Hey guys, new update as of today 04/28. This one moves the app folder to apps main menu and improves PSP performance. Also, my Boxart Tutorial is LIVE. Watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5CX_tGCEM64.htmlsi=Eiwe4LmDKfzvrArA
I am currently doing the update for the new version but it doesnt seem that a BIO folder exists... did they hide it somewhere else or do i need to put my own BIOs in?
@garrettgraham7875 I believe its still there but for some reason theyve hid it in the linux partition. When you go to launch a game youll see the bios. Give it a try
@@JaviPlayRetro currently downloading the 93 GB “DONE” rom file package. I’ll report back when that downloads. The software is working though and my second SD card got the files added after first boot
Man this was super helpful. I'd say you made this idiot proof as I had never manually upgraded firmware from a download file online before. You made this extremely simple and I greatly appreciate it
It's funny I've spent all day trying to find a solution to accidentally breaking my controls in ppsspp. 23 minutes later and you upload this. This is my only option now and this is exactly what I needed. I'm going to order a card reader and SD card and start the process now. Thanks you so much.
i put all my games on my sd card but I don't have the images , the box art how can I add it? does it work copyng from the sd card that comes with the device into the new sd card?
THANK YOU THANK YOU. I jumped headfirst into ordering one of these with next to no knowledge on all the logistics that were to come, tried reading my way to figuring it out and just ended up more confused. You have made this so simple and easy to do, thank you.
Thanks so much for the guide man ! My 35xx Plus came with a bricked SD card (boot stuck on the ambernic logo), but i was able to fix it by installing the OS on a brand new SD card thanks to your video! Much love
Thanks for that. Just picked up an RG355XX + and wanted to upgrade the SD card and add a second for more storage. Worked first time, which is usually difficult achievement for a man of my stature.
THANK YOU so much for this step by step instruction. My device arrived today and whilst it had no issues I was aware of the potential bad sd card. Yours is the only tutorial I could easily follow and actually worked. KUDOS my friend. Liked and subscribed 👍
I really appreciate you putting the boot time on screen. Most videos I watched so far just say it'll take a few minutes and leave you freaking out thinking you did something wrong
Hello @JaviPlayRetro Thanks for that very clear and well explained video ! You deserved awards and gifts from Anbernic ! Your explaination helped many lost guys like me !
okay today everything has arrived and i was done with it in 10 minutes, i made 1 mistake when installing the partition manager i got baited in the free trial normal version where i can't apply the format on the sd card and realized the demo is not the free version. but everythingelse was fast and easy, thank you again.
thank you so much for this!! I had no idea what I was doing and looked everywhere for a decent guide/instructions as I received mine not working but you honestly made it super clear and simple!
i just bought a anbernic rg35xx plus this week, arrived yesterday and now i have the stuck on booting screen, saw your other video now i'm here and bought everything to do this, i really hope this will work. kinda depressing buying something and it's giving headaches after a day lol
@@JaviPlayRetro i will update you when everything has arrived, i have one more question when u insert your 2nd SD card, i'm a bit confused, there are the same folders now? i wanted to do a dual setup with the system on the first and games on 2nd, and until now i thought i just copy the stuff from tiny best set just there but now idk xd do i need the stuff i installed on the first one there also?
Thank you for an easy to follow tutorial. My unit arrived with a rubbish stock sd card. In an hour or so I was able to replace it with one card for the OS and one for my Roms. Easy as! Thanks again
Cleanest install tutorial out there for the rgxxH, been through a few videos and all they do is blabber and make a mess of things lol! Thank you so much, going to go with 2 card setup since my xxH came with only 1 card which I'll throw away asap I buy branded sds today! 🔥
I followed your steps but when I boot it up with both MicroSD cards put in, I don't see the 2nd Sd like you do when you went into the "Game Room." Did I do something wrong? It's 128GB
@@JaviPlayRetroso my games all loaded and I can see and play them. But the option to select between the 2 microsd cards don’t show up? 🤷🏻♂️ think it’s a big deal? lol
@Johnniibeanasmr i think you're on the new update. Anbernic removed the apps section in the first sd card on the new update. That's why you dont see it.
@Johnniibeanasmr On one hand its better because its just one less screen between you and your games. On the other hand you dont have the apps folder that has some handy features.
good stuff Javi! keep it up! im waiting for someone to show me how to update with one micro sd card, i did it when i first got my device with a 128gb card
Can you Please add the Box ART tutorial!!! That would be greatly appreciated, thank you for the helpful video, I originally missed the MS vs SMS folder naming!
