Thanks everyone for watching. What do you think about this rear leaf spring upgrade? Do you have a better setup you prefer?

I almost forgot about that lifted rear leaf spring setup from back in the day. Very common in the early 80s. Very nostalgic. This new setup though is gonna be badass. I know you're "budget build garage", but glad you're big spending on suspension and brakes.

The Mustang is definitely getting more money put into it than the Elco but It isn't as crazy as it could be. I do think its going to be a really well rounded car. It should be a ton of fun!

If you were going to spend a little more would you get the Del-A-Lum bushings? If not why? I only ask because I'm trying to build a "budget" "all rounder" (street, strip, track) Cougar.

Gents, your video was very useful. It took me more than the 22 minutes of your video but I wouldn't have completed my task without your video and advice. Thanks

Thanks for the video, very informative. What was the brand of those springs? I need to replace mine on a 73 Cougar Conv. Definitely liked the drop...

Sits perfect for a transam racer if you swell fenders and use trans am wheels. I have a 70 maverick with 5 normal leaves and 3 more just on front for wheels up launches without bars. I use 15x10 centerlines and 10.5 x 28 slicks without scrub but jacked up a couple inches. Im using 3 5/16 backspace with narrowed strange housing. Runs 7.01 in 1/8th on 100 octane nat asp.

I enjoyed the video. I appreciate it. I am creating my build list from the parts you are using. Do yall have an open rear end? Will you be going to some sort of traction lock? Leaving the rear drum brakes?
@BudgetBuildGarage
@BudgetBuildGarage 6 лет назад
Glad you liked it! It does have an open rear end right now but I will do some sort of locker and then I'll put disc brakes on it.

Great vid, very helpful. Im in the market for lowered rear leaf springs, for a 3 inch drop in my 57 chevy. However, i see various options in leafs, and makes. Anybody have suggestions?

When you lower the ride height that much, can you use a gas shock spec'd for a standard ride height? For example the stock replacement shock is a KYB 343219. If I went with a lowered spring would it be too prone to bottom out?

Can I do your front brake upgrade and use standard rotors and maybe keep my not so old but original style master. My front brakes get too hot and nearly fail after a pass. My car is nearly twin of yours

Could u use lowering springs on a 05 mustang WITH leaf springs? Or would I add a panhard bar or is it useless?

When you set a stand under your car pan please always use a wider board to transfer the weight more widely. Otherwise you will have dents in the floor from the weight of your car on the tiny top of the jack stand. Good job. Good video. Also, If you cut away the rim of your wheel well or trim the quarter you will lose your integrity on the quarter panel itself. Never, never cut these. Bend them if you must, but be very careful. You can easily damage it to where you will never get it back to factory perfect. The best choice is to just get wheels with a narrower inner measurement size. But I get it, I had this problem with 50 series tires on my Mach 1 back when I was 20. I tore up the tires a bit on the sidewalls. Ruined a perfectly good set of tires. And when air shocks decided to leak down the tires would be engraved into the quarters holding up the car.

I bought the CJpony made in India leaf springs...any comments? I listened a second.time and heard you say something about not lasting long and going flat...any thoughts?

I haven't personally used those. How many miles have you put on them and what do you think about them so far?

I just finished a couple of days ago...have yet to take the car out..But, I did notice that I took a five leaf out and replaced it with a four leaf. prolly not a great decision on my part.
@BudgetBuildGarage
@BudgetBuildGarage 6 лет назад
@@spignetti No matter what you will feel a big difference from the old worn out springs. Some of it will come down to preference. I know a couple people that swear by the 4's.

I've redone the front suspension and finished the rear. I still have this incredible low speed knocking under the car. Something. I can't figure it out..I been thru it for sure.....I thought it was the old coil springs so I replaced everything...Sill, it knocks at low speed and in low speed turning....Maybe it's something I gotta deal with. I'll keep in touch, let you know how it rides....Great vid btw....Im a subscriber.

@@spignetti Sounds like a fun project. Keep me posted. Does the noise change with speed or rpm?

What size rims/ tires are those? I'm trying to get fatter tires in the back, smaller in the front for a mean stance

Really enjoy your videos guys! My driver side rear end really sags, the car is lopsided when seen from the back. Do you think all it needs are new leaf springs? I've still got the originals from 66.

I thought you were supposed to count the turns when putting on U bolts so they are as evenly on as possible…

Does anyone know if it’s a good idea to put a 4.11 gear ratio in 289 mustang ?
@b67fstb
@b67fstb 5 лет назад
You should not use lowering blocks as it will ruin your leaf springs. And whats the point by using them if you mount springs with reverse eye. Just saying.

let me tell ya...I've got the 70 mustang where I changed the u bolts out with new ones...THEY Wouldn't FIT thru the steel plate. they were spread apart about a quarter of an inch..no matter what I did....they would not fit!! what a drag...I had to notch out the steal plate that fits under the leaf spring for it to fit....after I figured out what would work, it took minutes to resolve the problem instead of hours.... Most of the bolts I cut out. Im too lazy to use brute strength. Even the rear shackle was nicely cut with a cutting disk on an angle grinder...a four dollar investment ..enough with the muscling ….done and done....

Sometimes cutting or even torching off old parts really is the easiest or even the only way.
