I have the Google Pixel 8 here and in today's video I'll be showing you how to install the LineageOS 21 custom ROM on it.

To begin, you first need to make sure the phone has Android 14 installed on it. Since the current stable version of LineageOS is based on this version of Android.
You also want to make sure you don't have another custom ROM installed on the phone. So it's best to use the Android Flash Tool to get back to the stable stock version.
The LineageOS team also recommends that you boot into Android 14 at least once, if it's a freshly formatted device. Check to make sure that SMS works and that you can send and receive phone calls. Since some devices require VoLTE/VoWiFi be utilized once on stock in order to provision the IMS.
In order to install LineageOS on the Google Pixel 8, PIxel 8 Pro, or Pixel 8a, you will need to have the bootloader unlocked.
Next, make sure that you have Developer Mode enabled so that you can enable the USB Debugging feature.
You will also need to have ADB & Fastboot tools installed on your PC since we use those to flash the files.
Then, you'll want to download three different LineageOS files for your specific device.
YOu'll need the boot.img file, the dtbo.img file, and the vendor_kernel_boot.img file
These files can be found on the download page for your phone on the LIneageOS website.
With those three files downloaded, go ahead and reboot your Pixel 8 into Fastboot Mode.
Then we open a command prompt, a windows powershell, or a terminal window within the same folder as our ADB & FAstboot tools
And be sure we have those three linageos .img files in that same folder as well
we'll start by executing this command. . .
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then we execute the command. . .
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
and finally we execute the command. . .
fastboot flash vendor_kernel_boot vendor_kernel_boot.img
Now that those three files have been flashed, let's go back to the LineageOS download page and grab the vendor_boot.img file
Put that file into the same folder as our adb/fastboot tools
And while the pixel 8 pro is still in fastboot mode, we execute the command. . .
fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img
We're going to use the hardware buttons to reboot to recovery so that we can confirm the installation went smoothly
once we have verified that the lineageos recovery was installed correctly, we can download the actual LineageOS firmware from the download page
while in lineageos recovery, we want to perform a factory data reset as this will remove the encrypted data from the phone and get it ready for the lineageos firmware
we're going to stay in lineageos recovery here
and we're going to sideload the lineageos firmware
so let's select the apply from abd option
and we're going to execute the command. . .
adb -d sideload filename.zip
the best way I can recommend you type all of this out is to simpy begin typing the name of the file, and then press the tab button so that it auto completes it for you
once it completes, let's reboot back into recovery mode for those who want to install any add-ons
magisk being a popular option, but this is not required
it's important to note that installing add-ons like magisk will tell you that the signature verification has failed. this is an expected error since it isn't signed with the LineageOS key. so just tell it to continue with installing the file
so flash magisk or any other add-ons if you want. otherwise lets just select the reboot system now option and finally boot us into the LineageOS custom rom on the PIxel 8a
