Hey, Jai! The window the the right of my browser is a program called "Terminal". If you are on a mac, you already have it installed and ready to use. To open it, you can type "command + space" and the search bar should appear. Type "terminal". Alternatively, you can find it in your "Applications" folder. While i'm not sure the year/specs of your Macbook Air, you should be good. If anything, the JVM will try to run itself and if it can't it will shut itself down without harming your computer.

Minecraft actually comes with a special version of java specifically for it so you didn't have to do that