If anyone wants to change the boot logo its easy to do. Open in Mini tool partition Magic. You will see a 122 Mb fat16 parition. Unhide this you will see a bootlogo.bmp image there. Replace it and rehide the partition
I’ve installed the latest firmware 1.1.5 to a single SD card and notice there’s 45 unallocated space which I can’t use to extend the main partition. The flashed main partition is empty and it’s already 1.9 GB free space with is not enough. Is it really unusable and I should’ve just but another SD card to put all of my games it is there a workaround where I can just use single SD card? Update: Just realize there's a disclaimer in Anbernic's Firmware Download page about it does impossible to extend the partition. Guess I might just buy a dedicated 16GB card then
I get an "image file not supported by Rufus" once i try to add the image file. I extracted everything and moved the image file to the desktop. My computer does not recognize it as an image file (not sure why, as the file extension checks out.) Was not visible until i clicked show all files. Grabbed the image file and got that error. Am i getting a bad firmware download? There are quite a few to choose from on the anbernic site, i did my best to use your info given as im trying this for the rg35xx+. I chose the top link. Also... when i extracted the file, i am missing the .rar file. Either way, i somewhat understand this... but before i progress, it looks like im stuck w the POS stock micro SD card that came with my unit for now. Followed your video verbatim. Watching this video on my phone and backing it up to be sure i didn't miss a step while performing said tasks at my pc. Clearly, something is missing. I would appreciate any advice to solve this issue. Honestly, I'd rather just pay someone to load up a few branded micro SD cards with the OS and Roms on it. I wonder why anbernic doesn't offer that service... they're already doing it on cheap non branded cards. Just upsell the service to novice computer users such as myself. It doesn't appear to be difficult... but i get stuck when said files do not work once extracted. Makes no sense...
I tried this but it didn't work for me. It took around 10 hours to flash the new firmware image to the new SD card (fornatted to FAT32) then when it eventually finished I put it in the device (along with the second card) and powered it on and all I got was a blank screen.
the flashing speed depends on what speed sd card you have and what type of sd card reader you have. If you have a usb 3.0 sd card reader, flashing (and transferring files in general) will be faster, but if you have a usb 2.0 sd card reader it will be slower.
I recently bought a RG35xx+ and im wondering what you would recommend. The stock OS or Batocera lite. Checked the Github page and since Feb there is not much movment. As my unit still needs to be delivered and im fairly new to this handheld stuff, if was wondering if you have a preference. Oh and one more thing. Are there any restrictions regarding that SD Card, i mean size wise? Can you also go with a 512GB SD? Will defenitly have to change the OS or reinstalll it as my unit is from Geekbuying, so im pretty sure there will be chinese involed in the names :D
This mean you got the 64GB image. You want the 16GB image. Unless you really want to do a single card setup. In which case select all those file and extract them with 7zip at the same time to make one big image. Then flash that image with rufus
@@JaviPlayRetro i appreciate the help. I used the link that I was emailed by anbernic. I followed your instructions for the two card system but using two 64 g SD cards and it's working great. Thanks for the help man. Your video really was the only way I was able to figure this out. 💯
Hello Javi, great video, it helped a lot. However, I have a problem, I have an rg35xx PLUS, I downloaded the 16gb file and did everything as you said, but on the first SD card there is neither the .config file nor the bios file. Consequently, the coremapping.json note does not exist. What could I be doing wrong?
Thank you for your tutorial, I followed the procedure with a 64 gigabyte card, it was worked but it transformed my SD card into a 4 GB card... I tried with another 64 GB card and that also transformed it into 4 GB 😮 so I don't have room to add more lot games because there is just 3 Go, because I just installed the version with the software, there is no games, do you know how I could fix the problem please ?
I need help, so I downloaded the 16gb file, idc for the Roms, I flashed it onto a single 64gb sd card, when I go to put Roms onto it I can’t as it’s shrunk my sd card to 4.19gb is there a way I can get it back to 64gb?
You need 2 micro sd cards. This is a 2 card setup. If you only have one card, you'll have to download the 64GB version with the games and delete all the games after flashing
@@JaviPlayRetro This is incorrect. Single card setup works fine with the 16 GB image. If OP plugs the card into PC and opens Mini Tool Partition magic they will see the 4.19 GB partition as well as a 45 GB unallocated space. OP needs to format this unallocated space to exFat and add create a drive letter. Once done Plug the card into the console and reboot console once. Upon reboot the console will create the folders in the new 45Gb partition. OP can them plug the card back into PC and will see Roms folder in the 45 GB partition. This is where Op can add the games.
