In this video, we showcase how to install and format a micro sd card to show in the storage section in the steam deck settings. We showcase doing this with a 1TB Micro SD Card. Twitter: / steamdeckgaming Discord: / discord #SteamDeck
Just fyi there are alot of fake SD cards being sold on the web right now that don't work on the steam deck just make sure you get it from a reliable source such as Amazon from Amazon seller 3rd party sellers are likely to be fake I bought one myself tried everything with the steam deck trying to format it etc but would not work
@@buster5661 it could very easily be that valve made it so that lower quality sd cards won't work intentionally so you don't complain to them its working badly when it in fact is working fine your SD card is just shite
No fluff, no mess, no annoying music....just straight to the point. BUT, you earnt a sub from me for asking to like and subscribe at the END of the video, once we had seen the content. Nice one mate!
@@SteamDeckGaming about to pre order a steam deck 64gb model and just getting a SanDisk extreme 512gb will elden really ring a open world game run pretty much the same on ssd vs micro SD idc about faster loading times or instal times just performance in game I'm new to PC so any advice would be appreciated
@@Spencerwalker21 Not played/got Elden Ring, but I've got a 64gb with a 512 card, and I've had no problems so far on games like No Man's Sky, Doom 2016, Horizon Zero Dawn, which are quite beefy compared to sopme of the other games I've been playing. Performance is great, loading times are fine.
Thanks for this video, I got my 1TB micro SD Sandisk Extreme (color gold) for sale from Amazon since I figured it has faster write speeds. I have been using Sandisk brand all the time for other electronic devices so I hope this speedy card will be a good investment for running games.
Thanks for the video Ima order my steam deck next week and buy a1TB myself it’s not alot of videos actually explaining the simple things but I appreciate this video bro
Thank you, I kept hovering over the "Format SD card" button, thinking it was the internal SD card for my Steam Deck.. So your video helped me confirm I was being foolish lol.
I had a similar issue but my SD Card had a TON of stuff already on it. I wasn't goin to move and reformat and move everything back!! lol!!! IF you copy/create the folders that Steam uses for your library into your SD card you can make it detect it as another library. Copy/create the folder structure onto /run/media/YourSDCardName/SteamLibrary/steamapps and then create the subfolders (common, compatdata, downloading, temp, workshop). Then move one game over from my main installation along with the manifest .acf file for that game. I moved it over from my main steamdeck install (ie; /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps). In my case I moved the MeatBoy game over using filezilla and the app manifest .acf for it (just open each one and you'll find the one for the game you choose to use). I actually used filezilla to copy it to my Windows Desktop and then from there back to the SDCard. I restarted the deck, steam detected the files and once it all loaded up, there it was on my storage settings and labeled as a Steam Library I can install to.
Anybody know how to stop steam os from making the sd card the primary drive upon each reboot? I manually set my main ssd to it, but whenever I reboot it goes back to the microsd card having a star on it.
I bought a sp 1 tb mirco sd card and when it format it says error i keep trying to format it then it works reads the 1 tb but it won't unmount or work with windows anymore. I have to force the system to unmount it then put it in my switch format it then it works again i have yet to have a successful mount and format not sure what is going on.
Yeah, it seems unfortunately it uses ext4. This does have some advantages in regards to preventing data corruption, but it makes it incompatible with most non-linux devices.
you would either have to swap in/out for the games that are on the 64GB card or just re-download them onto the 500GB card. Or move them to internal before changing the card. Although I don't recommend moving games if you can help it, it sometimes corrupts and you have to re-download it anyway
I bought a 1tb sd and it didn't work. It would be good to see a video where you say that memories are formattable since there are some failures and put the purchase link
Please can anyone help me, this only work on the game mode. But when i try to install a game from Lutris/ launchers like ea for example, the storage is set to the ssd that came with my steam which is only 64gb so it wont download. How can i make the micro ssd work on desktop mode?
What should i do when it gives me an error when formatting and it asks me to retry, retried 4 times still not formatted i just get an error message :,(
@@SteamDeckGaming I haven’t tried on a pc but in desktop mode on steam deck it picks it up. I’ve tried different sources to get it to format but I don’t have a windows computer to see if it picks up on a pc
we have a guide here for installing the EGS app and for it to be able to see the SD Card ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3G8g4py4rxw.html
I have a 400 gb micro sd card, but I’ve used it to download games and emulators on my Windows PC. How could I transfer all my files in the card to the steam deck without having anything deleted or corrupted?
I thought it was easy. I tried mine and it wouldn’t format so I tried on a laptop and it pooped from existence . Looked up ways to recover but just ordered another and returned the dead one . Fingers crossed
