your pocket, hand brakes on, the car is in park and chock the wheels.
Done!

6 months update: The E-tracks are still holding up good! As for the plywood... they’re chipping on the edge because I’m moving items in and out of the van frequently. To prevent this I would suggest routing the edges because it’s hard to chip a rounded edge. I also placed an aluminum 90 degrees corner plate from Home Depot at the back of the plywood to prevent chipping. If you’re in the moving business, I would recommend cutting the wood to the exact dimensions of the van to prevent different levels of floor which makes sliding things in out a little difficult.

Is there someone who can help with this? Do the people at home depot know how to help?
@chetyoung7409
@chetyoung7409 3 года назад
@@Floof_Factory unfortunately there aren’t many resources that I know about that will install E-tracks. It’s not too difficult.. I tried my best trying to help... just be careful when drilling in the screws... avoid places where the screws can damage. Other than that you should be good!

Hey man! inside your transit you have the wood strips mounted onto additional wall supports. Did you do that or is that an option that Ford offers? Or aftermarket?

Silly question: after installing the etrack, how’d the wood floor fit? It appears to be fit underneath the etrack. Video wasn’t clear on this. Thanks for video!
@chetyoung7409
@chetyoung7409 Год назад
The etracks are below the wood. To make it easier you can put the wood on the side of the etracks.

Thanks man, I have to do that to my promaster . Did you have any problem with screws hitting wires or gas underneath the van ??
@chetyoung7409
@chetyoung7409 2 года назад
No, I haven’t had any problems! I looked underneath to see how much clearance I had from wires and fuel lines. Ford did a good job spreading out everything underneath the truck to prevent them from being hit. Measure your clearance between the floor and all of the objects that you don’t want to hit. Also pick a position for the Etracks with the least amount of obstacles. All the best! Look twice drill once!👍

Can I pay a trailer body installer or someone to do the etrack installation in my van? I dont have the tools or etracks but I dont mind spending a little money
@chetyoung7409
@chetyoung7409 3 года назад
I’m not sure if anyone will install E-tracks in your van. Call around to places that service and sell trailers and accessories and ask them if they would install them. Some people weld their E-tracks in too. Idk how I feel about welding them down. I bought my 10ft E-tracks (less work than having to cut and install several individual pieces) from Trailer Plus here in Arkansas. They are nationwide! Good luck! If all else fails, buy yourself some cheap tools from Harbor Freight and get it done! Be careful!