Bit confused. Why download the 16Gb file? 1: Why does the console have 2x SD slots and what are their purposes. 2: If the 64Gb card in internal slot is loaded almost full with files what am I doing downloading 16Gb of files onto it? (the card to the right (external) is 128gb. I tried for hours on a mac to download (v1.1.3 64Gb zip file) then unzipped it but it didn't become a disc image so now trying to convert it in disc utility but I don't really know what I'm doing. The first time I unzipped it and dragged it directly to the old card but now erased / reformatted but same thing happened it just hung on the logo screen. This sort of stuff confuses and annoys the hell out of me. Just wanted my mum to bring a gift over for my son and starting to regret buying this. ffs. Getting even more confused when you say now just download the games into such and such sd card. argggh. I hate shit like this makes no sense to me!!!!! Just tried again. This time downloaded the 16Gb file as a zip, unzipped it then converted it to a disk image. Then tried to restore it to a fresh formatted sd card showing just over 62Gb, would not restore so dragged and dropped it to the card but console would not even turn on. Last time i dragged and dropped the larger file and console fired up but still stuck on logo. I got It working using a mac and reflashed the 64gb left side "internal" card. I downloaded the 64Gb file then i Unzipped it with "The Unarchiver" Then the part that caught me out was to then open the unzipped folder and find another zip folder inside. Unzip the 2nd zipped folder Then it will transform into a disc image file. Use "Balena Etcher" Select the file to flash "The recently created disc image" Then make sure your sd card is erased and fat32 formatted (I used disk utility). Then select the sd card as a destination. Takes some time but works. you may have to try a few times and hit the reset button. (wait some time 30 secs or so for the bootup).
Can i copy all my pre installed sd card games into my new sd card? the sd card that comes with the console, can I copy and paste all games to my new one???? or I need to download all new rooms I wanna know if that's safe or not thanks
Im using one sd 64 g card and i have no issues. Unless you want all games from all systems to clog up your cards and game lists then yah maybe u need two cards. I like having only my best games from each system...and for that, one is more than enough
That's fine and plenty of roms for most people but it's still beneficial to use two cards because if there's another firmware update in future you can flash it to the card without interfering with your second card which contains all your roms and saves.
So I’ve followed the instructions, I have at 64gb memory card, when I download the stock os on the card it’s only using 4gb of it. It’s saying there’s 45gb of unallocated space, any suggestions on how to fix this?
Easy. Use MiniTool Partition to format the unallocated space to exFat and make sure it adds a drive letter. Plug the card into your console. Start it up and do one reboot (reboot not shutdown). Upon rebooting it will create the folders necessary in the new 45GB partition. Plug the card back into pc and you will see the roms folder in the new partition. Put your games here. Done.
Amazing video :). My console is coming and this came out at the perfect time. I have one question: can I use a 64gb sd card for the OS? I only have 64 and 128 sd cards...
very helpful but i do have one question - when preparing the 2nd sd card, you format the whole thing for FAT32 and leave the partition empty, but then, when you open it up on your PC during step 6, it shows similar directory structure to SD card 1. Is there something I am missing?
Does the bios folder only create itself after the SD card is inserted into the system and booted for the first time? I haven't got my device yet, I'm just preparing everything for when I do get it. I just flashed the stock OS onto the first SD card and there is no bios folder. Just wanted to make sure. Thank you for the video!
Hi Just a question. Is it possible to change the OS using a smartphone (Android) ? I have no PC and I’d like to put Batocera on my RG35XX-H but I don’t know how to do or even if it’s possible. Thank you 😘
im wondering why anbernick does not make a pretty and easy firmware... also I am wondering if batocera is a better option? i just bought this handheld and idk what to do
@@joelgrebinsilvestri , Personally i would down load the stock OS and use that it's the better performance overall , Batocera is good and pretty bit anything over PS1 just isn't there performance wise yet IMO .
hey man... so I have had mine for maybe 2 months. it will start up, show the anbernic logo, then it just goes black. when i hit the power button itll flash to the menu where you select games etc... then just goes back black again... almost like its getting put back into sleep mode. any Idea what could be causing this or how to fix? I feel like something might just be messed up with the power button. but not sure.
Hi Javi, maybe you can help! I download the firmware for my RG35xx+ and I can't seem to figure out how to find the IMG file. my file types only show "001 File, 002File, etc..." I don't see a RAR file even when I extract the file I downloaded. Please help.
Thank you for this guide ! Quick question: I already have games on my Stock card (with saves) so I should not need Tiny best set right ? If I understood corectly, I just have to copy/paste my ROM and Save folder somewhere on my PC before updating the Firmware, then when the 1st booting is done, I just have to drag&drop these folders back on the SD card ? As simple as that ??
