Hi Everybody and welcome back to another video. Today's video is another tutorial on How to Install LUTs on the Atomos Ninja V. Is a very easy process and I will show step by step how to do it and also explain some of the advantages of having LUTs on any of your Atomos devices. For this video I will be using the GHAlex LUTs that are made for the GH5 and also he has another pack for the Black Magic Pocket 4K. So you can’t put a conversion Lut into it, then some color grades to apply after? It looks like id have to take a Lut, then color grade it, specifically for the Atamos. lol they need to let you combine the grades in there

Hello. Nice lesson. I have a question. On the top right of the screen it blinks in red, it says pre roll. Do you know what that means?

Thats an option in the menu which will cache a few seconds of the footage in the memory before you hit the record. You can disable it. This is more action sequences or b-rolls in which the atomos detects that there is movement in the capture and it grabs the first few frames this way you can see a couple seconds before you actually started recording this way you can adjust your start.

Thanks for the video. Question... You said not to have "dual recording" on, because it burns the lut onto your image. Isn't that the purpose of having the LUT? I just bought the Ninja V, and I'm learning how to use it.

You can use it to monitor the way the final result might look like at the end .. if you think that the way it looks on the Ninja V is fine and doesn’t need any more corrections you can burn the LUT when recording but if you have to retouch the footage is going to be more difficult to correct a LUT than a LOG file, thats why I recommend to not burn the LUT into the recording and use only as a guide to monitor your colors and exposure.

Don't forget to leave a LIKE 👍 .. Atomos has release the latest firmware 10.5 for the Ninja V that gives support to Apple ProRes Raw and to the Z Cam, so make sure you update to the latest firmware .. great video! I´ve installed update 10.57 on the Ninja V and tried to import luts like you showed but when I'm trying to select one, I can't even tap the folder button (inside the atomos Ninja V menu). It's deactivated somehow and I don't know a workaround. The Luts are still in a folder in the caddy thou. Can you help me?

Check if the LUTs are working on your pc also there is a previous comment that I went through the steps to check why they were not working.

They have to be 3D LUTs to work on the Ninja V. Try formatting the SSD in the PC and add the LUTs if not try formatting on the Ninja and then adding the LUTs. This is the guide you can find more info on page 30 .. downloads.atomos.com/ninja-v/NinjaV-UserManual01-NOV2018.pdf

They are in .CUBE are there any other 3D luts? Thought they're supposed to work. Gonna reset the ninja v altogether and try it on 10.56 again

One more question for ya. If I shoot on pro res 422 or even pro res raw, and I have to convert it into another format for the purpose of editing (because my current software doesn't import pro res), what is the best format to convert pro res to for the purposes of video editing, without losing quality? Thank you.

Pro Res codec is to heavy on computers, you going to get the best quality but the editing is going to be long if you don't have an Apple computer or a strong Windows PC. I usually use DNxHD on my Ninja V and video quality is great and an easy codec to work with in any computer.

Hey there, Thanks for the video. I'm having issues with my ninja inferno with a gh5. I've uploaded the .cube luts onto my ssd and once I go into the LUTS settings on the Atomos. The blue folder is greyed out and I can't see what is on the ssd. Would happen to know what issue I am having?

Where are creating the LUTs .. Premiere, Final Cut, Davinci ?? .. Another what pc are you using Windows, Mac .. If the folder is not available either your CUBE files are not saved correctly or your folder might be corrupted. You should save any files in the SSD and perform a format from the Atomos in case the SSD is corrupted also.

@@MYTECHREVIEW i use premiere pro, but have not yet uploaded any videos burned with the luts from my atamos. As for the pc, I'm using a Win 10 OS. I did format the ssd with the atamos and it is a new ssd, so I hope it's not corrupted, unless it's the luts I've downloaded is what you're referencing as corrupted files. Should I upload the luts to premiere pro first and see if the luts work as an overlay for footage as a test?

Yes .. Load them in Premiere and test if there is anything wrong.

Are the LUTs that you using 1D or 3D ?? Atomos does not support 1D LUT. Here is a link for the guide and on page 34 has all the information about LUT .. bit.ly/3mo6xCX

Hi, I bought a Ninja V too but when I format my ssd on ninja V and then plugged in to iMac for loading the LUT, I can't write on the ssd. Do you have an idea about this problem. Ninja's current firmware is 10.54 and Mac is Catalina. (Note: If I format the disk on Mac, ninja can't read the ssd.

Is not recognizing your LUT's. Make sure they are created as 3D LUT as the NinjaV only works with that type of LUT.

@@MYTECHREVIEW I had to put the display into play mode, then the files were visible, just a glitch. I hope people find this useful.

@@FosterMedia Thats weird because should be able to load them at all times. Now if you put it on Play mode maybe you already burned the LUT onto the footage.

@@MYTECHREVIEW Not sure. but the folder was visible, i didn't add anything, went back to record /monitor mode and then the folder was still capable. so i then opened it and loaded the luts like everyone else
