8:20 From a full time mechanic... THANK YOU sir. Most ppl bring in a total crap box and have no care in the world for cleanliness. Dont even get me started on farmers, especially hog farmers trucks... Do you have a section of flex pipe anywhere near the engine?? I didnt see one, and that could be most of your problem. If the exhaust is rigid all the way back vibrations and/or excessive engine movement from worn engine mounts can break exhaust like right now. The flex pipe soaks up that movement. Just a thought.. great job gettin er done yourself. Screw those dudes for not standing behind their work. Its places like that that give us mechanics a bad name.
I would weld it up. And run it, as a spare. That mat is nice. Can see me using that alot. That's insane I have magna flow on my chevy been on there since 96 just got my first leak. They got crappy over the years. Cheaper parts they make more money. I'm just going to weld my leak. It will probably last another 10 years. Thanks brother Richie.
You put a lot of faith in that farm jack. Had a cousin that was crushed to death by a brake drum on his chest, only takes once Richie. ALWAYS BLOCK the load.
Lisa from WA thanking you for an entertaing video. Although I know nothing about doing any of the things you showed in this video, all I can say is you have the patience of Job. I was riveted watching this. You and your truck are awsome.
I have had similar failures of down pipes cracking and breaking welds . The solution was a flexy joint that you weld into the exhaust system. You work your cruiser, it flexes a lot and gravel roads shake everything to bits . I would suggest your get a exhaust shop to install a flexy joint . I believe that was the cause of the failure. A exhaust shop should've known that because it's their job.
I’m so wanting to get away from the net and all but I keep coming back. Thanks for the follow up. I thought going through brackish water might have done it to the steel. It’s in between ocean and fresh water and it can do some damage. Like driving your car through Gatorade! So it was the mud that made it look like that. Glad you got it figured out. Sorry. Don’t know why I keep commenting. I’ll try and stop. 🙃 Happy trails, sir!
ALWAYS use Anti-Seize on exhaust nuts and bolts! Stainless as a metal can be a bit brittle depending on which stainless is used. Because of this brittleness and reluctance to be welded in the first place you need to weld a heavier bead usually requiring a double weld.
You could talk with some of the cruiser core guys they love Toyota’s. And are picky about the parts.. they also know excellent sources. We have a fj40 76, and they got me the 60 series knuckles and a bunch of other stuff. Good work Richie!
Multi coloured sockets...cool...At least you had a nice comfy driveway to lay on instead of on your back in a muddy puddle full of rocks in Timbucktoo..😊
Also make sure to clamp the down pipes to the fire wall there is a stand off support there or there will be a rattle that sounds like a out of balance drive shaft on the highway
I give you a lot of credit for wrenching your rig. I'm in Upstate NY and the winters with road salt are a bitch to wrench on the vehicle. Sometimes my mechanic has to use a torch to deal with the rust and corrosion.
I'm glad I came upon this video I was looking at the exhaust from otramm I know it's pricey but I was considering it because it seems well built and designed.
Well heres something to keep in mind, My truck is the first video on his youtube channel. And was showing off his new 80 series exhaust. within 2 years I had to totally replace the entire exhaust because it was nothing but issues pretty much documented on my instagram. He didnt back it up. so after less than 2 years I had to replace my otramm exhaust. I now have a 3in SS custom made exhaust. thats a true story.
Way to go Ritchie blasting the exhaust shop. 👍👍👍 Work quality and ethics certainly have diminished here in the US. I hope this stays together longer for you. God bless 🙏🙏
Hi Richie! Mate, i want to share with you my thoughts. First, the thing you allready know is the wrong gauge of tubing. Second, he might be used wrong electrodes. Other possible thing is that the guy is not enough experienced welder. Now, important wen welding SS is to be back purged with the shielding gas and not to be cooked with wrong welding apparatus settings. Another very important thing is that, the stainless is not well accepting high temperatures. It changes it's properties. Is it an option for you to talk with someone about other possible materials? I think that in the refineries, where a high temperature/pressure processes are taking place, the vessels involved are with flanges/fasteners made from INCONEL, INCOLOY or HASTELLOY(different grades are there) alloys. Idk is it expensive or even can you find it for free use, but may be it's worty to ask for it, someone familiar and is it suitable for the exhaust system. Any way, God bless you and take care!
I've got the magnaflow all the way back pretty happy with it only thing is you have to use oem collector gaskets or you will be for ever replacing them..to all those that try this
Just had convo bouts the catalysts tht eventually turned to catalytic converter on car which yes there is a reason why they r worth something... Maybe having to do the coil problem had and one said he could cut cat converter but would no longer be passable in registering terms .. so waited and was able to figure out was coil all along.... wether it be one trying to take whatever was or not just saying
They use to go to park and rides and steal them, lol, but yes they are worth between 20-60$ each usually they sell them for scrap, the heat and the process to get the valuable metals out is a special process.
