I just converted my grandsons pull wagon, with a 1/2 axle to 5/8 to accept harbor freight wheels. I used two 1/2 to 5/8 steel bushings. Each bushing is 1 inch long, for a total of 2 inches. 8 total for the wagon. They fit tight and look good.
Just mark the plastic bushing where the hole is on the hub, Drill it out larger than the zerk threads, Line the hole up with the threaded hole on the hub insert the zert, it will now screw down and you will be able to grease the axil as needed.
Could have re used the original bushings, the bushing has a flat side so the grease zerk will fit, Also they are usually steel, the new ones are plastic.
Just got finished replacing tires and rims I bought at harbor freight for $5 each. Hardest thing to do was removing the push nut! After removing the old tire and rim I used a little wd40 to make the assembly easy.One tire was a little out of being true. But after all they say “Not for highway use” on the side. Chuckle
Thanks for the illustration.I am changing my wheels but have a 3/4 axle and th replacement wheels are 5/8.However, I am having difficulty in locating a vendor for the adaptors you used.You mentioned Lowes but I am in Canada and Lowes here do not appear to stock them. Any suggestions?
Yes, it is. He showed how to swap it for 3/4. The ones I bought at HarborFreight today have BOTH 5/8 and 3/4 bearings, rather than just the plastic bushings shown above. Knock out the one you don't need and install the one you do. They also came with other plastic shims for other off-size axles that are 1/16 smaller than the two sets of bearings. $28 each (4.80/4.00-8, 15.5-inch diameter tires). The 3/4 "shims" also work as spacers inside and outside the wheel hub, making it tighter between the cart and the washer held by the cotter pin.
