This is how to install recessed lighting in an existing ceiling without attic access. This will replace an existing light fixture. I will be upgrading a flush mounted light fixture with a canless LED recessed light.

My friend, everyone’s wiring will be different depending on many things such as connections made down stream, light switches, etc. other than that, it’s just connecting black to black and white to white.

For those, who ask about witing it. He had 2 main wires (1 one coming from the electrical box to yhe light, and abother one from yhe light to the switch). Each of those 2 wires has 3 individual wires inside. You end up with 6 individual wires. 2 ground (green), 2 neutral (white), and 2 hot (colored, black most of the time). The led light will have a plastic connector with 3 slots. You need to group your wires by color and insert into a corresponding led light connector slots. Connect both white wires into white coded led connector, both green wires to grounf led connector and your colored wires (black, red, purple) into the colored led connector (normally red). You will end up with one extra slot on each connector. You dont need it if you simoly replacing yiur existing light, its reserved gor any additional led lights in case you want to comnect them in series. Hope it helps.

Yes, it does. One question, could my ground wire be bare? Like not colored?

So the previous light has a positive, neutral and ground so you use the metal junction box for the new connections.

What kind of approved NM box connecter did you use? OR did you just run the wires through the knockouts, exposing them to the sharp metal edges of the junction box?

This didn't show the unmounting the junction box from the attic, generally always these electric boxes are fixed to a 2x4 stud that can only be reached from inside of the attic & then can be pulled out from the attic not prying it out from the bottom.
@EnoughAboutCars
@EnoughAboutCars Год назад
That’s not correct. Most people do not need to go into there attic to replace a light fixture like this.
@JoeyBenstein
@JoeyBenstein Год назад
@@EnoughAboutCars Well yes there are cases you have no choice then to go into the attic to remove the junction box being they are nailed to a 2x4 or 2x6 stud joist, you can not just go straight up through the ceiling on older homes to remove a junction box being it's plaster less person wants to cut out a hole size of a volleyball which makes no sense rather then damaging that much plaster it's better to into attic removing the nails from the stud then disconnecting the wires as well then remove the box & install a new one it has to be nailed back in place from the attic & wires reconnected, if person is only installing bucket light recessed lighting then there are clamps that are attached to bucket light then pushed into ceiling without having to worry about renailing anything to a stud, nonetheless different applications for different lighting but regardless nails have to be removed from old junction boxes from the attic you can't just pull down on existing box from ceiling it's fastened by nails.

Break / bend by pushing up the box, sometime will loosen the nail, if not put your hand inside and cut the metal with metal cutter
@Mixwell1983
@Mixwell1983 Год назад
For the. New work blue boxes and what ive had to do is take the gripping end of a hammer, pound the crap outta it to break the nails free that are into the joists/studs and then you're free. I swapped a basic light bulb fixture for recessed and had to use that method to get the new work box outta the way.. I should explain, you take a hammer, turn it upside down where the handle is connected to the box, metal is downward and then take another hammer and tap it up. It's either that method or you have to get in your attic and actually remove it manually push to be a real pain in the butt

@@EnoughAboutCars thanx for the tips ! I also think recessed LED is my preferred options. My builder said they need to make a false ceiling if built-in recessed lighting are to be installed. I found is quite strange , one cannot install recessed directly into the roof wall ? so they said they will find some flussh mounth thiner that look almost like recessed Led, what you think of all the reason they bring forth ? :) thanx
@EnoughAboutCars
@EnoughAboutCars 3 года назад
@@francis87589 without being there, it would be hard to say for certain. However, my gut tells me your builder is only considering installing recessed lights with the can. The can that traditional recessed lights use requires more attic space. However, if you use canless recessed lights, you only need a few inches of attic space. I would suggest brining up that option to your builder and see what they say.

If unable, or you just don't want to get into attic or ceiling space, as a carpenter, what I've used is a hacksaw 'blade' in a vice-grips, (locking plyers). So, as not damage any hidden wires above, (you can't see them), only use 3 or 4 inches of blade. Then simply saw between the box and the joist or rafter. The nails will release fairly easily. Usually there are two. Optionally, you can do the same with a metal cutting blade in an oscillationg saw if you have one. In my opinion, EVERYONE should! It's got to be my top 3 favorite tools!! : )) If the box has protrusions, and you're unable to pull out the hole, you can just push it uo and out of the way.