Richie, do you get your vehicle oil sprayed? In Ohio, the rust belt, everyone oil sprays. My hubby sells aftermarket autoparts, he says oilspraying voids some cars warranties. My dad has saved alot of cars by oil spraying. There's engine cleaner spray, works great. Take care! 😀
Great minds think alike, spend time doing a job, well, once, than spend money and time twice. If something goes that can't be helped, fair enough, but not when a 'professional' is supposed to know their stuff. Good video Richie :)
Funny, that doesn't look stainless to me. I've never seen stainless so brown looking before. I'm a Flowmaster man! My Flowmaster muffler has been beat to shit out in the bush and is still going strong 10 years later with no signs of needing replacing. It's made of heavy gauge aluminized steel and sounds awesome on my Dodge! V8's for life!
Hay brother have you ever heard of Silver Lake, Michigan RU-vid it if you haven't.. Silver Lake Sand Dunes.. It's a great sandbox.. Opens April 1st and closes October 31st at a State Park. Let me know if you ever make it up this way RFB... There's some decent trail riding up here in Michigan.. Two tracking and going through the power lines.. Winter tracking is a good time to!
Great video brother. Man that's some dirty pool that guy pulled on you. He should of been thankful for the blessing he received from you helping his channel grow. The least he could of done was make it right. I just don't get ppl. I know if it was me I would have . I know word of mouth advertising is the best if you do a great job but if you crappy shady stuff like this guy did I can ruin you. Oh well it'll come back to him 10 fold. Stay blessed brother be safe .
I Fix My Exhaust and Many Other things, Since I picked Up a 50 Dollar Stick Welder off Craigslist.. I Collect Random Pipes.. I See in Tables.. and Things,.. Just to Make Custom Exhaust's, without Ever Buying a thing :D
Hey Richie great video great explanations on what you were doing you always seem to cover your bases and I really appreciate that on all your channels Toyotas rule bro but you put that much power
@@jailbreakoverlander I hear ya man. Definitely performance they are good. Off road I think other manufacturers are better. Take care brother it's definitely goin get exciting when that vaccine is finally in play.
@@jailbreakoverlander MagnaFlow mufflers do have a reputation for cracking even with enough points of support and with soft rubber insulated hangers, from a conversation 10 years ago talking to a middle-aged AutoZone employee. Here are 2 sugestions: 1. FlowMaster Pro Series standard length: 6 inch height, 6 inch width, 16 inch case length, 22 inch overall length. 3 inch in/3 inch out. 409 stianless and 16 gauge thickness. Part # 13016100 $204. 2. Flowmaster Super HP-2: 4 inch height, 5 inch width, 18 inch case length, 24 inch overall length. 2.5 inch in/2.5 inch out. 304 stianless. Up to 400 HP as in the Summit Racing discription. Dosen't mention thickness on the Flowmaster website so mabye it's thinner than 16 gauge ? Part # 12518304 $190.
Richie, If you make it to Florida, On your way back to Montana, stop in Lincoln Ne. so I can follow you to the bad lands. Please and Thank- you! Montagraph style: : BFCA 71R695L4 st.
I know I know, but replace the bolts too It takes two years off new assembly leaving two year old bolts in to secure it Brother, so all new ASAP when your in a better place and time You've heard the saying Sing Like You're In The Shower and Nobody's Listening, well hoot at the Owls like nobody is judging you God Speed and Love The Owl Vids
They didn't have there heat hot enough , and it was probably wire feed welded instead of tig welding in a small shop , these exhausts are welded at a mass production so these tig welders are forced to put out product instead of quality .
richie, how is your MAGNAFLOW exhaust fairing after a year of running it. what about your downtube. There was a comment about a flex joint welded into the downtube, what you think about this?
They must have used that cheap 304 stainless steel which is just a step above galvanized. The salt where you live in Boston from the ocean will destroy it immediately. You need the highest grade stainless steel for an exhaust system not the cheapest crap that I wouldn't even use in nails
I bet those were welded in China, or at least overseas. Quality is NOT a concern. The metallurgy for the base metal let alone the filler wire would fill the spectrum of contaminates. Not to be an armchair quarterback, but that weld on the new cat, will more than likely fail soon. The dark grey is a sure sign the shielding gas was not of adequate flow to cover the weld puddle, let alone the purity of the gas to begin with I'm sure is VERY questionable.. The few people that may have some idea of producing quality, are hindered by time constraints placed on them. And as far as stainless steel, if it is not produced in the U.S. or Germany. The term stainless is subjective. Hope this works out this time, but you told it spot on, when you said you could not give money to people to perform work or produce a product you're willing to pay for it. #wedonotconsent. Marion.
i dunno if stainless is really all its cracked up to be? You might be better off with a well built aluminized steal system. maybe delete that cat? free up some power n keep the heat down.