Now I do appreciate you trying to help the community. You really shouldn't use the stock image off of Anbernic, highly suggest looking modded stock images instead. Also, there is no need to format the SD card that you will use Rufus on. The imaging process does this for you. Your process is right for the 2nd card, but use exFAT over FAT. As some, if not most likely will use bigger then 64gb card for ext storage. Highly recommend looking at modded stock images.
For simplicity and as per manual instructions I went with FAT32 for TF2. Also I considered making this video too but I know not everyone wants a modded stock OS. I will see if I create another video about that modded version.
@PauloSantos-yc2fx exfat doesnt have a size limit and can read and written to from all systems like mac windows and android. FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB
@NicksMind21 You can use both. It just doesn't say anything about it in the manual. I try to follow what Anbernic says. It is their software, after all.
Hello! i have followed the steps twice but no matter what I do, the second SD card is not showing on my RG3xx H, any ideas on what may be happening? Thanks in advance for any help
I'm currently running an older version of the stock firmware (20231221) with 2x SD cards. Do I still need to do the process for the 2nd SD card, wipe all games, just to recopy them back on? Or can I just do the firmware update on SD1 and leave SD2 in there? Thanks.
Hi! I did not see commodore 64 files/folders during the install in the video. Could you tell me how can I install C64 games onto my rg35xx plus with this new stock os? Thank you!
My RG35XX Plus's original SD card wasn't working upon arrival. Just got stuck on the Anbernic logo screen at boot. I ordered 64Gb and 128GB SanDisk SD cards. Can I follow this tutorial and install the 16GB stock OS on the 64GB and use the 128GB for games? I understand that the rest of the space on the 64GB won't be accessible - but will it still work?
Worked fine (bar not being able to read the original stock mem stick and having to find bios elsewhere) but now the analog sticks seem to be disabled for general use on the console and all the games. How do I fix that? I don't want to only be able to use the D-pad and the sticks worked fine before..
after i flashed the OS i put it in the RG35XXH and there is nothing showing on screen, just light turning on.. does anyone know how to fix or Javi can you help?
I'm currently following the video, it's really easy to understand and follow but I still have a problem at some point. When I tried to put back my first sd card to see the bios folder, my computer does not show the R: StockOS =/ I'm going to erase it once more and try again but it's strange. Maybe I need to try with another OS since I they added a lot more of them instead of the 2 you're showing in the video.
I'm trying to find a way to do this for the RG35XX SP. Would this same exact method work for the SP? That way I can start downloading roms and have the OS downloaded already. So I can start setting up to play. I've heard it's best not to keep the SD card they give you.
Can i use a single sd setup with this tutorial? I have a 128gb sd. Also like you said in the older tutorial do i still need to resize or extend the partitions for it to go over 64gb? I'm planning to use the normal up to date stock OS
update from 13 days ago. I have got new OS to work, but the files from the 16gb Download dont match. There are no bio or config files. Also the ROM files are empty. One observation, when i run Rufus, it changes the name of the SD card and it reverts to a D type, which means it doesn't show in the windows file tree. Is there a difference between an old style SD adapter and a USB adapter, Im grasping at straws now :( UPDATE: this issue could be related to Rufus being a USB tool rather than accepting an old style SD converter. I'll try again. UPDATE: no change sadly, the RUFUS tool changes the name and the drive type once its done with the image file and there are no bio or config files.
Hey man, good video.. but can you help me with my device... im purchasing the new version of RG35xx, i believe they call it RG35xx 2024 model or RG35XX+ (not RG35XX Plus but RG35XX+).. i cant find it on the anbernic website for firmware... which one i should choose?
Great tutorial, I did it step by step and was successful. Would you happen to know off other sites where I can get good, working ROMs like the one you suggested. I tried installing a few PS1 and PSP games but they don't start up for me. Any information would be appreciated.
When I image a 128GB SD card with the 16GB image I end up with only 4GB of space and cannot expand the partition. Also no matter what I do I cannot ever get my device to recognize the SD card in slot 2. I've tried all different sizes and brand cards.
hey mate i have a problem, i did all of these and when i checked This PC, the sd is only 1gb free out of 45 gb, but when i looked at the bios file, its empty
Thank you very much for this. I foolishly flashed my card with garlic os not knowing that it deletes everything on the card so I lost my saves and everything and to top it all off my rg35xx h didn’t boot with garlic os anyways. Very frustrating
Hi, great guide thanks. New user here who understands the basics of Retroarch on PC. Anyone know why Autosave State and Autoload State won't work on my RG35XX H?
